Broncos 4th quarter or Ohtani's Game 4?
Which was the more otherwordly sports accomplishment?
I can't recall anything even close to either one.

Not sure they’re comparable. Individual v. team accomplishment. For me, Denver more enjoyment and suspense. Ohtani more “unbelievable”.

Ohtani's. By 46 country miles.
Denver was playing against a rookie QB who played great for much of the game but made a massive mistake at the worst time (which rookies are known to do) and a replacement kicker missed 2 extra points (THAT motherfucker is getting cut today. Probably shouldn't even have bothered to shower. Should have simply got in his car and drove home.)
Ohtani put together a game that only Babe Ruth might have been able to equal and I don't think he ever hit 3 home runs in a postseason game while also striking out 10 batters.
That's the greatest single game performance in baseball history.

Rick Wise, Phillies at the time, in 1971 threw a no hitter and hit 2 homeruns against the Reds. It wasn’t the playoffs, but I don’t know if Ohtani’s game had as much pressure as throwing a no hitter does.
I think there are a few other baseball feats. But Ohtani is on the short list, and 3 dingers makes it unique.

Also….it is baseball someone has usually already done it.
Most of the great batting efforts by pitchers of the past revolve around home runs. Only two hurlers ever hit three homers in a game. Most of us remember when Big Jim Tobin did it for the Boston Braves on May 13, 1942. He had to provide his own batting support to win 6-5. The other one was an oldtimer, Guy Hacker of Louisville in the old American Association in 1886. He also had three singles in seven trips, and also scored seven runs in a very high-scoring game against Baltimore. The seven runs in a game is still an all-time record and he also is the only pitcher to collect six hits in a game. His case was a little different in that he was almost a full-time player, filling in at first or in the outfield when he wasn’t pitching. In fact, he had enough at bats in 1886 to qualify for and win the AA batting title with a .341 mark. He edged out teammate Pete Browning by one point, according to the Macmillan Encyclopedia.

Ruth pitched in three WS games and didn't homer for the Red Sox.
I think it's Ohtani but Nix putting up those numbers in a quarter to win is still insane.

GREAT weekend of sports
*Georgia’s “Hard to Kill” mantra outlasting “Ole Piss”
*GA Tech QB Haynes King rushing for 120 against Duke. Kid is literally carrying GA Tech through their undefeated season.
*Diego Pavia is one tough ‘sum bitch. If that dude doesn’t win the Heisman do away with the award.
*Jaxson Dart’s “juice” and level of give a damn is like nothing I’ve ever seen.
*Football needs another Bill Parcells. Comping Cam Skattebo to Rocky Bleier shows generational football knowledge.
*Nick Saban field at Bryant Denney Stadium covered in Cigar smoke. The look on Vols fans after the pick 6 to close out the first half is what separates college ball from the pros. It just means more.
*None of that REMOTELY compares to Ohtani’s 3 HR/10K performance clinching the Dodgers entry into the World Series on Friday night. Dude is Michael Jordan/Tiger Woods GREAT.

Curry College RB Montie Quinn rushed for 522 yards (WHAT?) on 20 carries and scored 7 TDs. 5 TDs runs > 50 yards, 2 > 80. And, he sat out the final two drives of the game! Yes, it was division 3, but wow, still incredible.

As a lifelong Dodgers fan, definitely Ohtani. Hopefully this wakes him up. Mariners or Bluejays are gonna get smashed. Not enough arms. Brewers are good and they just got shutdown. 10 strikeouts to boot. Dude is on another level.

Well, it's the stakes obviously that make what Ohtani did a significantly more important achievement than what Rick Wise did.LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 11:24 amRick Wise, Phillies at the time, in 1971 threw a no hitter and hit 2 homeruns against the Reds. I mean, did the Phillies even make the playoffs that year? I know the Pirates won the World Series and I don't remember the Phillies in the postseason that year.
The Pirates faced an Orioles staff that boasted 4, count 'em, 4 20 game winners and won that series. THAT is an incredible team achievement right there.
Ohtani was in a closeout game to literally win the national league against one helluva Brewers team who easily won their division despite the Cubs having a great year too.
What Rick Wise did was special. What Ohtani did was Babe Ruth level shit.

Hang on, I just looked it up:
The 1971 Philadelphia Phillies season was the 89th season for the franchise in Philadelphia. The Phillies finished in sixth place in the National League East, with a record of 67–95 thirty games behind the first place Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 81 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.
Watching the end of the game, I told my wife that the Giants should have gone for two to force the Broncos to score a TD at the end.K_C_ wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 11:09 amOhtani's. By 46 country miles.

She asked if I was nuts. I replied that no, their kicker was a replacement who had already missed an extra point and looked shaky, and when you're a bad team that almost pissed away a big lead, you should take a risk at the end of the game. Who cares if you fail...your season's not going anywhere anyway.
Looks like I was right to have said what i said.

I do agree, but was on a Reddit post and there were some good arguments, and of course it went across different sports. Was a good thread. By the way it is on the short list of feats across all of sport too in my opinion….but the baseball nuts will make good arguments.
I had also brought up Deion Sander taking a helicopter from ML to NFL or vice versa…someone else fill in the details. But that was pretty spectacular in hindsight sight.
The last game I watched of Ohtani’s he was still on the 5 inning pitch count, had to be one of the last games of the season.
I was half asleep and the blurb on my AppleTv popped up about seeing if Ohtani’s could hold off….something alluding to the pitching. I didn’t tune in and completely forgot about the hitting part. I was so mad in the morning.
When you hear other baseball greats get befuddled by the preparation that goes into being Ohtani, it doesn’t compute for them….and apparently his preparation and practice must be other worldly at least is the feeling I took away watching the post game commentary after the game.
Also the homers last year by FF was pretty other worldly too. They kept showing his joy as Ohtani kept hitting the dingers. That put it into perspective too.

What Ohtani did will never be repeated, because Pitchers don’t hit anymore and even when they did they weren’t hitting 3 home runs in a playoff game, combined with 6 shutout innings to close out the NLCS. That’s the best single game MLB performance in history.
Ohtani is like Babe Ruth in that he is more effective as a hitter, playing every game. But his pitching ability is still amazing. He is also the first player to crack 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season.

New Yorkers will insist Reggie Jackson's three HR game was better even though he did not pitch because he did it in New York.
