NFL Network: Steelers expected to hire Arthur Smith

Smith had a top run game as #Titans OC before heading to Atlanta three years ago. Now he’ll be coaching Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren and company in Pittsburgh.

I hate this organization.

I didn’t realize Smith was under LaFleur before taking over (very successfully) the Titans offense.

I’m going to hold off on crushing pessimism for now.

Perfect opportunity to find a young, hungry OC with fresh ideas, but we go with the failed HC that had a good running game with Derrick Henry. We just will not take any risks as an organization from the owner's box to the field.

Slim Pickens. Young, aspiring coaches arent going to derail their career path by working here.

Disappointed. Just screams complacency and not a choice that will take this offense to the next level.

Gonna check out the Falcons Reddit page for some reaction and insight.

I realize we are screwed as long as Tomlin is here. Who would want to coach under him EXCEPT someone that was canned for failing to succeed somewhere? Oh and because our organization is lazy AF and doesn’t go out and find a young guy in college that is kicking ass.

its been telegraphed, so rooney wants a running team, we once we blocked it up right, we can run, but we need to pass first to set up the run

this freaking team

This organizational obsession with the running game has to stop. You just don't build a super bowl winning team that way anymore. When will they wake up to this realization? But I digress...our issue as always is "execution". Nothing to do with trying to build a team that will win the 1974 Super Bowl.

probably when the NFL’s leading running back isn’t favored to win the superbowl would be a guess for when.

The important question is, will this recycled turd orchestrate the offense from the sidelines or the booth?

I had high hopes that moving Canada from the booth to the sidelines would fix all the problems.

But until you have the next Mahomes you cannot pretend that you can build the next Mahomes-led offense.

So we need to find another way to do it. Unfortunately it means possession and keeping the ball out of Mahomes/Allen’s hands.

Look, we are fucked for a very long time. Post-Ben Pergatory, and that’s keeping the blinders on from remembering that TOMLIN wasted the last 10-12 years of Ben’s HoF career.

Pens suck too. PGH sports was due for a dry spell; sadly.

One thing positive, Coach Mike Tomlin will have a former head coach hovering around him.

He might not like it that much. Could be humorous.

But he's now protected from criticism. Everyone will go after Smith big time.

That should also be humorous.
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."

We hired a guy with zero other options. Who could have predicted that? Oh yeah, everyone because this is the most predictable franchise in the league on and off the field. What are the chances he puts together a successful offense without one of the best RBs in league history and a great oline? He didn't do much with Atlanta's young QBs so Kenny probably knows he's fucked. Hey, that great QB he worked with in Tennessee is a FA!
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

I guess this is a back to the future hire. Attempt to establish a strong run game using Najee and Warren to open things up for whomever the QB will be….

It’s not what I want to see, it’s really not exciting or innovative but I understand it, kind of. They know they really don’t have a strong QB and the future is muddled there (being kind).

They see The Tits having some success with Tanneyhill as QB and a strong run game. In 2019 Tits score 402 points that season. They win 9 games, make playoffs, BEAT PATS!!!! Lose AFCC

2020 Tits win 11 games and their division with Tanneyhill and Henry on offense with AJ Brown playing solid WR and playing strong defense. Tits score 491 points that year!
They do lose to the Ravens (thumbs down)

They must see a guy that as an OC that his teams scored points and had success with a mid to lower level QB with a strong run game.

AGAIN, NOT WHAT I WANT!!! However, with question marks at QB and the thought that Najee and Warren are/or could be a productive tandem at RB, I think they feel this is the way to win games.

Wake me up in August

I am not sure why this is such bad news. He might be a retread, but at least he has had success recently as an NFL OC. That makes him far better than the incompetents Fichter and Canada who had never before been NFL OCs and will likely never coach in the league again.

This makes Pittsburgh a likely destination for Tannehill assuming Mason and Mitch are gone.
