Minkah one of those irreplaceable dudes on defense alright.
Tony Jefferson was a good player before his knee surgery.

I know Colbert downplayed the NT position, but I can't get Gus Edwards and RG3 rushing for over 200 yds out of my head.
I'd give a one year deal to a veteran cap cut or street free agent such as Big Snack Damien Harris or Marcel Darius just to help sure up the middle of the d-line
They won't but I would.

Remember after signing Morgan Burnett and drafting Terrell Edmunds that Colbert and company, in all of their smug bullshit, were talking about how you don't need the physical LB anymore that can shed blocks and you could just plug these safeties inside and everything would be alllll fine, and THAT'S why they didn't draft an ILB? I do.

Even though they were actively trying to trade up to draft Rashaan Evans that same draft. And after that failure of a year on the D where we gashed and couldn't stop shit they traded up for Devin Bush the next season.

They can go on all day about how the NT position is not on the field much and you don't need some mammoth clogging up the middle anymore, but they are full of shit and it is definitely a huge need.

I tend to agree with that somewhat. But not because its wholly true.

I think alot of it comes down to finesse coaching and scheme and the fact is the Steelers havent really valued coaching and scheme more than other teams since Noll left.

There have been a few somewhat notable exceptions but nothing really lasting.

The Steelers really like to and want to just line up and move straight ahead as much as possible. Im not knocking Cowher or Tomlin. Both are great HCs. But the Steelers deep in their organizational core dont really want to outscheme anyone or play differently according to a given situation. Most of the time the Steelers want to line up and do what they do regardless of opponent score time situation etc. Hell they even publicly say as much very often.

Given all of that ^^^^

A big boat anchor NT who can clog the middle is probably a good idea. Particularly with 2 All-Pro level DEs

I'd rather see them kick the tires on DL Keionta Davis...

Tak isn't a free agent.
The Falcons just declined his 5th yr option

One of the things that gets me through these groundhog-like days is my fantasy the NFL season will start sooner rather than later.
Colbert has proven willing to sign FAs or trade to patch holes after the draft.

Brandon Boykin, Vance McDonald, Ross Cockrell, JJ Wilcox, Switzer,

Minor moves but shows he's at least willing.

I'm throwing one year deals at Snacks Harrison, Marcel Dareus, and Tony Jefferson. See who bites first.

Jefferson kinda interests me.
Assuming season doesn't start on time he has more time to rehab his knee injury.

Any upgrade to the interior line is of major interest. We have a gaping hole there with four games against the Ravens and Browns in-division alone. We have speedy little finesse LBs that need protection. It's a big problem.
