Dionte and the Ravens

Dionte playing it cool all wanting to visit with his former 'mates, but my guess is he’s less than pleased the Steelers dumped him in the NFL wasteland that is the Carolina Panthers.

DJ hasn’t made an impact for the Ravens, and I don’t want Sunday at 1:00 PM to be his wake up call.

Still, I for one like to be entertained when dedicating 3 hours of my Sunday to watch a usually mundane NFL football game, so I kinda hope DJ is part of Monken's gameplan (thanks for the back to back Natty's, Todd).

Yes, the NFL, to me anyway, is a bland, watered down product chalked full of penalties and injury prone players.

Watching your run of the mill NFL game is like drinking a Coke Zero.

I don’t (yet) need Viagra, but it takes A LOT for me to get up for an NFL football game.

The Steelers/Ravens however…

I want some chippy-ness.

I want Minkah to give Dionte a shot on snap one.

Give that toolbox an extra shove to remind him he’s not welcome in Pittsburgh.

My guess however is the Steelers defense is going to be much more centered around stopping Lamar (my twice yearly reminder that Terrell Edmunds is from Virginia).

The real story of this game might be Pat Queen.

Seems like an emotional fella who is going usher in a new chapter to the lore that is the Steelers/Ravens rivalry.

I expect he’s going to be assigned to his boy Lamar.

I look for Queen to be quite enthusiastic about bringing his former mate to the turf.
Extreme prejudice might earn him a personal foul or 3.

Kyle Hamilton and George Pickens a couple of feisty dudes. I expect some chirpin and shovin between those two youngins.

King Henry is going to get his. I hope Elandon Roberts and co. bring their big boy pads.

My worry?

Zay Flowers

Shifty little fella.

Excitement on a stick.

Joey Jr going to be extra, extra grabby trying to keep up with him.

Mark Andrews on a heater (wow, that’s an annoying little phrase).

Wanna know how the Steelers are going to win?

Special teams.

Johnny Harb's area of expertise.

But his HOF kicker is a shell of his former self.

Tucker going to doink one and shank another

Boz wins this one with a Todd Haley TD in OT.

Jubilation and merriment at Acrisure Stadium (Thanks for that Art2).

Go Najee!
Go Russ!!
Go Uncle Artie!!!
Go Tomlin!!!!
Go Skenes!!!!!
GOOOO LIVVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good stuff drama. I thought I heard Hamilton is out this game?

I’ll have to look into that.

Update: hues we’ll see.

PFT…..” The Ravens have said that safety Kyle Hamilton avoided a serious ankle injury when he went down in last Thursday’s win over the Bengals, but his status for this weekend’s game against the Steelers remains up in the air.

Hamilton didn’t practice in Tuesday’s informal workout and he remained out for Wednesday’s official start to the practice week as well. Hamilton’s experience likely means that he can play with little practice time, but some time on the field would be a good sign for his status.”

Latest on Dionte's antics.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/427 ... enter-game

Sadly, like AB he was a cancer that was primed to implode. Glad we got rid of him when we did and I'm ecstatic we got a solid player in return for a position of need. Jackson has been good to very good most of the time.

Donte over Dionte all day and twice on Sundays :)

I'd do it. What's to lose? (Besides a few yards after running backwards after a catch)

As bad as the WR room is right now, it's an instant upgrade.

Why not I mean that would make the Jackson trade look great.

The only reason the Steelers would even consider re-signing Diontae Johnson is if he literally called Mike Tomlin crying, begging and pleading for a second chance.

I’m not kidding and even then, the Steelers probably wouldn’t do it.

What folks don’t seem to understand is that DJ wasn’t jettisoned for his talent. He was sent packing for his attitude and effort.

That shitty attitude and lackadaisical attitude has continued in both Carolina (terrible organization) and Baltimore (excellent organization.)

What in the hell would make anybody believe this dude is finally ready to be humbled and give his all if he was brought back into the fold?

Do not count on this happening.

