Interesting stat to start Jets week! Listed as a fatal flaw. He has a bunch as of late, not just this one.

I think this has more to do with the times having passed him by and a lot of these coaches were (just guessing) offensive minds. Tomlin is also kind of lazy. He does what he does. He watches the previous four games of film and calls it a day (going based on his own comments on the subject).

And the drafts and/or development of drafts start getting really very bad to middling, 2025 excluded while waiting for bouquet to develop.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 4:56 amI think this has more to do with the times having passed him by and a lot of these coaches were (just guessing) offensive minds. Yikes Colbert
The Pickett and Devin Bush drafts alone would’ve sank your average ship
NHALS is Tomlins superpower

Nick Markakis on Astros: "Every guy over there needs a beating."
They're also hungry and have limited time to build a championship caliber team. They approach every game like most other coaches not-named Tomlin approach the playoffs.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 4:56 amI think this has more to do with the times having passed him by and a lot of these coaches were (just guessing) offensive minds. Tomlin may have some new defensive wrinkles this year, but you pretty much know what to expect on offense. And, in either case, you know he's going to give you the first quarter or two to take free shots while PIT "eases in" and "probes".
A new wrinkle on defense that will be figured out by week 8 and then he'll never adapt after that as offenses begin to carve his unit up.

I don’t measure Jibbs against metrics such as this. Just happy as hell he is our coach.
Who else could we possibly get to replace him?

Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

I wonder what his record is on season openers?
My memory is fading and I tend to forget the negatives. But I think he is pretty good on opening days.
I do recall a couple of seasons he dug a hole and they were constantly trying to get to 500 to eventually get to NHALS.
And a couple of seasons he was gang busters only to fade in the end.
This season seems different.
Most of the starters didn't get to play in preseason. And I think the lack of preparation will come back to bite them. I don't think you can just flip a switch and expect to be in top form.
But maybe they have enough skills to win on the road this Sunday.

Secure NHALS early and then go deep into the PLAYOFFS.

Damn that is laughable... well I guess if you are a fan of a different team

I just looked it up. Tomlin is 10-6-1 on opening days.

If he can hang around for 4 more straight opening day losses, he can retire after with the perfect NHALS opening day record at 10-10-1.Texas Black & Gold wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 8:32 pmI just looked it up. Tomlin is 10-6-1 on opening days.

He already has NHALS. Why not retire at 14-6-1?Ice wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 9:56 pmIf he can hang around for 4 more straight opening day losses, he can retire after with the perfect NHALS opening day record at 10-10-1.Texas Black & Gold wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 8:32 pmI just looked it up. I think the defense mainly gets worn down by having to be perfect all year to keep them in games. Also, they barely rotate in depth. Put that all together and... WYSIWYG.

Long over.
I used to have this list in a file... I stopped keeping track of it when he had 5 or 6 losses in a row. I am not surprised the streak is still alive, but I’m amazed that Teflon Tomlin still has such a stellar reputation.
Everywhere you look, you find evidence of his mediocrity.
I can’t remember the last rookie HC he beat.
Mike Tomlin and NHALS - The embodiment of the soft bigotry of lowered expectations.
