Seeing lots of online salivating over Will Howard
Seeing lots of online salivating over Will Howard
Is he really looking that good?
I mean, he's going up against people who will be bagging groceries soon, but he also plays with people who will be doing the same.
But anyone have an honest analysis.
Just like to know how he's doing.

He is new. Is he better than Rudolph? Althleticaly, yes. He needs a season to learn but with these tackles, he might be starting sooner rather than later.

What was the reasoning behind Howard lasting so late into the draft? Arm not big enough? Lack of mobility?
Again the guy had studs at every skill position at OSU but Ryan Day wanted him to be the distributor in the Buckeyes’ offense and Howard looked like he threw the ball well enough to me. All he did was lead OSU to a championship.
He’s a big dude. I don’t get why he lasted so long in the draft.

Did you see him throw at the combine?
Ouch!
Something about him though. He’ll get his chance to compete at some point and then we’ll know more.

Many online people clamoring for him very well may be in no particular order: grocery baggers, Ohio state fans, armchair GM’s, some may even supervise said grocery baggers, wannabe ex high school football players that never went anywhere. I hope the kid develops into the next great late round draft pick. Like his attitude, mindset, size etc. will be stoked if he does. People that are clamoring for him to start and play this season I believe will be let down in a big way.

Let see him in preseason but it be wonderful if he turns out to be our QB and we could use that draft capital elsewhere
Big boy with a BB gun arm.
I think that’s why he went as late as he did.
Guys his size with cannons that went to a major program and won a national championship don’t usually last that long.
Time will tell.
I don’t want another Pop-Gun Pickett though that can’t accurately push the ball downfield.
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.
Honestly I thought Pickett's arm was fine. His problems were slow processing and couldn't read a defense to save his life.
But, yeah, let's hope they don't destroy Howard's confidence with Tomlin's vaccine against risk.
I think Howard was a great pick, where they took him. He'll probably not be a franchise QB, but maybe he can become back-up for the next 3-4 years.

I had him as a 3rd rounder. He was on an elite team. He does not have elite traits. He is more of a pocket passer which might make some teams shy away. I had him as the 2nd best pocket passer in the draft ( behind Ward). Arguments could be said that McCord was there but Howard is better.
He also was not carried by the talent at tOSU. He made the passes when he had to.

Honestly I would be shocked if he had a significantly better career than Rudolph.
Rudolph actually has much better physical tools.

Chalk it up to ‘Camp fluff’ at this point IMO.
How many camps have there been high praises of players only to learn that said ‘camp stud’ falls short.
Patience. There’s still a ways to go for the weeding out process to see who’s still left standing.

People saying Will Howard has a weak arm, are making shit up to fit an agenda-
His arm strength and deep passing game, were part of his upside.
His real NFL level skill set, imo, is his ability to go through his progressions and process what he's seeing. Something Pickett, Fields, and Wilson all struggle with.

I thought his deep ball was one of the worst parts of his game in school. Just wasn't great at leading guys, consistently underthrew his WRs, and overall didn't have great deep ball accuracy including hitting a WR on their inside shoulder vs. outside.
Look, our fans are hopelessly devoted.
We're a team with no present and no future.
So they're going to latch onto any tiny morsel of hope they can salivate over.

What agenda exactly would that be?People saying Will Howard has a weak arm, are making shit up to fit an agenda-
I simply read reports that questioned his arm strength, saw tape of deep balls fluttering, and recognized he lasted till the 6th round.
Given his size and athleticism figured guy must not have a big time arm which caused his drop to 6th round.
Hopefully he can make all the throws.

Obviously this is a highlight tape and it doesn't show Howard's weaknesses, but he was only at OSU one year and we know how that season ended.955876 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 6:40 pmWhat agenda exactly would that be?People saying Will Howard has a weak arm, are making shit up to fit an agenda-

He throws some beautiful deep balls at the end of the video but most impressive to me is Howard's ability to process quickly AND his athleticism looks to me to be extremely underrated, especially for a pretty big dude.
Dude probably isn't the most accurate deep ball thrower by any means, but to me it looks like he has enough arm to make all the throws. We'll see soon enough.

Tom Brady had a pretty awful deep ball early in his career. He worked on it.
The deep ball is timing. If you've got the arm, you can improve touch and accuracy.
Ya but Tom Brady didn’t play under Jibba Jabber. Where talent turns sour faster than a cut open avocado.

I don’t have anything against the kid. Just don’t want a big dude with a small arm.
If that isn’t the case then awesome.

I’m not sure what the agenda would be, other than “this team sucks” which you know I’m all about - anything that discredits Tomlin955876 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 6:40 pmWhat agenda exactly would that be?People saying Will Howard has a weak arm, are making shit up to fit an agenda-

but Will Howard and weak arm, should not be in the same sentence
I think he dropped to the sixth because of his performance leading up to the draft, and i suppose the quality of the players he was playing with.
I’m not sure
But in the scope of, what makes a QB succeed at the nfl level
I’d put going through reads and processing information, pretty much at the top
If you want a real example- Brock Purdy v Kenny Pickett
He does not have a small arm like the Red Rider Andy Dalton. He has an average arm. He throws with anticipation, not waiting until the WR is open.955876 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 9:36 pmI hope so. Certainly true.If they can get a decent backup QB in the 6th round then bonus.
Problem is, he’ll end up our started after Jibbs goes all in on the Devin Bush of QBs next April.

Who knows if he’s anything more than a career back up. One thing I do know, he’s a real easy kid to root for.
Agree. As I said earlier, we are due some luck at the QB position.Charles Demarr wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 12:04 amWho knows if he’s anything more than a career back up. One thing I do know, he’s a real easy kid to root for.

the yinzer pronunciation of his name is pretty funny
He kind of looks like a chubby nerd that kind of got stretched out to be a QB.Charles Demarr wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 12:04 amOne thing I do know, he’s a real easy kid to root for.
Too soft of a face. Small head. Not a real athletic body type.
Probably gets sloshy drunk way too easily and annoys his friends who constantly have to babysit him.
If he's good, I'll root for him, but I'll never love him.
