Bitching About the Past (Another Ben/Rodgers thread)

Post by CKSteeler » Mon Jun 09, 2025 12:13 am

Posted elsewhere, but I think it's worth repeating.

How does old man Rodgers differ from old man Ben? Honestly, old man Ben probably had more flashes of greatness than Rodgers showed last year. This team was eager to force Ben out after his swan song season. They didn't want him back only to sign an aging declined veteran of the same age a few years later after several failed experiments. Kind of disrespectful, no? How do you sell this guy as the savior of your season?

I know people hated Ben in and outside the Steelers fandom so it was fun to rip him, but people don't even like Aaron Rodgers.

Beyond that, I'm just looking for entertainment here and Rodgers is more entertaining than any other option. At least off the field. But please, someone make this shit actually make sense.

Then what other concessions will they make to Rodgers that they didn't give Ben? Does he get to *gasp* override his OC in his final season and actually call his own plays? Ben was neutered for the pride of Matt fucking Canada. Are they going to bring in a scrub like Lazard to appease this guy?

They aren't winning anything this year regardless or anytime in the near future in my view, so who really cares? But if I was Ben, I think you'd have every right to be salty. I'd have much rather watched 42 year old Ben try to play than the shit show that was Kenny Picket/Mitch Trubisky. And while Pickett probably never amounts to anything, I'd rather have my QB of the future learning from a HOF'er than Mitch Trubisky. But no...he had to be forced out. SO we could move onto our ever so bright and entertaining future!

Addendum: I have nothing against Rodgers. Not bitching about the signing in itself. I just laugh at how desperate this organization has become and how stupid their decision making actually is. Let's force out our HOF QB just to fuck around for 3 seasons and then sign a guy just as old as he was to...what? Preserve NHALS? How fucking pathetic is that? How sad is Mediocre Mike at the end of the day?

Ben's arm was shot, plus he made Kent Grahm look like Korky. Well see if father time catches Rogers this year or maybe it already has.

Father time already caught Rodgers last season. Or when he suffered his injury. Just like it did Ben. That's the point.

Regardless, Ben's issue wasn't his arm. It was his knees. Better football minds than my own have made the same remark and I think Ben himself said the same.

It's actually very similar to Rodgers who lost his mobility. The only real hope is that Rodgers will somehow recover from that achilles like a 20 something year old and play like more like his old self.

It still doesn't explain the other stupidity involved with Ben's final years here.

Ben was 39 when he was retired to illustrate your point even more…with the worst Oline known to mankind.

Former Steelers QB lays the blame squarely at the feet of Mike Tomlin for team failings

When an NFL team struggles one year, you can often point to the roster for answers. When an NFL team struggles for a decade, the attention has to point back at the coaching staff. This is the situation the Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves in with head coach Mike Tomlin. Tomlin seems to be impervious to criticism by Steelers ownership despite a laundry list of missteps in hiring and player acquisition.

One former Steelers player who noticed this and didn't hesitate to call Tomlin out for it is Charlie Batch. He went on Unsportsmanlike and didn't hold back about Tomlin's missteps, starting with the hiring of former offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

"He absolutely deserves all of the blame," Batch said Friday. "Why is because he hired Matt Canada. That was a disaster for three years. So now, you're trying to rebuild off of that. You lost the quarterback that you drafted that could possibly fit in the Matt Canada offense with Kenny Pickett."

No matter what happens in Tomlin's career with the Steelers, the debacle of hiring Canada and then dragging out firing him will be one of the things Tomlin is best known for. Tomlin has always been a control freak and needs guys like Canada on the staff who he can control, even if it is at the detriment of the team. Batch also talked about Tomlin's inability to replace Ben Roethlisberger and his inability to develop a young quarterback which makes him content to just signing veterans over and over.

"You had Russell Wilson, Justin Fields last year, but now Aaron Rodgers [is] here," Bath continued. "He understands that's what comes with the territory because Steelers fans have been spoiled because Ben Roethlisberger was at the helm for 18 years."

I thought we had it so good in Pittsburgh though, because of winning and stuff.

Chas is gonna get in trouble talking about the King like that. Can't be allowed.
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."

Exactly these two concessions. I mean we might see occasionally a play called by Smith, but for majority of his stay here Rogers will be playcaller. And we can fully expect trade for Lazard, probably soon.

I think there no chance they expect Aaron Rodgers to do anything but run Art Smith's ridiculous offense andthen make a play on 3rd down.

Always liked Charlie Batch.

Your post is worth repeating. I read it a couple days ago and I still am playing tennis with it in my head.

The offensive offensive line was so bad they thought Ben was so slow and too slow. Their incompetence blinded them to the roller ball snaps, guards and tackles in shopping carts, pockets collapsing like a popped water balloon.

Now they think the line is better and if they just had a QB that would stand and deliver.

To your point they had that all along and could have had Kenny or waited another season before drafting had Tombert not absolutely screwed the pooch with lineman back fills.

It is maddening!

Charlie Batch would probably be a better coach than Tomlin
