Justin Houston anyone?

Post by Legacy User » Thu Mar 14, 2019 7:51 pm

Reading via various tweets and google searches the Steelers are interested

Wonder if it’s bullshit or legit

Thoughts?

I said in another thread if it came down to Houston or Tate, I'd take Houston

Our defense needs the resources and I wouldn't expect immediate help from the rookie class on that side of the ball

Holy hell. Not only a potential signing, but a potential cut? Besides Morgan Burnett, who else is a candidate to be cut for cap savings?

Here are the Steelers players who'd be at least $1M in cap savings if cut, and who have even a snowball's chance of being cut:

Morgan Burnett: 3,633,332
Brimble: 2,025,000
Bostic: 1,800,000
Burns: 1,757,862

I know we talk a bunch of shit around here. But.

Anybody want to hazard a guess, good and bad, what Dupree would look like as an ILB on this defense? Is there any way that you can imagine it being a positive? Best-case scenario? Larry Timmons?

Would he be better than Bostic?

If the answer is yes, do it

Assuming Houston gets his OLB spot

Use him like Shazier????

He's the closest LB as far as the athleticism and speed that they have.....

Not the craziest idea, one of the reasons they let Fort go in FA???

Better question...Is he better than Vince. That’s the guy that needs replaced first...then Bostic.
Try DuPree inside. Why not...what can it hurt? It either works or it doesn’t.

Why I find this unlikely, Dupree and Chickillo could have been let free/cut yet they're eating up over 11M this season. All that could have been avoided if they signed Houston before Tuesday.

Houston would be an interesting play. Take away his monster 22 sack year in 2014 and he's never had more than 11. He's been averaging 9 the last couple years. Injuries have been a factor. The question is how much does he have left in the tank. I think he has 2 years left at a pretty high level.

I have always been a big believer that you can NEVER have enough pass rushers...especially edge rushers. Our guys are dog tired in the 4th quarter and there simply isn't quality pass rushing coming from the bench. Dupree or Watt tired? We send in Chickillo or the likes of Moats to be stuffed. How nice would it to be to mix in a fresher Houston to pin his ears back and attack? It certainly would make Watt's life easier because right now no one takes Dupree sincerely at all (ie. they don't commit more than 1 man to him ever).

For the right price, I'd be intrigued by this deal.

id agree in that he has a couple good years left and yes injuries have taken a toll on him. Whens hes on hes not only a great pass rusher..he is an elite run stuffer as well..probably the best OLB at setting the edge

Apparently he started following Haden, Shazier & Pouncey on Twitter, if that's worth anything...
