Steelers signed WR Anthony Miller to the practice squad.
Initially expected to sign with Jacksonville's practice squad, Pittsburgh reportedly offered Miller a spot on their active roster and swayed his decision. Although the former Texans wideout will start the week on a practice squad, he's expected to join the Steelers' 53-man roster in place of JuJu Smith-Schuster in the coming days. Miller most recently garnered a 20% target share in both games played for Houston before being released.

James Washington clone IIRC ???

Same size/deep speed, but much better COD. Shorter arms too. I've seen him play a decent amount. On a few occasions he's shown WR1B or WR2, but more often then not he's shown more like a WR3-4, and that's when he's healthy -- which isn't all that often. He's supposed to be supper competitive, but I haven't seen it. I have no idea about his neck-up skill, but if I had to guess that might be one of his issues.
He has physical talent to do well in the right system and he certainly hasn't had the best QBs throwing to him. Hopefully we get the best version of him.

He reminded me of Hines Ward with Antonio Brown's attitude/work ethic when he was in college:DP39 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 9:02 pmSame size/deep speed, but much better COD. Shorter arms too. WR Anthony Miller, Memphis Probably the closest thing to Antonio Brown you could ever see, from the chip on the shoulder to the desire to be great and the willingness to work like mad to make that happen. He’s not just a WR playing football, he’s a football player playing WR. Voted most likely to spend every day of the offseason catching 1000 footballs from a Juggs machine and working with Ochocino on footwork drills.

Looks quicker than JJSS. Hopefully he gets on the same page as Ben ASAP

Is he far away better than Rico Busey and a couple other guys we had in camp? Because if not, why bring him in when there were a couple guys who already were exposed to the playbook and our QB's?
I thought same thing. For them to sign him means they believe his talent outshines current PS talent.
They signed him to the PS…whether or not he stays there remains to be seen. My guess is he’s just a body to fill Cody White’s old spot.
I’m pretty sure Bussey is on IR.

He'll most definitely take JuJu's 53 spot when the FO officially puts him on IR. He wouldn't have signed to stay on the PS; I'm sure of that.Jobu wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 12:46 pmThey signed him to the PS…whether or not he stays there remains to be seen. He's been a Jekyll/Hyde player for sure. Not sure what's up with him, but I hope he turns it around/on here. If he does, he can be just as effective as JuJu, imo.
Yep. If nothing else, he's definitely put time in the weight room; dude is yoked for a WR. Hopefully the stories of him doing the work to perfect his craft are still true, as well.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 9:51 pmHe reminded me of Hines Ward with Antonio Brown's attitude/work ethic when he was in college:DP39 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 9:02 pmSame size/deep speed, but much better COD. You could be right but I’m not as sure as you. If they bring him up to the 53 they’ll either cut White or go with 6 WRs. I don’t see them keeping 6.DP39 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 1:20 pmHe'll most definitely take JuJu's 53 spot when the FO officially puts him on IR. I guess it depends on how much they like White.

Dude was stuck with Mitch Trubisky, Tyrod Taylor, & Davis Mills throwing to him and still put up better yards per target than post-AB JuJu.

This. Miller and Ben get on the same page, I can see him being a door slamming stick mover in this offense.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 1:42 pmDude was stuck with Mitch Trubisky, Tyrod Taylor, & Davis Mills throwing to him and still put up better yards per target than post-AB JuJu.
Let Claypool and DJ run more intermediate routes to take the lid off and open up the middle of the field. Could help a lot with getting Muth more open in the seam.
I like the signing.

Meanwhile we gave up a fifth rounder for a one year rental on a guy who, apparently, is never going to see the field. WTF. Why did we not just keep Nelson?

This is low-key a really good addition
"Work harder not smarter" - Mike Tomlin
I hope so. Certainly little-to-no risk, really.
Like I said before, for his talent and draft spot, he's been a Jekyll and Hyde player, based on the numerous times I've watched him play. It's my hope (as b2b pointed out) his "Hyde" is based mostly on the QBs (lack of) he's had him throwing him the rock during his semi-short career.
Thinking back to his draft year, it definitely is. The talent is there. I also remember Randall Cobb comparos being tossed around. Better than White, our PS and preseason dumpster guys. Better WR than McCloud. Should be able to do WR3/4 stuff with Washington. I like the add.

If Miller can be useful
Claypool DJ White Miller McCloud isn’t great but if White and Miller can play to their upsides it could work
I really think the Steelers need to grab Wydermyer in the draft and run many more 2 TE sets

I know we all know how useless he's become.
How many games do we think Washington is going to get this season? Done for the season?

I personally like how they've been getting Gentry involved, but I could see em using Ebron more now that Juju's down.
Did I miss something?

I'd like to see some significant PT for Wash if possible, as well. See what we've got in house. If you could go DJ, Chase, some combination of Miller/Wash, you could probably fill in with what we have, and at the very least remove WR from the draft priority list.

You and b2b are right. I agree Ebron is great at getting open/separation down the field. Consistently catching those passes is another story. And, his blocking or tipping your O hand when he's on the field in-line.....Forgetaboutit.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 11:42 pmI think B2B has made a good case Ebron isn’t horribleDP39 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 11:17 pmWhat?
