Kevin Greene is a FA

Jets did not keep him in staff. Tomlin and the Steelers need to bring him in and add him to the staff.

I agree, if he wants to be here the Steelers should find a way to make it happen. Money shouldn't be an object when this team is searching for a way to get #7. This franchise needs to get aggressive and not be passive like they normally are in the offseason.

He's been let go by GB & NY...not a good track record for a "must have" guy.

I don't understand the infatuation for the guy as a coach.

Nothing real suspicious to me. Greene's 'Hiatus' from coaching after the Packers isn't that out of the ordinary. Jets brought him in and he immediately improved their OLB'ing corps in one season.

Considering Greene for Joey Porter's old job should be a no-brainer. In 2009, as serving as a coaching intern on Pittsburgh's staff during the team's 2008 training camp, Greene began his five-year run as the Packers' OLB coach. Greene worked closely with Clay Matthews, who was a rookie when Greene started his coaching tenure with the Packers. Under Greene's watch, Matthews earned Pro Bowl honors in each of his first four NFL seasons while being tabbed as an All-Pro during the Packers' 2010 championship season. In Super Bowl XLV, after receiving a pep talk from Greene, Matthews delivered one of the game's biggest plays when he forced a fumble of Pittsburgh running back Rashard Mendenhall. Matthew's forced turnover helped hold off the Steelers' comeback bid while giving the Packers their fourth Super Bowl victory.

“He came in a smart kid,” Greene recently said of Matthews. “I was able to show Clay specific techniques one time and he could replicate it.”

Matthews, who now has 83.5 career sacks and six Pro Bowl selections to his name, says that Greene played a significant role in his team's Super Bowl victory back in February in 2011.

“With his preparation, especially at our position, we were able to make some key plays in that game,” Matthews said of Greene’s impact on Super Bowl XLV.

After a three-year hiatus from coaching, Greene served as the New York Jets' OLB coach over the past two seasons. While the Jets failed to produce winning seasons, New York's outside linebackers made significant strides under Greene, with three year veteran Jordan Jenkins setting a career high with 7.0 sacks this past season. Greene is now back on the open market after the Jets made a coaching overhaul immediately following the 2018 season.

While Greene has proven himself as a defensive coach, he also has a unique understanding of the standard that exists in Pittsburgh. A member of a military family, Greene also understands the value of hard work, sacrifice and being selfless and how that applies to team sports. That attitude would surely be welcome in Pittsburgh, as the Steelers look to rebound after a disappointing 2018 season. https://247sports.com/nfl/pittsburgh-st ... 127576596/

This article spells it out quite nicely IMHO. Bring him in if just for an extra set of eyes and experience....

Why? Tomlin is the new full-time DC for the PS. Butler has been demoted back to LB coach. What could go wrong right? Brilliant move!

Worst case scenario is you get a person in the locker room that knows what being a winner and acting like a winner is.

My thoughts exactly.

Also, as far as being "fired" by two teams.....I thought he was a consultant at GB, so took a promotion with the NYJ. Then out, like most coaches, when a new HC is hired.

I think Munchak was also a leader for that OL, so that's more leadership you need to replace. That can't be overstated enough - leadership also comes from coaching. You need a guy like Greene even more because Tomlin isn't that guy.

Hmmm....how many Super Bowls did Kevin Greene win as a player. On could argue that Joey Porter is more a winner than Kevin Greene.

Fact is...we have no idea how good a coach he is.

This is a move the will help with the loss of Munchak as far someone with Respect in the locker room. The steelers have spots open on the staff and would be a perfect place for Greene

Carnell Lake was a not a successful coach. But, generally, I'm of the opinion that bringing back Cowher guys helps this team.

Afterall, Tomlin hasn't done shit without a bunch of Cowher guys.

Let's keep in mind....Kevin Greene played exactly three seasons with the Steelers. Not like he was a Pittsburgh institution.

Leaving New York is probably due to the defensive scheme changing there to a 4-3 defense. Greene fits with a 3-4.

SShhhh.

That's not part of the narrative. . .

You guys are right. We should just wait for Tomlin to hire another one of his buddies in order to maintain the strong culture that Tomlin has established.

This makes too much sense for it to happen in Pittsburgh.

But...Tomlin did do just as much with Cowher guys as Cowher did with Cowher guys.

Fact is...we have no idea how good a coach he is.

Actually, he has a pretty good coaching track record.

Is one going to argue that Joey Porter should be in the Hall of Fame?
Clay Matthews has been quoted as saying that Greene was a big help winning the SB with GB.

Yet he went into the Hall of Fame as a Steeler. I consider that a pretty big honoring of the team and city.

No need for KG. We already have a DB coach masquerading as a HC and a LB coach pretending to be a DC while also being back in charge of LBs.

What could go wrong???

Tomlin got dis...
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

All I know is the guy loves the Steelers and the city of Pittsburgh unlike dual assholes Le'veon Bell and Antonio Brown.

Yes he would at the very least inspire the defense. This move would make to much sense and would benefit the Steelers as much as the linebackers

I have a feeling Kevin could talk for forty uninterrupted minutes on what he would do with Bud.

I also wouldn't mind a military man that completed Jump School hanging around this roster full of pampered assholes.
