How in TF do the Steelers have a 6’7 TE that can catch but has only been targeted 4 times in 4 games. Make it make sense.
Because he's a tackle playing TE? You can't get open if you move like you're feet are made of concrete.Works At A Bank wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 8:56 pmHow in TF do the Steelers have a 6’7 TE that can catch but has only been targeted 4 times in 4 games. Make it make sense.

I guess on the positive side, the Steelers are 3-1 and have got very little from Outlier, Fry Daddy, Kaleb Johnson and Roman Wilson.
Any word on Calvin Austin? Don't like he left the game and didn't return.

Then utilize him in the RZ and short yardage. Literally only have to toss it up in the air for him. I haven’t heard anything about Austin and what is wrong with Roman Wilson? Is it a player thing or a coaching thing? Why did the Steelers even draft him?K_C_ wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 9:07 pmit's ridiculous and Freiermuth literally looks like he's checked out.Works At A Bank wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 8:56 pmHow in TF do the Steelers have a 6’7 TE that can catch but has only been targeted 4 times in 4 games. Pat Friermuth has 7 receptions for 65 yards after 4 games, and he's getting paid $12 million for it. At least Darnell is contributing in the blocking game.
Friermuth over Humphrey was one of the Steeler's unsung big draft mistakes of recent years. Thankfully Frazier seems to be a stud, but Muth has been a big disappointment.

I honestly don't know what is wrong with Roman Wilson, but they are uncomfortable with him being on the field unless it's a running play. He's small but a very willing blocker. You can set your watch by the Steelers running the ball when Wilson is on the field which is rarely.
I honestly don't know what in the fuck they are doing with Wilson but at least he came up with that big on side kick recovery.

The outside protectors job is to block HIS INSIDE GAP. Do you idiots not know this? The outside rusher should never get there unless the snap and hold are slow as shit. You're wrong about this. He looks slow because he's huge. Everyone thinks big guys are slow and or lazy but then you realize how much ground they cover. Malkin in his prime or Ben are examples of this that should be familiar.tbsteel wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 9:06 pmBecause he's a tackle playing TE? kicks get blocked by outside rushers all the fucking time, but you're telling me the outside protector's job is to just say; "good luck, I'm not going to touch you."
Seems dumber than fuck, actually.
Snap and hold seemed just fine. Kick wasn't low.

Sorry, I find it hard to believe Freiermuth isn't to blame for allowing that blocked kick.

Does he have quick feet for a guy his size? It's fine I suppose. But who is he running away and separating from?
26 catches in 37 games coming into today. He averages 7 yards receiving a game.
He has a role on this team. Blocking and the occasional gimmick jump ball or leak out. Will he have more than 25 catches this year? Doubtful.

Because it’s the Steelers. Bigger question is why did they just make Freiermuth the 9th highest paid TE in the league then trade for Jonnu Smith and cut Muth’s reps to that of basically a #3 WR. Washington is TE1 now because he’s an extra tackle.Works At A Bank wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 8:56 pmHow in TF do the Steelers have a 6’7 TE that can catch but has only been targeted 4 times in 4 games. 0 targets today for Pat and he wasn’t the TE with the most snaps on the team for the 2nd or 3rd time in four games. This team misuses talent like no other.

My college best friend and teammate is a special teams coach for an SEC team. We talked about this at the beginning of the season because he is coaching a kicker that I coached in rec football. There is no way an outside rusher should get home unless there is a fuckup on the snap or hold. I’ll tell him you said he is wrong.K_C_ wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 10:33 pmLet me get this straight......Baltostiller wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 10:23 pmThe outside protectors job is to block HIS INSIDE GAP. Minkah Fitzpatrick blocked kicks with the Steelers rushing from the outside (both field goals and extra points.)
I’m not saying your friend is wrong but the idea outside rushers (who are often fast as fuck) should be unblocked at all times is idiotic.

He's not being utilized at anywhere near 100%. They rarely give him a leveraged route, don't do anything to get him the ball even when he's open. He catches the ball and falls forward for 7 yards. He's a weapon that is easy money, and you can see it in even the very limited way he was used today: more than usual.tbsteel wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 10:36 pmI mean, fair point re: body vs. feet, but he is incredibly slow and has no burst.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 10:27 pmYou're wrong about this. I'm not talking about Muth's blocking on that FG. I am talking about his overall mediocre at best blocking. Washington is a better blocker, Jonnu is a better receiver. I didn't like the Steelers giving Muth that extension at the time and I like it even less now. He's basically replacement level.Baltostiller wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 10:23 pmThe outside protectors job is to block HIS INSIDE GAP. Do you idiots not know this? I read CAIII left in an ambulance.
Mentioned it could be broken Collarbone.
I’ll agree. Just a guess. I Was thinking ambulance ride was weird maybe dislocated shoulder but he’s so little and the injury seems like it would be collarbone watching the tackle vs dislocation.

Mooth was basically TE #3 today...
Or #4 with all the Tackle eligible sets.
Snaps.
Darnell Washington: 48
Spencer Anderson: 19 (Jumbo)
Connor Heyward: 16
Pat Freiermuth: 15
Jonnu Smith: 13
Not much opportunity for Mooth
Of his 16 snaps...
Wondef how many were run plays?
Half?

Snap counts of note from today.
Darnell Washington 48!
Spencer Anderson 19
Ben Skowronek 18
Connor Heyward 16
Pat Freiermuth 15
Jonuu Smith 13
Roman Wilson 3
Basically our Te snaps for Muth and Smith were replaced by extra Tackles (Washington and Anderson) or other blocker (Skowronek or Heyward)
The run game was effective so we can’t bitch about it too much, but paying top dollar for two TEs you don’t use is just dumb,

How Heyward is getting 16 snaps is unfathomable.
He is such an ineffective blocker.
Seen him either miss his assignment on one play and get blown 4 yards back on the last TD run.
He. Was also lined up wide inside the 10.
Madness

Are you too young to remember Eric Green? How about the Giants short-time sensation Larry Donnell? And those 4th down red zone calls should be a fade to Washington. You could tell the defense they are going to throw it and they would have a hard time stopping it.

Running the ball. Anderson got more snaps than Smith. Heyward is being used as the FB and does...ok

And Green was playing 35 years ago. If Darnell had been around back in the early 90s, maybe he would have dominated like that. Hard to say. But the guys playing now are a hell of a lot faster, stronger, and more athletic. Would Levon Kirkland be able to play ILB in today's NFL anywhere near the level he played at in his day? Doubtful.
Darnell lumbers in everything he does. If he can't make a mark with Rodgers as his QB, I don't know, excuse time is kind of over at that point. So far, he's been a gimmick receiver and a damn good blocker. I think we missed the opportunity to make him a tackle. Would be much more valuable for us than 200 receiving yards a year or whatever he'll end up.

And didn’t Jibba Jabber say “there is more than one way to skin a cat” when asked why we went TE instead of addressing the clear need at oline and especially C given Ben’s advanced age?
Him trying to imply having weapons in the passing games takes pressure off the oline.
Well ya it can I suppose. . But you also have to use them that way.
What the fuck is the plan for our $50,000,000 tight end?
This team is so stupid right now.

Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 81 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.
