BAD NEWS: Nate Herbig has a torn rotator, per sources, an injury that could keep him out for the entire season.

Nate Herbig, the starting center since the beginning of training camp, has a significant shoulder injury that will keep him out for an extended period of time, per sources. That means rookie Zach Frazier becomes the starter and will begin the regular season there.

If it's determined that he's out for the season, do they release him with an injury settlement or IR him? Not sure how all that works, as he's on the books for $5.46M but he would only count as $1.46M if he's released (not including any settlement $ I guess). Again, not sure how it works, but could there potentially be some cap savings at least -- looking for a silver lining.

Someone on Reddit suggested calling Mason Cole and someone posted an Alan Faneca-like picture of him weighing probably 210 lbs.

Im thinking McCormick is going to get alot if looks/snaps at center the next few weeks. Gonna be tough to make happen, cause Frazier still needs all the work he can get. But McCormick has the team "made". Myswell find him a role. Mcullum still hanging around too.

Fortunately we are deep in the interior (although we don’t really have a true backup center, assuming Herbig was). This gets Zach Frazier in the lineup (I want to see him serve up some pancakes), and we have McCormick and Spencer Anderson behind the starters. This was one of the deepest positions on the team.

I I’m not mistaken, McCollum played some at center against Buff Bills.

This sucks for Herbig but it may have saved Tomlin from himself. Now, he's forced to start Frazier. There might be some growing pains but Frazier and the Steelers will be better off in the long run.

Well, McCollum is the one true center they have in the rotation after Frazier.
