Always a Home Game

Post by swissvale72 » Sat Aug 30, 2014 6:57 pm

Book by Josh Miller and some other guy, a fan, that I never heard of.

Mrs. Swiss brought it back for me from Maryland....it's about their visits to Steeler bars in all 32 NFL cities.

'58....Roggies is in there.

Surprise for me though was that the first printed words in the books were endorsements from former Steelers, and first one was from my high school coach, Bill Priatko.

They visited us in Kansas City last summer during preseason. Josh Miller is a pretty cool guy, they covered a lot of territory. I'm looking forward to grabbing a copy.

Looks like a good read Swiss.

Speaking of Roggies, we need to pick a game.

Starting my 19th year in the KC club, great bunch of guys. We're 150-200 strong every Sunday. Minimum 300 during the playoffs. Great fans and one big family from all over the country, about half from Pittsburgh. Very fortunate to have a 2nd family.

They came to our bar in Minnesota during the Packers game. Unfortunately I was at Lambeau so I missed them but all reports were that they were great guys. Josh gave all 100+ Steelers fans a signed terrible towel and even left one for me. We also got a certificate signed by the Rooneys saying it is an official Steelers bar. All in all pretty cool.

I got a signed copy and will be using it when I travel during the season to find REAL Steelers bars instead of what the Post Gazette has which is only a list of places that sometimes have the game on TV.

Bucs, Jags, Colts (4:25 start) or Jets are all possibilities.

Gotta get this! I'd love to stop at a few during a road trip once I retire.

Notice they talked about Harold's Corral in Cave Creek Az. We used to go there every Sunday in the mid 2000's. Incredible place to watch a game. Sorry yinzers, it's better than back in the 'burgh (other than actually being in Pittsburgh). During commercials fight songs play and they raffle off real nice memorabilia each quarter. Talked to Andy Russell, Cliff Stoudt, and Terry Bradshaw there.

Andy was something. "Is that a Superbowl ring?" says I. "Yeah it is." says Andy as he holds it out for me to see. "Can I try it on?" His hand slowly retracts and he stares me in the eyes and says "Never!"

Fox & Hound used to be the Steelers bar in Centerville, Ohio... I believe they went out of business.

I've been to both of those places. No where near Dayton. Both are up near Lake Erie

Other place, in Cleveland, IC, is Winking Lizard Tavern.

Winking Lizard?

Is that next door to the Blinking Brown Eye?
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 88 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

Winking lizard is a chain. A lot of them in NE Ohio. It's like a BW3 or Quaker Stake & Lube.

Steelers to wear decal to honor Chuck Noll

Next Sunday will be Chuck Noll Day, and as part of a season-long commemoration of his coaching career the players will wear decals on the backs of their helmets and the coaches will wear pins. The decals and the pins will be worn throughout the 2014 season.

Love to have one of the pins the coaches are going to wear.

I think they ought to be on the jersey, ala the AJR patches in 1988.

Not inviting comparison between Emperor and Chief, just think it is deserved.

And hint, Herr Goodell, it probably would have gotten me to buy a jersey for the first time in like 10 years.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

I find this topic interesting but I know I will not take the time to read the book...

Did they state a best city or fan club outside of PA?

If they did, Flanker, it's not prominently identified. Perhaps it's in the body of the text somewhere. I've only read through five of their 32 reviews so far. They give the KC club great props.

Did they go to any spots in Cincy?... I am only 40 min away and could make the trip.

*Fox & Hound in Mason (guess that's a chain)
*O'Malley's in the Alley in Cinci
*Martino's on Vine in Cinci

Latter two places got good reports....with Martino's having an extensive collection of memorabilia

I just ordered the book from Amazon. Thanks for the link gentlemen.

Anyone that read it, what bars in Colorado made the cut? "Overtime" in Colorado Springs?

People would start lining up at 7 AM in the frigid Colorado weather just so they could get a seat to watch the game. I usually got there at 8-9 for an 11 AM kick off and either had to stand or sit on the other side of the bar with no view of the big screen.

Rusty Buck Bar & Grill in Lakewood and Buccelli's JJ Madwell's in Conifer. both got good reviews.
