The most uninspired HC hire ever?

The only way this could have been worse is if they promoted Arthur Smith to HC...

All the promising young talent out there and we found the guy who might be the white version of Mike Tomlin.

Hey now!

He BEAT Mediocre Mike in their last Super Bowl.

So he has THAT going for him.

He’s also 11-11 in the playoffs. (Much better than the original Mediocre Mike)
He’s also 5 years younger than John Harbaugh, so he’s not the oldest hired guy in this cycle!

What was wrong with waiting for Shula again?

He is only one year younger than Harbaugh...63 vs 62

You are right.

Site I checked had his age at 67.

But hey, he’s still younger!

Art said they weren’t interested in a retread coach, then hired an out of work retread coach.

There was literal zero reason to rush to hire McCarthy. He wasn't going to sniff another job.

People need to just accept the reality that Art II really believes this team is right there with anyone. He doesn't see anything wrong with the state of the franchise at all.

This decision turned into a referendum on how Art II really felt about the state of the organization, and we have a definitive answer.

He's perfectly happy with the way things are.

If you hoped for losses before, just double down because now we know that we definitely need to see Art II humiliated and/or die before there's change.

Tomlin wasn’t the problem.

Rooney is and has always been the problem.

That now is abundantly clear.

Embrace the power of AND here in my opinion.

They were both the problem and both of them fed into the other one's bullshit I'd imagine. Tomlin probably spent years spewing his bullshit about how close they were. If only he could add a guy like Rodgers and oh hey yea maybe that Ramsey guy or this or that bullshit move they could get over the hump etc.

Art II has always believed on some level the playoffs are a crap shoot and you play to win every year etc.

They fed into each other and while I can't blame Tomlin for what Art II's dopey ass does after he leaves, his stench is still in that building. He contributed to the mediocrity that helped produce this listless decision.

Christ, I guarantee Tomlin had a big part in Khan getting the GM job and whose the other pillar helping to make this decision? Khan.

tomlin was also a problem but i do believe now maybe he did step down and Rooney has no problem with the past decade

I mean of course Tomlin was a problem. We all said that for 10+ years.

But you need an enabler, and this hire shows more of that ugly underbelly of a once great franchise now in the toilet

What concerns me is that this either shows (a) Art II is fully in control and not going anywhere anytime soon, or (b) Danny sees things the way Art II does.

If A, we’re fucked.

If B, we’re fucked for decades.

Might want to keep quiet. Smith doesn't have a job yet ...

Were there other teams really interested in McCarthy? If not, why not wait just 2 more days for interviews with the candidates still in the playoffs?

No. He had interviewed for the Titans job but "withdrew his consideration" probably after Saleh was hired. He has no other opportunities to be a HC. I hope he's at least cheap. Maybe he gave Art a discount?

Wow, that’s super frustrating and disgusting. I wasn’t always a blame the owner proponent but this certainly puts any doubts to rest.

Yep. I was ready to be patient while a new young buck rebuilt the team.

Next news is geriatric Rogers is coming back.

At this point, it’s just hope we suck. It’s more fun.

It would be kind of funny if they hired Mike II to get Rogers back and he either retires or goes somewhere else. Sad... but still.kinda funny

The only thing I like about this hire is it's not Mike Tomlin. I don't know what's more surprising, them hiring an old retread or them not hiring a minority. How long before Ryan Clark starts screaming racism?
