All we needed to be successful was..
Another Hall of Fame QB. This time we needed a generational version.
One whose proven to me this season that he is in another realm of special. He had nothing - I repeat Nothing - to work with. Outside of the overthrow in the First half he was throwing to guys who were blanketed (and many of those throws were still excellent).
He wasnt perfect, but jeez look what he had to throw to, while playing a winner take all game against the sworn enemy.
He reads a field better than any QB I've seen. He can spot a window well before it opens and then put a dart right into it.
I hate to be that guy, but this team had no business making the playoffs based our offensive and defensive coaching, schemes, and personnel. It's the same offense we ran the past 4 years, and we saw that once Rodgers was hurt. (which luckily wasnt long, and props to the dude for playing with a broken arm.)
I'd go as far as to say when the offense was being run by the coaches it was borderline putrid. AR had to take the reigns, run no huddle, and put the entire team and coaching staff on his shoulders to carry us, (one-armed) into the playoffs.
I'm a Steeler fan and I have to root for them to win in the Playoffs. But its the most conflicted I've been as a fan, because I know that without a generational QB we're an average team (at best) and our generational QB is 42, so he's not going to be around too long. There's nothing bright at the end of the tunnel while Tomlin is here.
So on one hand, Go Steelers. On the other hand, convince Rodgers to stay for another season so we have something to look forward to next year.

Jones getting hurt was the best thing to happen to this team as well.
Maybe even JT the Jogger.

I agree with this and add the very fortunate for us second part.
Jones being subpar and unable to play opened the door for a surprise diamond in the rough player Cook.
Obviously this isn’t the same discussion if Jones’ replacement was equal or worse than his capabilities.
Cook has come in from the bench and made a strong case to continue as starter once Jones returns from injury (if he does).
TJ picked up where he left off IMO.

Truly epic "backing in" to the playoffs. Win the division and host a playoff game because a kicker misses a 44-yd FG in a game your team really didn't want to win.

Knowing and understanding the Tomlin offensive philosphy of safe at all costs ...until desperation sinks in.
Knowing the "U" shaped concept, the behind the line passes, the 3rd down catch and pray for the RB to weave in and out of 2 or 3 guys, or make 2 guys miss and lunge for a first plays.
Knowing the lack of skill play makers in the WR and TE room. I bet 80% of NFL fans would not be able to name the Steelers top 3 WRs going into that game.
Rodgers threw for the fewest yards in a season in which he played at least 10 games.
We did not have a 1,000 yard back.
We did not use a 3rd RB the last quarter of the season as our 3rd did not get a helmet in week 18.
We did not have a 1,000 yard receiver.
Nobody caught more than 73 pases....only two guys caught 50+ balls
Our 2nd and 3rd leading recievers had less than 500 yards.
Think about the philosphy and game plan of this offense.
A RB led the team in receptions.
Throwing short of the sticks on 3rd downs.
The 69 straight games with 7 or less in the first.....
and actually 95 straight with the offense as the reason they scored more than 7.
The 10 vs 11 Brotherly Shove 4th and 2 concept...... in which no announcer mentions we are playing 10 vs 11........while they fawn over the Brothers Heyward or marvel at how AA smugly just stands 7 yards back and watches............"Hello" ( in Herm Edwards voice ) we are playing 10 on 11.
Knowing we almost always use our time outs when we should not.....
and we use our time outs because of communucation issues or we can not decide on the play call........on the biggest downs and distances in crunch time...............18 games into the season
Knowing we go them on the ropes.......we go from catching the defense switching personel.....in which we can snap the ball when they are not ready, or catch them with too many men on the field, or needing to burn a defensive time out........to resulting in "US" bruning that time out.
What a clusterfuck of an offense.
So yeah Rodgers has dragged this team and coaching staff to the playoffs.

If he has protection and time, there is none with greater vision and touch than Rodgers.
He could toss it into a moving laundry basket at 40 yards without a problem.
GB should have won more titles in the teens, but that D was a mess.

The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.

You're not wrong, but our own kicker who is likely going to be a Hall of Famer and had made 90 extra points in a row, missed one to give that Ravens kicker the chance to win that game for the Ravens.
....and let's not forget, that Ravens kicker was a fucking rookie.
When your season depends on the leg of a rookie kicker, you very, very possibly might be fucked.

It was awesome seeing Rodgers screaming at Arthur and not GAF about it.

Thanks for putting all of those numbers together. It really highlights what a unique QB season we had.
On paper we look like a 4-5 win team. This may go down as one of the most underrated seasons by a QB in the NFL.

That was by design. The Tomlin Steelers only want an offense that burns clock and doesn't turn it over. That's why all the money is spent on D. Tomlin was convinced in 2019 that he had a Super Bowl winning formula like the 2000 Ravens and has been chasing it ever since. It won't work because 1. His defenses aren't as good as the 2000 Ravens and 2. The rules have changed too much to disfavor defense.the-other-burg wrote: ↑Mon Jan 05, 2026 4:36 pmStosh-67 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 05, 2026 3:36 pmgreat comments and thoughts.the-other-burg wrote: ↑Mon Jan 05, 2026 2:21 pmAnother Hall of Fame QB. But because Tomlin thinks he can win a Super Bowl with a QB a little better than Duck thanks to his awesome defense, we're stuck in this loop.
