Managed to be on the edge of my seat the whole game, through three OT's. Excellent stuff. Rest up, boys. No game 2 letdowns. Great start, though!

Gotta love playoff hockey. What a nail bitter of a game. I thought the complete team showed real grit and determination. Great win! It had to take some air out of the Rangers' sails.

Lindgren's Hit on Rakell was total BS. He launched, left the ice and made direct contact with his chin/jaw. I hate that the NHL lets this shit continue. Hopefully Rakell is back soon.

Glad to see Rusty finally have a better game. With the way he's looked lately, I kinda thought he might be playing thru an injury or something. Happy to see him play a little more like his old self last night.

Now, Rest up, come out full throttle Thursday night, and put these asshats on the ropes with another win!

LGP!

Not be the downer of the thread, but DeSmith is being evaluated for an injury. Rumors I’ve seen are that he hurt his hand. No idea about severity.

Get will soon, Jarry.

On the flip side - Shesterkin played the equivalent of (almost) 2 full games and faced 83 SOG last night. NY is much more dependent on strong goalie play than the Pens.

BTW, the Pens' 83 shots on goal is the 2nd most all time for a playoff game. The record is 88, but that game went to 5 OTs (Tampa vs Columbus in 2020).

I’d love an update on Rakell. Any chance it isn’t as bad as it looked? Possible the league suspends Lindgren a few games after review?

He launched, he caught him in the chin, and Rakell was injured on the play. At the very least this deserves a hearing.

Also, a good catch from the Sportsnet crew - on this same play, Fox gets away with a blatant cross-check on Guentzel as everyone is heading to Rakell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaqeqiw3uHA&t=53

The Kappo no-goal in the 3rd could have gone either way. I wonder if this sequence nudged the refs toward a call in the Pens favor.

They showed the Fox hit on Jake on AT&T Pitt. Should have been 2 minors and the Pens on a 5 on 3. Errey was irate about the no-call.

Clifford got a game but he also was given a major and game misconduct. So I doubt there is any suspension rendered.

I can't find anything about DeSmith possibly being injured. If he can't go who is the backup tomorrow? If Rakell can't go is it O'Connor or Bjorkqvist in the lineup?

I wish I could have watched the Florida loss.

Edit: Trib is saying DeSmith limped off after leaving the ice.

The current goalies at WBS are Filip Lindberg, who has played only 7 AHL games; or it's Alex D'Orio....who has been pretty bad at the ECHL level.

Really hoping Desmith is just dealing with cramps.

Some observations from the box score: https://www.hockey-reference.com/boxsco ... 30NYR.html

- Ignore all the talk about the hits / physicality from the Rangers in Game 1. The Rangers' bottom 6 and 3rd defensive pairings were flat out terrible last night. At even strength, the 3rd line of Lafreniere-Chytil-Kakko started 75% of their shifts in the Offensive zone....all of them had a corsi below 44%. It was even worse for the Reaves-Goodrow-Rooney line. They started in the o-zone 70% of the time and were outshot by a 2 to 1 margin.

- On the flip side, the 2nd line of Copp-Strome-Panarin was excellent. Weirdly enough, the Rangers were using their tops lines more in the defensive zone.

- The Penguins had an absolutely insane 143 shot attempts yesterday. As has been the theme for so much of this year, the Rangers were bailed out by Shesterkin.

D'Orio will get the call up if Desmith can't go tomorrow.

Sully called Rakell and Desmith 'day-to-day'

In positive news, Zucker was a full participant in practice today.

DeSmith has been playing very well. It would suck if he's out.

I've been satisfying family obligations so I missed the entire game sans the last 20 seconds. Logged on to see the final result and saw the 3OT. Pulled up a stream and saw the deflection game winning goal. I wish I saw the whole game. Looked like a thriller.

So if we haven’t heard anything on Lundgren at this point then he’s likely in the clear. I still think it’s totally absurd. You cannot launch yourself into a player like that causing a head injury. Does the NHL want to get rid of that kind of play or not? It’s bullshit. PROTECT THE TALENT.
