Just heard it on 93.7 The Fan. Wow.
Best of luck to him.

It hurts in the short term, but the cap relief and the increased playing time for Leal and Loudermilk should be a positive for the future. Even with a 100% healthy and motivated Tuitt, this team wasn’t going anywhere meaningful in the next two years.
I think this frees up $9m. Someone can correct me if that's wrong

They should have pressed him for an answer to his plans before free agency or at least before the draft.

That’s pretty much what we all wanted round here. It’s his life and can do what he wants. If that is to retire good for him.Jizz Mop wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 6:40 pmYepstairway 2 seven wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 6:35 pmThey should have pressed him for an answer to his plans before free agency or at least before the draft.
But to hold the team hostage was bullshit.
Guess Cam was wrong when he was saying how he expects Tuitt back.
If I had to wager, my bet is that this isn’t over.
Tuitt will be un-retire himself and land on another team at some point.
Is a June 1st retirement the same as a June 1st cut?

Why would he do that? Tomlin is a player's coach. His men love him.Jizz Mop wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 6:58 pmI’m gonna agree955876 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 6:47 pmThat’s pretty much what we all wanted round here. It’s his life and can do what he wants. If that is to retire good for him.

Timing could have been much better but at least this chapter is closed now.

Huge loss. Ugh.
Granted, our Super Bowl odds moved from 0% before this announcement all the way down to 0% from the TB MegaCollider Index v2.0.

So you're not expecting a Curt Warnereske resurgence by Trubisky?Steelperch wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 6:17 pmIt hurts in the short term, but the cap relief and the increased playing time for Leal and Loudermilk should be a positive for the future. Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Good riddance. We need volunteers on this team, not hostages.

Was his reason that he was still in mourning? Did the media make sure he said that?

The Fat Fuck Mark Madden reporting (take it with a grain of salt) the organization was aware for months, so at least he wasn't stringing us along.
Tuitt's world (with the PSs enabling him):
I'm mourning.
I'm mysteriously 'injured'.
I'm mourning for life and I'm mysteriously injured.
I'm mourning for life, I'm mysteriously injured and I'm selling my house.
I'm mourning for life, I'm mysteriously injured, I sold my house and I'm 'getting my ND degree'.
I'm mourning for life, I'm mysteriously injured, I sold my house, I'm 'getting my ND degree' and I'm retiring!
Reality (with the PSs enabling him):
My brother died.
I'm faking an injury.
My brother died, I'm faking an injury and I'm stealing giant paychecks.
My brother died, I'm faking an injury, I'm stealing giant paychecks and I sold my house.
My brother died, I'm faking an injury, I'm stealing giant paychecks, I sold my house and I'm getting a degree from a college I never came close to actually academically qualifying for.
My brother died, I'm faking an injury, I'm stealing giant paychecks, I sold my house, I'm getting a degree from a college I never came close to actually academically qualifying for and now I'm retiring after stealing more giant paychecks.
My brother died, I'm faking an injury, I'm stealing giant paychecks, I sold my house, I'm getting a degree from a college I never came close to actually academically qualifying for, now I'm retiring after stealing more giant paychecks and soon I WILL unretire and play for the Atlanta Falcons.

That’s what I figured. And I agree…they knew.
On the third day he rose again, in fulfillment of the scriptures, and headed straight for the Golden Corral out Robinson Town Center.

Not surprised by Tuitt deciding to retire. He wouldn't get through camp without be put on IR for another vaginal injury.fractalsteel wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 7:29 pmTiming could have been much better but at least this chapter is closed now.
Too bad Bush doesn't want to quit.
Bush put plenty of quit on film last year. He has another year of stealing paychecks prior to retirement.
I knew this shit would happen which is why I was sounding alarm bells in Free Agency and the Draft about Dline. Leal better gain some weight and be a stud or Loudermilk better have gained more leg strength or we are going to be fcked.
The best you can say about this is that he didn't drag this along through training camp to try to collect paychecks. We all knew his heart wasn't in it anymore...this just confirmed it.

I'm wondering if because he was on a roster/signed as of the start of the league year if he accrued an extra year of service (which matters to his pension benefit)?Valentino_Blake wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 8:02 pmThe Fat Fuck Mark Madden reporting (take it with a grain of salt) the organization was aware for months, so at least he wasn't stringing us along.
Not sure that's the case, but I wouldn't have done it. I'd also be seeking to re-coup 1-yr of pro rated signing bonus. He stole the better part of $14M last year.

One of the PPG writers was saying if PIT was willing to trade-up for Pickett, then it was a no-brainer to trade up for Jordan Davis. His point was even if Tuitt wasn't on the roster, he probably definiteily wasn't going to be next year. Plus, Heyward isn't getting any younger.

If Picket doesn’t end up being better than Trubisky then the team is going to look pretty dumb for not doing that very thing.Kodiak. wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 11:01 pmOne of the PPG writers was saying if PIT was willing to trade-up for Pickett, then it was a no-brainer to trade up for Jordan Davis. If Trubisky and Picket are a push, we fucked up there.
To me they seem like very similar QBs. Time will tell on that one.

I should have said 'retired.
If Tuit is really looking to score one more big contract then the smartest thing he should do was play this year. If he comes back next year I would think teams would be Leary about giving him big money considering last season and then retiring in his prime before this season.
