I'd hope Brady and Belicheat never get voted into the HOF because of this....of course they're both going in first ballot, but really what would they be without cheating? Good, very good even....but HOF good?

From BSPN

The Pats have been very systematic in their cheating efforts and Eric Mangini detailed a lot of it after he got fired. He didn't want BB doing the same thing to his Jets team and that's how the first round of Spygate was launched. Did you not wonder why all of the BB assistants sucked once they left the organization ?
Those coaches spent untold hours learning from the Master, but once on their own, they couldn't replicate his success.. likely because they didn't cheat. Compare that to the Bill Walsh coaching tree and you'll note the stark difference - several Walsh assistants went on to win several Titles, BB assistants did not

The most important thing BB learned from Ernie Adams was how the Wall Street guys handled the various rules and regs from the SEC. Ernie taught Bill how they would do the math to determine if the cheating was worth it. What are the chances of success, what is the reward, what are the potential penalties and is this specific case worth the risk incurred ?

For example: If you have a 90 % chance of making a billion in profit by bending the rules ( insider info) then you weigh that against the chances of getting caught, say 33% and the ensuing fines, say $100 million. Plug all of that into the equation and you can decide if its worth the risk

In the case of the NFL, the league is pretty toothless on these infractions. Who wouldn't trade a SB win for a measly draft pick or some meaningless fine ?
The NFL also has to manage the integrity of the game, so while they do want to punish the cheaters, they are happy to bury evidence when it suits the greater goal - making money and keeping the public confidence in the NFL high:

"Goodell tried to assuage his bosses: He ordered the destruction of the tapes and notes, he insisted, so they couldn't be exploited again. Many in the room didn't believe it. And some would conclude it was as if Goodell, Kraft and Belichick had acted like partners, complicit in trying to sweep the scandal's details under the rug while the rest of the league was left wondering how much glory the Patriots' cheating had cost their teams. "Goodell didn't want anybody to know that his gold franchise had won Super Bowls by cheating," a senior executive said. "If that gets out, that hurts your business."

As far as the naive question of "what would they gain ? " - too many are discounting the value of filming from the lip- reading POV.
Why do all coaches try to hide their mouths when they are making offensive/defensive calls ? Why do they all hide behind their call sheets ?

Because they know the video is rolling. IF there was no value in the video, then why does the league forbid it ?

Lots of conversations are going on and any info gleaned is quite useful when combined with the other collected data in terms of helping to win games.
Don't think of the illegal video in isolation, think of it as one critical part of the overall puzzle.

Yes, the bengals are 1-12, but they are also next weeks' opponent AND those coaches are likley to show up elsewhere over time. If you're building a dossier like the Pats have, it matters not what the current record is - what matters is having a full set of info on everybody.
Brady even let it slip one time when talking about Aaron Rodgers:

"Tom Brady once told an NFL coach, if Aaron Rodgers had Patriots' institutional knowledge on opposing defenses,
"He'd throw for 7,000 yards every year. He's so much more talented than me."

Its really a damn shame imo.
Instead of being the greatest coach/dynasty in NFL history, all of their accomplishments are forever stained because Bill and Ernie took it too far.

TL/DR:
The Kraft / Belichick Pats are serial cheaters... and they know the anemic penalties will pale in comparison to the glory of another Title.
So they keep on doing it. "Film" at 11

https://www.espn.com/espn/otl/story/_/i ... iots-apart
This isn't new or limited to the NFL or the SEC. Just look at BP and the deepwater horizon disaster. It's part of business.

We need to stop blaming Goodell for sweeping this shit under the rug. 31 owners have let these fuckers off scandal after scandal. If they banded together justice would be served. Amazing what a sorry bunch of pussies these owners are.

There needs to be sanctions of some sort because fines are seen as the cost of doing business. Take away playoff eligibility, revoke a Lombardi or two, or take away several draft picks. Just do something that will end NE's philosophical or inherent desire to cheat. 31 owners must have courage or it will never stop.

