I honestly don't think Tomlin will ever coach a team again. He will be completely exposed for the dufus he is and it will be a wake up call that the dude was never really any good - he just always got bailed out by Ben most years and got really lucky the others. It's difficult to fix dumb and lazy!

He will never coach again. Partly because he’s done it all, and also partly because he realized his style no longer wins and he was a letdown to his players. Even Ronde Barber said he is not coming back.

Yeah, I think when you spend that long at an organization, the thought of going somewhere else isn’t really all that attractive.

Especially when you’ve already made $100M in career earnings and now has kids participating in college sports.

If Tomlin wanted to coach again, he’d find a job. Not because he’s some amazing coach, but because teams are dumb and can’t help themselves.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the rumors of him picking up a TV job were true, though. It’d be something to keep him busy while staying involved with football, while still giving him the free time to spend with family. It makes sense.

Stick a fork in him; he's done.

If he goes somewhere else and [inevitably] flops, it puts his HOF chances in serious jeopardy.

No coaching tree tells you exactly what teams think of Tomlin. Hiring coaches is maybe the most important job of a HC. Tomlin has failed at one of the most important aspects of leadership.

And I don't think it was ego or fear - look at the slew of former HCs in Lebeau, Haley, Munchak, Flores, Smith...even Arians went on to be a HC.

PIT was where coaches go to die. If you were young and innovative, you'd never coach for conservative, checker-playing Tomlin. Even setting aside the game-day dumbfuckery and apparent "laziness", you can't win with shitty assistant coaches. And Tomlin proved that.

Tomlin is a fraud, and that has value for people who don't know better. But this narrative of Tomlin being a good/great coach has to end. How much more evidence do you need? Mediocre. At best.

I mean, according to the Rich Eisens of sports media people not beating down the door to hire Tomin for 50 M a year would be like suddenly single Sydney Sweeney having trouble getting a date. That's what the smart people told me.

Now it’s well, whoever wants to sign him has to give up money and/or draft picks because the Steelers own his rights.

He's taking the year off guys.

I would bet money the contract was voided. If he was fired the Steelers no longer have his rights. Allowing him the dignity of "resigning" wouldn't change that. If he was fired, they'd owe him $20M so there almost certainly is an "understanding" that was reached, which is likely everyone agreeing to rip up the contract.

I'd also bet money if Tomlin just decided to resign, he would have asked to be released from the contract and Rooney would have granted it.

If they just wanted to pressure him to quit, there also would have been a negotiation.


The absolute best case scenario for PIT is Tomlin wants to go to another team and they are willing to negotiate draft picks. But the flipside of that is if PIT demands torpedo a deal, then they're on the hook to pay Tomlin $20M.

Steelers are never getting a pick for Tomlin, for MANY reasons. Time to let go of that pipe dream. There's no "free option" for PIT here with rights to another year or two.

Replacing a coach with another coach who your guy beat 5 out of 6 the last games by an average of 17 points would be the dumbest thing the Bills have done in franchise history.

There is only a very specific scenario where I can see a team interested in Tomlin, and that's an absolute failed franchise like CLE or Vegas that just wants to get the fans excited by hiring Tomlin.

Like you said, there's nothing in the last 10-15 years of Tomlin's playoff career that would be appealing to a team on the doorstep like BUF. Tomlin has also largely failed at rebuilding, which takes most of the other teams off the table.

So maybe 4-6 teams would actually consider hiring Tomlin, but there won't be a bidding war and there won't be significant draft compensation. And Tomlin would have no interest going to those failed franchises because it will bury his waning HOF chances.

It's looking like MacDermott will never win a ring with Allen.

I'm not saying Tomlin is a great or even a good coach, but he has won the big one. He got to the Super Bowl twice with Ben.

Now with Mahomes out of the picture for at least a year, Buffalo needs to capitalize on the Super Bowl window NOW.

They failed in spectacular fashion this year. I'll bet if they fail again next year, MacDermott will be kicked to the curb.

Much like Tomlin's NHALS, nobody gives a shit about MacDermott doing anything other than he is NOT getting to Super Bowls.
