Jokes about not being ready even if healthy aside, apparently Khan said Jones will not be ready for camp and may not be ready to start the season.
Which IMO is a good thing after the play of Cook last season. But hopefully with a new HC and new OL coach and not drafting the guy the Jones disaster is wrapped up.

The injury allows the Steelers to use that as an excuse to not extend his fifth year option
The “we want to see how you come back from the injury”
vs “ we don’t think you played well enough”
While mostly semantics is still an ego saving message that allows the team to evaluate his recovery and progress with the new coaching staff. Specifically the new Oline coach.
I don’t think anybody is thrilled with his performance, but I’d rather take whatever options are available as opposed to just throwing away two draft picks that were used to take him
