Pens vs Islanders (4/14/22)

Post by Pabst » Thu Apr 14, 2022 5:17 pm

Dear Penguins,

It would be really nice if you didn't drop to a WC spot, as that would mean a first round playoff matchup with the Florida Panthers. The Islanders are not a good team on the road. Please win.

Thanks,
Pabst

Some side notes:
- Pens will officially clinch a playoff spot with a win today.
- Rust and E Rod are apparently doing better and will be GTD this evening.

Jake Guentzel - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust
Jason Zucker - Jeff Carter - Rickard Rakell
Brock McGinn - Teddy Blueger - Evan Rodrigues
Danton Heinen - Brian Boyle - Kasperi Kapanen

Mike Matheson / Kris Letang
Brian Dumoulin / John Marino
Mark Friedman / Chad Ruhwedel

Tristan Jarry

An interesting note from Pensburgh - Crosby has been historically weak against strong right handed shots in the FO circle. A player matching that description is JG Pageau, and coincidentally Sid was 33% in faceoffs on Tuesday. We'll see if Sully tries to avoid that matchup tonight (another player he's historically struggled against is Patrice Burgeron, but we'll worry about that on Saturday).

Anders Lee - Brock Nelson -Anthony Beauvillier
Josh Bailey - J.G. Pageau - Kyle Palmieri
Zach Parise - Mat Barzal - Oliver Wahlstrom
Matt Martin - Casey Cizikas - Ross Johnston

Adam Pelech / Ryan Pulock
Zdeno Chara / Noah Dobson
Andy Greene / Grant Hutton

Ilya Sorokin

It will be close because 1) it’s the islanders and 2) Trotz is a hell of a coach. Just win, baby.

I think a lot of fans forget or just don't pay attention but when Crosby came into the league his FO's were not a strong part of his game. He worked very hard at it and has become good at it.

I expect the Islanders to be very physical tonight. What do they have to lose?

Did you know:
Malkin became the first Russian born NHL player to get to 700 career assists.

Patrick Kane has never scored a short handed goal in his NHL career.

Mike Bossy scored 573 goals in 752 career NHL games. That is ridiculous.
The greatest pure goal scorer to ever play the game.
Sorry Ovie fans
Bossy .76 goals per game
Ovie .61 goals per game.

We will probably score first then watch the Islanders score the next few only to have the Pens claw back and score back to back goals in a minute. Then they will lose in OT.

The Heinen goal was perfect. Just perfect execution.

16 straight years in the playoffs. Pretty goddamn impressive if you ask me.

Talk about a sad coincidence....

I knew he was sick with cancer but a month ago he made it seem like he had a good chance to beat it.

I put that blurb out there because earlier in the week the TV voices were talking about the all time great goal scorers and they didn't mention #22.
I had immense respect for those Islander teams that won four straight.
What a group.

A sad day

Maybe we should also note that there are a few other players ahead of Ovie for goals/game.

The Russian Rocket (aka DJ Tanner's brother in law) is slightly ahead at .623/game.
Auston Mathews is actually ahead of Ovie at this point in time - .638/game (though he has a long road ahead of him)

Oh, and our own Mario Lemieux is #2 all time. Just behind Bossy at .754 goals/game.

On another note - Sid's 3 point game last night brought him to a tie with Ovechkin on the all time points list. Sid has also played in 167 fewer games (more than 2 full seasons). Sid is currently 7th all time in PPG. McDavid is 4th, Malkin 16th. Ovechkin 27th.

Another reason why Mario is the GREATEST of all time.

I brought up the game discrepancy in the Capitols thread because the TV idiots talked about Ovie being ahead of Sid in total points w/o making that point present. Kind of a big deal.

Surprised no one talking this

Broken bone in foot, week to week means he’s pretty much done for year

DeSmith’s net

He can pull it out if he plays lights out.

Where are you hearing that it is a broken bone?
I figured it was an hyperextended knee cause he got run over a few times that game. Each shot was to the lower legs and knees.

I take injury news in the NHL to be vague at best. That DK is the only one talking about this makes me skeptical. When the Pens say someone is hurt or a PItt reporter brings up injury you can be sure there is more to the story than being let on.

I follow the Pens close enough but with injuries why waste your time when the truth is not apparent?

I first heard it on the fan 93.7 on the morning show
And you know how teams use the UBI /LBI designations these days

I was surprised to hear it was broken foot as spoken detail in multiple places.

Ok. So either way, who the fuck is the back up net minder?
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the pigeon is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.

Just heard Ron Cook say Jarry was pushed in a chair out across the ice for the team picture and used a scooter to leave the ice

Talking it now on 93.7
