“I don't really evaluate Mike on anything other than I’m glad he’s our coach,” Rooney said. “Hopefully he’ll be our coach into the future. He gives us a chance to win, year in and year out, and put us in a position where we have a chance to compete for a championship.”
"So, we have to proceed with caution, but when you’re pursuing greatness, risk-taking is a part of it. Calculated risk-taking. That’s what you’re talking about when you’re drawing up big plays schematically.”

Last playoff Fuckin’ win was over 6 years ago
Wtf
Rooney’s can kiss my ass
They’ve let the whole coaching stability story lead them down a path to mediocrity
So sick of his stupid dumb ass on the sidelines

Glad I'm only in my mid 40s. There's hope I might see another coach in my lifetime. For those of you in your 60s and up, I feel bad for you. You'll never know a different coach.

Just under the cut off! As you lie on your deathbed, the Steelers will win their first game without Tomlin by 30 points. You will then pass away.

This is good news! Maybe Tomlin will now have enough time to get those hot reads installed. /s

At least we now have evidence on paper that Tomlin isn’t evaluated at all. Not by Rooney and by very few in the media.

The Good:
Never had a losing season.
Won the Super Bowl in 2008, and lost a close one in 2010.
won 6 AFC North Championships since 2008
2nd most wins since 2008, behind only the Cheatriots
The Bad:
No Playoff wins since 2016
Wasted the Bell, Brown years
When you read the above resume, why is it a first ballot hall of fame resume for Ben, but a terrible one for Tomlin? If Tomlin is responsible for the bad, isn't Ben also responsible? He was the highest paid player by a lot.

I have no reason to doubt an extension is coming, but if you read that article, you will see that Dulac is providing us no new information.
He’s just logically building off what Art II said in his end of season interview.
So this story was Dulac saying “Hey everybody…read my stuff!”

it does feel like a lot of the local reporting predicting things everyone expects and calling it a news report.

The success we had was because of Ben in spite of Tomlin’s shortcomings. And I was a fan of Tomlin and commend him for the successes of 2008-2010. But you have to continue to get better in this league or the league will pass you up. And that’s what’s happened to Tomlin. But Rooney believes in the hype and the maintenance of NHALS so he sings Tomlin’s praises.
Ben had plenty left in the tank and offensive weapons galore including a top 3 offensive line. It was Tomlin’s responsibility (and his specialty, right?) to build a defense that could take us to the promise land and basically but for a personal foul fest by Vontaze Burfict and the Chiefs/Alex Smith shitting the bed in Kansas City in 2017, the entire decade until Ben retired last season was a cataclysmic failure. That’s on the head coach. You need a team to win a Super Bowl these days. Even Brady could never do it alone.

Well Art II is 70. Any chance the next generation of Rooney’s has a quicker trigger finger?

And, as mentioned before, Tomlin is already signed through 2024. Last extension was an exception - all the other extensions came with just 1 year left.
I don't expect Rooney to give any indication of Tomlin's seat getting warm, but it is hard for me to imagine he's going to extend a guy who hasn't won a playoff game in 6+ years prematurely.
I'm with most here, I think, that if you haven't won a playoff game in 6+ years and choose to keep rolling with Canada...If the offense and Kenny don't take a big step forward next year, how would Tomlin not be accountable for that?!?

A. winning seasons...not translated into post-season is entirely worthless. As we see
this year.
B. 2008, 2010. This year is 2023.
C. Not a winning percentage and not a dynasty, and got no further.
D. That didn't exactly win super bowls

Apparently Rooney is also speechless because it doesn't make any sense. "I don't really evaluate Mike on anything other than I’m glad he’s our coach" taken literally means "My evaluation is based on how glad I am." I'm sure if pressed he'd have SOMETHING to say.

If this is a real quote:
“I don't really evaluate Mike on anything other than I’m glad he’s our coach,” Rooney said. “Hopefully he’ll be our coach into the future. He gives us a chance to win, year in and year out, and put us in a position where we have a chance to compete for a championship.”
As a manager of people always evaluating etc, this is just unfuckingbelieveable. A colossal WTF moment and at the same time a downer feeling like we are absolutely fucked until this Rooney passes the torch! Good lord I can’t even wrap my head around that comment.

Psssst. Hey Dunce. Errrrrr I mean Art.
Our playoff opponents (when we actually manage to squeak in) are super glad he’s our coach too…

My, my, my... It seems most everybody here has now come around to the ole Lynch Meister's point of view regarding Tomlin.
Too bad it took 15 years. We could have won several more super bowls with a drunken street bum as head coach during that time.

Literally, sure. But I think he's just saying he's happy with the results. He went on to say something about being competitive and "in the mix" every year.
Which syncs with what he's said in the past. He views the playoffs as a lottery ticket, and he feels Mike punches that lottery ticket every year. Doesn't matter if the idiot picks 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 as his numbers, Rooney is happy just to have a chip and a chair.
