How badly did Mason suck??

Dunno if this link will go through, but Cris Carter of PG has some excellent analysis.

The only suck in my Mind is not throwing to middle

We have this problem now for years

When we do take one or 2 throws to middle it’s tight end catch

So to me it’s yea coaching scheme gameplan

Imagine placing any blame on a backup journeyman QB when you have the highest paid defense in the history of football and a HC who is a defensive specialist that gave up 30 points yet again. The only blame with this franchise lies squarely on Tomlin and Rooney for not removing him years ago.,

Middle of the field is schemed open all the time for the TEs and WRs.

Unfortunately, the Tomlin virtual shock collars go off on the QBs and OCs for some reason when the plays get called or discussed.

Chris Carter is a notorious Tomlin defender.

It’s not working any more, Chris.

Multiple things can be true at the same time. The defensive performance is unacceptable, and Rudolph played like shit and left meat on the bone there.

Overall, the offense produced enough points to where the game should have been won with the highest paid defense in the league and a defensive coach who wants to win games 13-12.

Big Mason fan here and he was awful against the Bears.

Awful. Missed deep on pretty much every throw and missed a wide open Roman Wilson down the sideline by THROWING THE BALL OUT OF BOUNDS.

That might be the worst Mason performance I've seen since @bradshaw2ben and I watched a Steelers vs Browns game (I think it was the game where Garrett ripped Mason's helmet off at the end and beat him with it) together and the Steelers got blown out.

Amazingly, Mason still had a chance to win the Bears game and if it wasn't for that illegal formation penalty, the game very, very likely (at the very least) goes to overtime.

A guy who was thrown in the starting spot after bouncing around the league with no success and ended back on the Steelers behind the oldest QB in the league is the sole issue here?

GTFO. The levels of ass sucking that happen over Tomlin are insane.

I'm not even convinced of the argument in that article that Rudolph was supposed to be looking where Carter says on those plays. The lack of deep passes of the middle, as he himself notes, is a long term trend. So yea a guy gets open deep over the middle and Rudolph is of course looking outside the numbers for the deep ball because that was probably where the coaches wanted him to be looking.

As soon as Rudolph started playing the offensive "schematics" changed markedly.
