Pens vs Devils (4/22/21)
Pens vs Devils (4/22/21)
Jarry starts in net. Brandon Tanev is skating. Kapanen will be a game time decision. Malkin has apparently disappeared after practicing earlier this week. Projected lines:
Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
McCann-Carter-Zucker
ZAR-Blueger-Rodrigues
Sceviour-Jankowski-Lafferty
Dumoulin-Letang
Matheson-Ceci
Pettersson-Marino
New Jersey has now lost 7 in a row and 9 out of 10. Don't look now, but they are only 3 points ahead of Buffalo in the standings
Around the division:
1. Capitals - 62 pts
2. Islanders - 62 pts
3. Penguins - 61 pts
4. Bruins - 58 pts
5. Rangers - 52 pts
6. Flyers - 47 pts
The Caps and Isles play each other, so let's just hope someone wins in regulation.
Boston takes on Buffalo.
Rangers host the Flyers. If the Pens take care of business, this game shouldn't matter.
NJ and Buffalo are both officially eliminated from the post season.

I have the movie 'Interstellar' synched to end with the the Pens pregame beginning. Hopefully the BIrdies don't inch their way towards the Event Horizon like they almost did Tuesday night.
I'm not seeing where Malkin isn't on the ice, nor do I see anything about Kap being game time.
Get on top of the Devils in their end like they did the first period and force TO's. That led to good scoring chances.

The boys looked crisp as hell in the first minute.

Friendly fire(Guentzel) on Crosby. Looks like he is alright.

Jarry stepping up today. Jersey has had some decent looks that he has gobbled up pretty clean.
So far this 3rd period is much more entertaining that the one on Tuesday against the Devils.

Love the bounce back after almost blowing it on Tuesday. Go Pens! Really like this scoring.

Nice win last night. I'm glad they had a meltdown in the 3rd on Tuesday night. Like I said then, it'll serve them well in closing out games from here on out, as it did last night.
Kap looked really good last night -- fast and fresh. Now get Turbo and Malkin back in the next few days/week and I like our chances, providing we can stay healthy -- that's our biggest obstacle, imo. Malkin concerns me the most.
If we take care of our business, we just need the Caps, NYI and BOS to all lose a couple (in regulation) from here on out and I think we are in good shape. Actually BOS concerns me the most of that group -- it's probably from being a little PATs shell-shocked over the last 20 years.

Browsing the twitters this morning, and noticed that Malkin and Gaudreau are both practicing with the team (in non contact jerseys).
One interesting development is that Kapanen is on the 3rd line with ZAR and Teddy. It sounds like the McCann-Carter-Zucker line will be here to stay. Could this be what the lines look like if/when the Pens are fully healthy?
Guentzel - Crosby - Rust
Rodrigues(?) - Malkin - Kapanen
McCann - Carter - Zucker
ZAR - Blueger - Tanev
So.....I think that addresses everyone's questions about having 3 legit scoring lines. I'm suddenly feeling very confident in this team.

Would this eventual lineup surprise/upset you?Pabst wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 5:19 pmBrowsing the twitters this morning, and noticed that Malkin and Gaudreau are both practicing with the team (in non contact jerseys).

The possibilities are intriguing to me.
There's an interesting thought.
It's not like they're married to one or the other, so see what works.

Tanev and Malkin have had a little chemistry prior. Then again Tanev is your primary forward PK'er. You can't expect him to play second line minutes and possibly have to kill 4-5 penalties in a game. On top of that, there is no second FO man on that line.
I get that you could play him some with Malkin but I would rather have a second center there.
I like Rodrigues next to Malkin more. Reminds me of the days of Malkin and Fedotenko and Sikora for some reason.
Interesting, last night Kap didn't play one second with Carter but he played on the other three lines.
Couple of things:
Last night Blueger matched his point total from last season. That is impressive, and he missed time.
Carter is better than advertised. I read that he had slowed down but I haven't seen such. He is also a big guy who is skilled. Never can have too many of those.
Jordan Staal played his 1000th game a week or so ago. How time flies.
This is a great point that didn't even cross my mind.fractalsteel wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 7:02 pmOn top of that, there is no second FO man on that line.
Yes, like Pabst said, great point.fractalsteel wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 7:02 pmOn top of that, there is no second FO man on that line.