The only way that team stops cheating is ban from post season play or belicheay suspension

The Patriots have admitted that their production crew “inappropriately filmed the field from the press box,” but the team insists that the violation was unintentional and that there was no intention to use the footage for any purpose other than the “Do Your Job” item on the duties of an advance scout.

Not even an article on nfl.com now a out NE and their bullshit.

I really hope whoever needs to be pissed (Bengals org, NFL, fans, whomever) has had enough to the point where this doesn’t just go away.

If nothing is done about this I may be just about done with this game. I’ve lost so much love for this game over the last decade, this just might be it for me. So weird to even type that.

I would love to know if the "scout team" needed B roll footage from every week. That would tell quite a bit of the story.
That's the first thing I thought of. Have they done this with all their opponents? Or maybe their scout team members are doing a shitty job in stealing or deciphering signals, thus explaining the hiccup in their success. But the bengals have only won one game. One. Over 14 weeks.

"didn't know league rules". That's not acceptable.

If I hire a DJ at a venue and that facility has rules he can't play past midnight I'm surely going to rely that CRUCIAL info to my DJ. Especially since I've been fined heavily for letting my DJ play past midnight previously.

Kraft (Heinz), pickle, and considering his former pickle trouble, well done sir.

I’ve thought about the “why” of this cheating on two levels. Why do it? I guess they deem the minor edges add up, and they—-Kraft, Belicheck, and Ernie are sociopaths and just can’t help it.

Why let it go on? It’s gone on so long(decades) that the original reasons to let it go have been forgotten and it would be too embarrassing to blow the whistle now.

Dozens of seasons let alone games, Super Bowls and records would have to be vacated. The nfl wouldn’t survive.
The corrupt officiating alone would sink it. “If a Brady pass was caught in the end zone by an official would it count as only six points?”tm

I have to come clean, guys. I was the producer of the Pats "Do Your Job" video. I confess I had the videographer film the Bengals sideline because the opportunity to get the Patriots in trouble was too enticing.

I told the camera operator exactly what to say when he was caught. Needless to say, I'm pretty proud of myself for creating the distracting shitstorm, but it'll be even sweeter when they lose a draft pick or something.

Goodell rode the wave, but ultimately he's presiding over the downfall of the league. And for that the schmuck gets $40M per year!

That's more than probably all but a handfull of Fortune 500 CEO's (that weren't founders)...yet, with around $9B in revenues the NFL isn't even in the Fortune 500. He was making about $10M per year and everyone laughed when it was rumored he was demanding $50M. A conspiracy theorist might think Goodell's salary is a payoff.

Clown Boy has made some statements

https://www.masslive.com/patriots/2019/ ... pline.html

FOXBOROUGH — Though the NFL reportedly believes the Patriots’ explanation for filming the Bengals sideline last Sunday, Roger Goodell could still come down hard on them.

Speaking to reporters at the owners meetings in Dallas, the commissioner acknowledged the NFL would be weighing New England’s history in the discipline.

“Of course that’s a factor," Goodell said. "But the most important information is the new information.”

The Patriots have faced discipline twice in the Bill Belichick era for SpyGate in 2007 and 2014′s DeflateGate. Don’t expect a resolution to come quickly though.

“Obviously it’s under review,” Goodell said. "We’re gonna be thorough, and take our time.”

I don't know how you can believe their explanation, especially given the similarities in excuse/explanation detailed in that other article. You don't accidentally or unintentionally set-up a fixed camera with a perfect shot of the coaches on the sideline, and film an entire quarter.

Someone else probably called it. You can't come down all that hard and it has to be minimized, otherwise the integrity of the game/league is at stake. I think the owners need to tell Kraft that Belicheat needs to "retire", or they're going to force him to sell the team.

And on that note, I want NE in the divisional round.

If NE goes on a playoff run, and the league either hasn't taken action or merely slapped them on the wrist, this cheating will become a bigger and bigger national story. So I'm betting the league will order the refs to make sure NE Is one-and-done.

Actually, if they screw 'em against CIN and then against BUF, then NE ends-up a wildcard.
