Re: SF Board Draft 2025 PICKS ONLY - 2.57 - PIT - B2B (from CAR) -

Whew. That's a couple of big bombshells. I will say that, in previous years guys I traded (some surprisingly) tended to get moved. I traded Faneca before he was unexpectedly waived. I traded Claypool or DJ-- forget which... anyway, if I'm thinking it, seems like they're thinking it. We'll see.

Anyway... back to the draft.

The Steelers went from having no 2nd round pick to having 2 2nd round picks. We already replaced Broderick with a bigger and more position-flexible/more ready-to-play OL. Just because we got a 2nd for Pickens doesn't mean we have to spend a 2nd to replace him. But.

One thing I've learned in 20+ years of doing this is: if a prospect is REALLY important to you AND you think he's special AND he fits a need... throw out the rankings and worrying about "will he be available later. This isn't the 1970s, where you could legit keep a John Stallworth secret and stash him for later rounds. So, sue me if you think this is early. I don't and I'll tell you why.

Pickens and Metcalf were pretty similar style players, so my goal is not to replicate Pickens, on or off the field.

This prospect used to be a QB (as so many prospects in this class seem to have been--maybe that's why there are so few great QBs in this class!), and most people get hung up on his versatility and can't see past it. Yes, he's a multitool that it's impossible not to think would be like manna from heaven to the dope OC for the Steelers. He is a great runner on end around or taking handoffs, or running wildcat... yes, that's true. But here's what else:

An above average contested ball ability, very good feet he uses to get great releases from the LOS for slants and deep balls, ability to go get the ball with good tracking skills and snatching it away from his body. Add in outlier size/speed and it's a nice package. In fact, he is better at catching the Red Zone fade/jump ball/slant combo than GP, who I think is special at it. But the BEST part BY FAR of his toolbox is that he is, bar none, the best open field runner in the class at any position. And he's not just elusive. he's big, has great contact balance, and it requires a team effort to chase and bring him down.

For a team that needs run and screen touches to make the HC & OC happy, needs a deep threat opposite Metcalf, and needs explosive plays on run and catch beyond the point of desperation (they have basically nothing like that), this is too good a prospect and too good a fit to pass up.

With the 57th pick in the SteelerFury Mock Draft, the Pittsburgjh Steelers select:

The Chiefs still aren't happy with their pass rushing situation and there's a guy on the board who happens be a freak...a Bruce Feldman freak, to be exact. We envision him playing more DE but also a guy who can rush from the interior and help create havoc.

The Kansas City Chiefs select Jordan Burch, EDGE, Oregon.

The Chiefs see a guy on the board by all means is an outstanding player. It’s not huge need, but after getting burned by the Eagles receivers in the Super Bowl, we realize this player is too good to pass up as he was once regarded as a top player in this draft class.

The Kansas City Chiefs select Benjamin Morrison, CB, Notre Dame.

The SteelerFury Steelers continue to believe in not just rebuilding or adding to the tranches but in making our group of big men a surplus of riches––look at Philadelphia and know that that's our target.

Big guys who can move are all the rage and it's important to remember that they are rarities.

This player has a ridiculous story, most of you probably don't know. He didn't play High School ball... his foster mother was so scared of it that she refused to give him permission to play... so he became a basketball kid, even though his brother was a D1 football player of note. He graduated HS and spent a year away from sports. Then there was a reuniting with his non-foster family, and suddenly he realized he could be allowed to play. His brother took him to see a local Juco football coach, who said he'd take him and teach him he game.

So, up to age 18, no weight training regimen, no reps in football.

They started him at DT, like his brother had played, but after seeing him get more comfortable with the game, he moved to OT. He played in a handful of games, and suddenly had a couple of low division CFB offers. He decided to go back, and after the first few games starting in his year 2 of Juco, he began dominating and got offers from all over, including one from his Hometown Cal Bears he turned down in favor of going to the team where his bother had been a big contributor. Thye installed in the next year as a starting tackle, protecting a stud QB.

It was a disaster. Several games of barely hanging on vs the jump up in LOC were punctuated by a future NFL 1st round pick absolutely destroying him. Like one of the all-time ass whippings ever to take place on a football field. PFF ranked him the worst OT in CFB. He easily could have given up or switched positions. But he did not.

He devoting himself to learning from his weaknesses and mistakes and this year he came out like a different player. He was so dominant that he finished 6th in the OT class in least pressures allowed per pass. In his 3rd full year at the position and 4th year in football of any kind, he went from being one of the worst OTs in CFB last year to being one of the best. I can't say if that predicts he will make the same kind of jump and be on the Jordam Mailata track, but we're taking the chance on a rare developmental prospect who shined at the Shrine Bowl and seems poised for NFL success.

With the 83rd pick in the SteelerFury Mock Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select:

Esa Pole, OT, Washington State

With the 85th pick in the 2025 Steeler Fury Mock Draft, the Denver Broncos select…

Image

Terrance Ferguson, TE, Oregon...

A homecoming for one of a few Colorado Kids in this draft, and a homecoming that lands him with a few familiar faces in Bo Nix, Troy Franklin, and Alex Forsyth. Denver scouts were spotted at no fewer than three Oregon bouts this season, and I believe Ferguson is one of a few possible key targets. After adding Engram to the fold on a two year deal, the Broncos are by no means done with a rebuilding of a sub-standard TE room - Ferguson brings some swag, some familiarity, and a complementary skillset. Welcome to the Denver Ducks, Terrance!

1.20 - Jihaad Campbell, LB, Alabama
2.51 - Kaleb Johnson, RB, Iowa
3.85 - Terrance Ferguson, TE, Oregon
4.122 - TBD
6.191 - TBD
6.197 - TBD
6.208 - TBD

Players OTB: G Ben Powers, ILB Alex Singleton, S PJ Locke, RB Jaleel McLaughlin
