Seriously...do any of them want to do any work in analyzing Mike Tomlin's career?
PS Yes it is quite possible the next head coach sucks. Change is risky, but never let that drive a decision to stick with mediocrity.

I mean, you basically summed it up. The Steelers were spinning their tires and they were about to give out, anyway. Next year will probably be a losing season especially if they start tearing things down which is what should have happened a long time ago. Tomlin delayed this franchise's progress far, far more than Roethlisberger ever did and the funniest part is that Tomlin resorted to turning to aging QB's who were on par (Rodgers) or worse than fat old man Ben in his final seasons to preserve NHALS for Mediocre Mike.
Tomlin inherited a very well run franchise. Coordinators and ready-made roster. He's leaving a fucking shits show littered with bad contracts and aging vets being the only real "stars" left there. The saving grace is they have some cap space still due to it going up and their lack of QB to go along with a lot of draft picks to at a minimum maneuver.
There will be heat on the new coach and a lot of former players turned pundits who will attack the new guy when he struggles at first. But hopefully if the new guy is worth anything he will peel off all the band-aids and rebuild this thing into something that has a chance to actually contend.

be careful what you wish for...
says every sports "pundit" who hasn't figured out that mediocrity is perpetual hell
Ignore them next year when we lose 12 games, the first year record of a rebuild doesn't matter esp when you're not drafting early

The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.

I'm thinking- Greeny, you're a Jets fan, so mediocrity must look like championship-caliber to you.

They’re all creaming in their pants having a total no brainer to talk about. Really, I saw a few minutes of sports tv and the heads were absolutely giddy
The only thing I'll say is that we have to be careful with the whole rebuild thing. I want them to be patient and let a new coach execute his vision (it'd be great if he came with a new GM - let's get a real new approach to all this), but we have seen a lot of teams turn it all around in off-season over the years no matter how improbable it seems. It you make the right decisions it's entirely possible no matter how bleak things look. No team is really ever years away and I've been talking about how bad this roster is as much as anyone.

I'm not a big Cowherd guy but he's had Tomlin pegged for at least 10 years and he's been consistent. He always gets so much shit for his accurate takes.jeemie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 1:14 am..."Be careful what you wish for, Steeler fans".

"Work harder not smarter" - Mike Tomlin
Here was my one response to one of these guys.
The sports pundits had been fond of saying "If the Steelers let Mike Tomlin go, he'll have a job within minutes. That's how good he is".
Well we are about to find out.
There is of course a catch.
Anyone that wants Tomlin before 2028 has to compensate the Steelers since they hold his rights. So it will cost them.
But since he's such a great coach, teams won't think twice about doing that, right?
We are about to find out what NFL owners really think of Mike Tomlin, aren't we?
