Draft experiment
Draft every position at least 10 spots late for rounds
1 and 2 15 spots late for 3 and 4 and 20 spots late for 7 using a published overall ranking site
Try to think like Steelers FO and give credence but not absolutes to linked players and roster needs. Feel free to mock unlinked players if you feel strongly
Here’s mine with NFL Draft Buzz
17/27 Dawand Jones OT OSU
The Steelers could upgrade LT or RT with this pick and they value a power run game far more than a fleet footed pass protector.
32/42 Keion White DE Georgia Tech
Considered several others here but all had some very un Steeler like flaws and a high motor player with athletically freakish traits wins out
49/59 Julius Brents CB Kansas State
Ok. I cheated a bit here as NFL Draft Buzz has him at 56. A guy the Steelers reportedly like
80/95 Jonathan Mingo WR Ole Miss
Big WR who likes the physical part of the game. TB has rumors the Steelers like him and he’s been in for a visit
120/135 Keondre Coburn NT Texas
Notably high motor player at 330+ perfect Steeler NT build. Recruited by Dunbar at Bama. Had dinner with Dunbar
234/254 Tanner Ingle SS NC State
Checks boxes for Steeler SS. In for a visit
241/261 Shaka Heyward Duke
7 rounds with no legacy picks ???? Can’t have that lol

I'd be good to go with this haul. More excited about those r4 and down players than I've been about Colbert late round draft punts in a while.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
Most of that would be fine with me. Keion White i don’t get how he’s ranked high; he’s 24 years old, wasn’t a particularly good college player, and refused agility testing. Lot of great Edge prospects available there this year.
I'd be really concerned with that draft. Jones has some really good film, but color me concerned that he wouldn't weigh in at his pro day. Too many pizzas ahead of time?
White doesn't impress me. He lacks an explosive first step, doesn't have much bend and just relies on a bull rush most of the time.

Here is me with CBS
In this draft the Steelers bookend the OL with great fits at both OT spots, land Coburn at NT again and create potential height mismatches with the WR unit with Pickens and Knowles
17/27 Anton Harrison OT Oklahoma
32/42 Drew Sanders LB Arkansas
49/59 Dawand Jones OT OSU
80/95 Tyrique Stevenson CB Miami
120/135 Keondre Coburn NT Texas
234/254 Malik Knowles WR Kansas St
241/261 Chase Brown RB Illinois

Don't think Dawand and Coburn drop that far?
End of draft crap shoot...
Malik Knowles.
Don't know him.
Just looked him up.
6'2" 196
How's his hands?
8 3/4" hands
14 TDs in 5 years at KSU

for context, xavier hutchinson is a 3x 1st team all-conference in the Big 12, has 15 career tds, and last season was the first time he broke 1000 yards.

I watched a few Knowles highlights
- He has some electricity to him in the open field with the ball in his hands
- Accomplished kick returner
- Does well with the Deebo Samuel hybrid type stuff. Jet sweeps, inside handoffs, WR screens, etc
- Not going to bulldoze in the NFL but unafraid to bang for extra yards
- Looks fast on tape. Big target radius. Capable of making wow catches
Does he have some negatives ?? He’s a late rounder for a reason but given how that draft fell there were guys I just couldn’t ignore earlier.
Most teams don’t have 2 big starting CBs. If they do one of them is slow. If both are fast one of them is a track guy with limited COD. Knowles looks like he has good COD for his size.
Paired with Pickens I don’t know if I would classify that as a nightmare for other teams but it would be consistently tough.
I’d be very happy if the Steelers drafted him in the 7th

Thanks...
I learn about many of these college kids from the expertise of the SF and then go look them up.
Looks like MK and XH are both late round picks? Similar players in HT. WT. 40 time.

Late round WR that is ST capable works.
Hoping for a more NFL ready, 3rd or 4th round guy that maybe lands to us.
A trade down would help us pick up another 3rd or 4th.
Steelers are thin at WR.
Pickens and Dionte at #1 and #2.
After that alot of questions at for #3, 4 and 5.
Austin, Gunner, Cody White, Anthony Miller.
The guys currently on the roster and competing for these spots
have combined for 6 catches and 12 over the last 2 years.
Calvin Austin has not played a down. Can he stay healthy?
Gunner, thats a win for opponents if he is lined up on offense. 5 catches for 53 yards in 2022 long of 31, 8 carries for 39 yards, long of 18.....
I am not gonna say take away the long catch or run, but if you do so, and do the math.....the other 4 catches averaged 5.5 yards and the other 7 carries averaged 3 yards.
Cody White. 6 catches in 2 years.
Anthony Miller, Can he stay healthy. 1 catch in 2 years in Pittsburgh.
Pickens and or Dionte go down for a game or two..........utter mess at who will be on the field and how easy we will be to defend.
I would think they add a FA after the draft.
AND WR could / should be in play at 32 and 49.

knowles declined to do any timed testing, which is a significant flag to me. If he could run in the 4.4s, that would make him a lot of money right now, so i would assume either he can’t or he’s insane. Probably the former.Stosh-67 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 3:33 pmThanks...

But on the similarities train, both 5th year guys turning 23 this summer as well. Late in the draft, i don’t hate either. That’s not saying a lot tho
