Week 1’s Tough Reads - Defense

Week 1 is a tough time to get a read on a team because theres nothing to compare them to.

The above is the only reason why I wont freak out about giving up 400 yards and 32 points to Justin Fields and the vaunted Jet’s offense.

However I dont know which is worse: Field’s being that good or our defense being that weak.

Jalen Ramsay - Thank you for taking your game to another level in the 4th quarter - especially after losing two DBs.

Aaron Rodgers - Thank you for consistently finding long range passing targets in this offensive scheme.

This game shows how good (and Smart) Rodgers really is - even at his advanced age, he made our offense look dangerous.

The thing that concerns me is that we added a lot to the D in the offseason and they still got bulldozed on the ground.

Very happy with the win. Just hoped for a better showing by the D.

Definitely an entertaining win

RoDgers is just awesome to watch

Too bad the Steelers ground game sucks because in his prime RoDgers was a play action wizard

But ill own being a dolt i guess since i watched what i THOUGHT was a team with A LOT of flaws
Chief among them the offensive tackles and a leaky defense

I would’ve made Pat Meyer and Teryl Austin walk home
They SUCK at their jobs

As I’ve said, countless times, the issue with this defense is predominantly the scheme

Everybody knows exactly what the fuck the Steelers are going to run, with almost no exception

Today they ran a lot of man coverages and flip-flopped Watt and Hightower, but other than that, it looked essentially the same as everything we see we we out for almost 2 decades

The only significant changes they made was that last possession against the Jets when they had to pass the ball

On that drive they brought extra men and blitzed from the inside

Pretty much every other drive was playing not to lose

Yahyah Black needs ALL of Loudermilks snaps

Harmon and Herbig were out, hopefully back soon

REALLY hope that Elliott is ok, best dude in the secondary last year for sure…

The problem is, he also needs Benton's snaps. Loudermilk is not an NFL player, Harmon isn't a run defending NT, and Black is a rookie who probably isn't strong enough right now to win vs battle-tested Gs. And Cam Heyward was All-Pro last year and No-Show in the last two games he's played.

Fully Agree Black should be seeing any/all loudersucks reps but not just at DE.

I hope they have come to the conclusion that all these DLinemen are inner changeable along the line.

I heard someone yesterday throw out the idea to move $cam inside now that he’s longer in the tooth. He titty fights good enough.

Like to see other line men given more reps too. Lee and Otomewo deserve some of those $cam reps as he will be sidelined seeking oxygen.

I agree with the Elliott comment as well. Although I’d say Echols is proving his roster value especially in light of the injury bug in the DB room.

Actually Dolts dont even take the time to read the whole post and comment knee jerk reactions.

Edit- But seriously, thank you for your thorough commentary and the value you’ve added to this thread.

Everybody gets to scroll by your insightful comment first, then they have to read later comments with lots of words and thoughts and stuff.. so boring. 😂

I agree and would state, the Steelers scouting department suck Gorilla balls and desperately, are in need of an overhaul. Nothing but nepotistic hires and mainstays that likely, make for shitty scouts.

Why do people act like Austin is running this defense? He doesn't even call the plays. I'm sure he has input on scheme and things during the week and presumably does something, but this is Tomlin's defense. He's also the one who signed off on bringing in the talent and obviously more say in roster construction than Austin ever will.

Austin is only there to be a scapegoat. That's it. And when people blame him for the defensive woes, that's exactly what Coach Teflon Mike wants.

If Austin goes, then so should Tomlin.

This is Tomlin's vision for the defense.

Here's another one. Juan Thornhill says about Fields "We might not have been prepared."

...not prepared for a quarterback that used to be a member of the team??

Tomlin and Austin are two heads of the same retarded beast.

Well obviously since he played here last year, it meant a week off on the QB preparation side. We had it covered.
