Ready-made brawler without an ounce of finesse in his game. Fautanu has starting experience at tackle and guard and is well-coached, but he will default to unruly hand-fighting when his technique gets away from him.

LTs need finesse in their game. Brawler sounds more like a guard. Combine that with his small size and he may be better suited to guard?

There are a shit ton of tackles in the NFL who succeed and play at a high level with his profile. And his arms are longer than many of theirs.

People have these ideas of prototypes in their heads and if you just look across the league, you realize that most guys playing the position don't fit the mold including among the best.

I wouldn’t say a ton, but he’s a lot like Rashawn Slater who has been a very good LT so far.

I wouldn’t say a ton, but he’s a lot like Rashawn Slater who has been a very good LT so far.

Zach Tom, Leno and Onwenu not as good as Slater obviously but all good starters. Plus the most common height for OT starters is 6 5' and Fautanu is a hair from 6 4'. So hardly a massive discrepancy.

Fautanu's arm length and great feet more than make up for that imho. Of all the top OTs (in draft), Fautanu's ability to reset his feet and recover from a bad position is arguably the best.

I think there is an excellent chance Fautanu has a better NFL career than Joe Alt. Alt is too tall and has very short arms. That's a bad combo.

What about the assessment that he has "zero finesse in his game"? How many LTs succeed w/ zero finesse?

Maybe a few giants like Jonathan Ogden or Orlando Brown?
