Well I have said this before, but if we are going to have a step change performance in offensive output, it will hit us right in the face in the first or second week.
The last several seasons, we are what we were, offensively, almost immediately out of the gate...with the sub twenty point performances, and some outliers here and there, but in the end it was almost always awful offensive points output performances, to put us closer to the bottom of the league in points per game, hovering around the twenty points mark the last several seasons.
So if this wasn't an anomaly outlier event, we could be in a step change environment for the offensive output. For us to get 34 points in the first game is a pretty big indicator that something has changed for the better. We all know what to expect from MT, so for this to happen in the first week, it is a pretty big Ron Burgundy deal!
There is however the touchback rule change, and what it does for scoring output. The league will get an offensive output increase due to the change. starting at the 35 yardline, teams will score 53% of the time if the NFL article was to be believed. but that is only a couple points. There was also the KR fumble recovery deep inside the Jets territory.
So hold on to your hats...we might be in a paradigm shift this year.
Outlier or Step Change event for the offense??
