Will the Franklin-PSU fallout finally wake up Steeler Nation?
I find the parallels between James Franklin and Mike Tomlin remarkable.
Here is Todd McShay, struggling to find the words to describe the PSU dilemma:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AVsljh7CwVE
If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear he was talking about Tomlin, especially the comments about Franklin’s press conference babble.
McShay also discusses the questions being asked about what the standard is now at Penn State, because some fans just don’t want to give up those 9-10 wins.
He thinks the standard should be National Championships. PSU fans seem content with 10 wins.
Sounds familiar.
He criticizes the leadership at Penn State, and he points at Franklin. Some of us say the same problem exists with the Steelers and the issue is Tomlin.
Being a Steelers fan and a PSU football fan must be Hell. You are stuck in perpetual disappointment and the knowledge that your coach will never win the championship, but heaven forbid you move on from your security blanket head coach.
I went on a couple of PSU message boards this morning and the threads are carbon copies of Steeler/Tomlin threads.
Every “Fire Franklin” comment is followed by “But who would you hire to replace him”? and “he’s a great recruiter!”
James Franklin is the NCAA version of Mike Tomlin.
The best part? Franklin has a $56 million buyout. He’s not going anywhere either.

I've always said...Franklin is more tomlin than Tomlin.CoolShades wrote: ↑Sun Oct 05, 2025 2:45 pmI find the parallels between James Franklin and Mike Tomlin remarkable.

James Franklin makes Mike Tomlin look like a genius.
The playcalling and clock management to end both halves was off the charts abysmal.
Now part of that is the coaches obviously now know that Drew Allar cannot be trusted to make a big play for them when it's needed.
But holy hell I don't think I've even seen Tomlin fuck up clock management the way Franklin did to end the first half yesterday.

franklin would be fired but for that contract and its buy-out
my son attends PSU now -- alumni and students at least are done with him

I live in SO Cal and root for the Bruins and Boy-O-Boy that was CRAZY
It gets a whole lot WORSE. UCLA fired their HC 2 weeks ago, the DC & OC quit within the last week. They promoted the TE coach to be OC (he's Never called plays) and they made an Analyst the HC (he's Never done anything like this). They are both young and was their 1st time doing any of this. They did bring some new plays.
Chew on that. James Franklin lost to 2 no name coaches who never coached this way and a UCLA team that was 0-4 and looked Terrible. KInda like when Jibba lost to the Stains (at home in PO's) while their HC was coaching in his basement and they also had 3rd stringers on the O-Line that Scam (the Fraud like his HC) couldn't dominate and get to Baker
Nico Iamaleav is an actual good QB.

Obliteration Is Imminent
maybe good lesson in ... most of these "big-time" coaches are just tools who perfected the Coach Voice and are full of shit
Franklin is whay I wanted Allar to go to another school to learn to be a QB.
