I'm guessing the reason Ben returned this year was because of how ugly the CLE playoff game was and his belief that the D would be strong enough that he could get them back to the playoffs if he could just play decent QB. Just 16 days ago it looked like he had made a good bet but then we had the Mason Masterpiece against the Lions, the comeback that fell short against the Chargers and whatever the hell yesterday was and just like that it would take a miracle to even make the playoffs despite one of the weakest overall AFC fields in years.

I agree that Ben probably doesn't want to go out with the "unleashing of Hell" that this December could easily turn into. However, in looking at the Steelers short term future roster, it's not hard to believe you will likely see another shit show next year.

Yes, he COULD return but if the team is going to be terrible again, why would you want to when it will end just as ugly or worse?
