Thanks for starting this thread and tracking these connection once again.
I look forward to it.

I do not follow college football as much as many of the great posters on this site.

And when this thread runs its course up to the draft, it becomes one of the best sources of Steeler prospects on the web.

Thanks

Michigan (Tomlin, Khan, Smith, Austin)
Unless they are scouting McCarthy, I do not see another 1st round Michigan player. Roman Wilson maybe if I squint. I have him as the 9th best WR and I might be generous

Curry was at Toledo's pro day. Dallas Gant, Judge Culpepper etc.

Quinyon didn't workout after his monster combine.

The number of quality prospects might have brought them to the yard. Sainristil, IOL, Junior Colson, Roman Wilson, Cornelius Johnson, Kris jenkins

Roman Wilson is the closest thing to Dionte Johnson in the draft. That would allow them to address OL and CB with the top 2 picks.

What makes you think they want another DJ type? I don't see that being the fit. They want Aj Brown or JuJu I think

They need a skilled route runner to get 6 yards on 3rd down. They really don’t have that.

I agree just you normally associate a visit like this with HC, GM, OC and DC with possible 1st round pick.

Drafting JJ McCarthy should be a firable offense.

Roman Wilson is only scratching the surface. He's going to be a good pro.

Santonio Holmes
Antonio Brown
Emmanuel Sanders
Markus Wheaton
Dionte Johnson

The Steelers have a type. It’s not the only style of receiver they’ll bring in, but they always have at least one of them on the roster. They currently don’t. I’ve said all year, Roman Wilson fits their profile to a T. Mid sized crafty route runner in the 3rd round range of the draft. Good compliment to Pickens, good replacement for Dionte Johnson.

I agree about the history... I just feel like there's a shift from the catch and run, quick offense to a motion/PA/big blockers/big targets offense. That's why the difference of opinion.

Wilson I think might work anyway, because he's into blocking. I would rule out any receiver who isn't at least willing as a blocker.

If he is able to add 10-15lbs of NFL muscle, Culpepper could be a terror on the DL.

Someone pointed out that part of the Steeler Draft crystal ball is missing. No reports of dinners with prospects

Wiggins, Trotter, Shipley, & Putnam from Clemson are the only names I've seen....but that's not really from the best of sources.

Usually you can just match up the positions of need with whichever Pro Days Tomlin attended and that'll give you the list.

Just took a look at last years visit list and it looks like the majority took place in the first 2 weeks of April.

Also, the Big 12 pro day starts on Thursday, so I'll imaging we get some news then.

2 quick updates:

Zach Azzanni was apparently at the Western Kentucky pro day. Steelers are taking a long look at Malachi Corely.
Ray Fitipaldo was interviewed by 93.7 and mentioned that Amarius Mims was brought in for a visit. As of now, this is the only place its been mentioned, so i'm going to toss it into "unconfirmed"

So, for those of us thinking Michael Thomas in the 1st, that'd most likely be a resounding no. Weidl and Ike supposedly there, too, fwiw.

You mean Bryan Thomas? You're probably right, but I'd wait to see if they bring him in as a pre-draft visit. I was wondering if Zach Azzanni was gearing up for the Big 12 Pro Day, but I just checked that list and there's a whole lot of nothing at WR (the only draftable prospect is Jacob Cowing).

I wouldn't read too much into Ike being there. I think his role is regional scout - Last year he was at the Florida, UCF, and Miami pro days. This year it's Miami, Bama, and LSU.

You know the worst part about getting Thomas' name wrong? I picked him r1 in the mock. Last day before spring break. I'm a little fried. Yeah, Ike was apparently working out a S named Sam' at LSU, again, FWIW. Later round projection guy. Think I read it on Depot, for the sake of giving credit.

Has to be for Maason Smith. Looks like a prototype Steeler.