He also had requested to be traded, didn't he, KC? He was a Tomlin fave, and might meet the conditions you've identified. He may see it, rightfully, as a last chance to resurrect his career. Last time Steelers played in baltimore, he was seen taking one to the house. Bottom line, who would we rather see running pass patterns for the black & gold? Who's more likely to get open? Van Jefferson or Diontae Johnson? Pick him up on Monday, have him ready to go against bungals in the finale anyway, and then for the playoffs

I'm thinking what's more likely to happen though, is that another contender with a worse record (tampa bay) grabs him first

Agreed. It would be nice to see the Steelers pull a reverse LeGarrette Blount this year and bring back DJ to be a key piece of a Super Bowl run, but it seems farfetched. DJ has burnt a lot of bridges the past few years. He'd have to grovel and convince the Tomlin, the FO, and the locker room that he's a changed man, then he'd have to actually be changed. I don't think enough time has passed for that to happen.

We're also not factoring in that DJ is a relic from the Pickett / Canada era and hasn't played with Russell Wilson under the Smith system. There's no guarantee that he could just step in and play like he never left.

I think the chances of DJ coming back are about the same as AB coming in for the playoff run- essentially zero.

I’d bet both AB and DJ could make plays happen

Could the locker room and Tomlin handle them for 5 more games and not be too pissed of Scotty Miller and another 3rd stringer were cut ??

I think winning would keep a lid on things

And at this point it’s lose one game and it’s over anyway

Hell yeah I’d sign AB and DJ just in time for the playoffs

The best player on the team George Pickens agrees with me

I'd take a look at AB before DJ, frankly. AB's old, but I bet he could still get the job done. Plus, most people in the locker room- particularly on offense- didn't overlap with AB so wouldn't have hard feelings against him personally. I'm not sure that's true with DJ.

As a talent upgrade, obviously Johnson would be a fantastic signing.

Don’t you think the Ravens felt that exact way and how did that work out for them? The Ravens seem like a pretty fun place to play. They are always a contender and Lamar, Derrick Henry, Zay Flowers, Mark Andrews, Rashod Bateman and company seem to be having a blast. Harbaugh, as much I personally hate him, is one helluva coach and I can’t name too many malcontents.

Diontae Johnson lasted a week on a team that could end up in the Super Bowl.

What in the hell makes you think all of a sudden Diontae Johnson will become a team player and positive force in the locker room in Pittsburgh? Answer: He won’t.

Don’t get your hopes up for a Steelers/DJ reunion.

It isn’t going to happen.

I doubt it happens either, if for no other reason than a playoff team with a worse record will pick him up. Again, tampa bay. But if he's available for the Steelers, let's not act like this guy has historically been a malcontent. I think he's certainly capable of getting his shit together, under Tomlin, and this kind of shit is Tomlins wheelhouse. He's credited with getting the best outta nutbag AB

They got rid of him because he was a problem. Why would they bring him back?

Dionte has been through 2 teams already this year. He is a walking locker room cancer.

Just because he was a decent player here does not mean he will get his head right. Dionte has imploded worse than AB did.

He definitely was, it just didn't get out in the media. The Steelers were trying to trade him for 2 years. Even tried to pull off a Jalen Ramsey trade in 2023 with DJ involved but couldn't get it done.

There are 30 other teams he would likely sign with before us.

Well, seems like last year, couldn't wait to get him back from injury. He's an excellent route runner...sure as fuck could use his skill set right now

Don't have an answer for that. I DO know that Steelers WR room has been wanting for about 9 months now, and is especially in tough shape presently. This guy has played productively for Mike Tomlin in the past. Sign him up

Not happening. Tomlin was asked about it at todays presser. His response was a very curt ..."I'm not talking about people who are not on this team."

Cut in Houston just now

He be done

Texans waived Diontae Johnson.
Johnson will go down in Texans 3:30 PM CT Wild Card Saturday history as “one player who caught a pass once.” The receiver has been waived three times this year and mercifully, we don’t think there’s another team left that will claim him this year. He finishes the season with a 33/375/3 receiving line in 12 games and will hit the high-risk one-year bin in free agency. Entering his age-29 season, we may have seen the end of Johnson as a fantasy football asset. Certainly NFL teams are telling us that very loudly by their actions this season.
