The Pittsburgh Steelers have gaping holes at this point of the FA offseason but they also have some less obvious flaws. The draft fell to us more than I expected-- even if, say, more QBs were taken, I still feel like there a chance more prospects we like might go in the real draft. But this is why we do the exercise. The tantalizing skill position BPAs are tempting, but that's the eye candy. We need steak and potatoes.

A big 'under the radar" concern I have is that our OL don't really fit the scheme the new OC supposedly will run incessantly. That seems like a problem waiting to become a disaster. Arthur Smith has said many times that his outside zone-obsessed offense will work as long as he has OLmen who can "get off the ball" at the snap. He has repeatedly said that's the #1 trait he looks for. This prospect has issues-- experience, availability that have creeped up here and there, but one issue he does not have to worry about is quick get off-- he might be as quick out of his stance as anyone his size you'll ever see. The player he would hope to replace in the starting lineup might be the slowest out of his stance of any member of the Steelers OL. There's risk involved with this pick, but the upside, the importance of the position, the big gap from here to the next prospect at this position ,and the amount of upgrade from the current roster makes this the best pick at 1.20.
