Pens vs Blackhawks (11/20/22) - Geno's 1000th game

Two things happening today:
Evgeni Malkin will be playing in game #1,000
Chicago is retiring Marian Hossa's number

Please, Pens, let's ruin Hossa's day one more time. For old time's sake.

Chicago lost last night in Boston. The hawks have a strong PP unit..... that's about it. They're below average in every other phase of the game.
Not to downplay everything that happened in Chicago over the last year, but one positive is that it forced them to clean house and start a (long overdue) full rebuild.

Andreas Athanasiou - Max Domi -Patrick Kane
Philipp Kurashev - Jonathan Toews - Taylor Raddysh
Mackenzie Entwistle - Jason Dickinson - Sam Lafferty
Reese Johnson - Jujhar Khaira - Colin Blackwell

Jarred Tinordi / Connor Murphy
Jack Johnson / Jake McCabe
Filip Roos / Ian Mitchell

Arvid Soderblom

Pens lines:
Jake Guentzel - Sidney Crosby - Rickard Rakell
Jason Zucker - Evgeni Malkin - Bryan Rust
Brock McGinn - Jeff Carter - Danton Heinen
Ryan Poehling - Teddy Blueger - Josh Archibald

Marcus Pettersson / Kris Letang
P.O. Joseph / Jeff Petry
Brian Dumoulin / Jan Rutta

Casey DeSmith

Sam Lafferty night, ha ha,ha.

On the broadcast last night Errey said Sid hasn't scored a goal in Chicago. I didn't bother to look it up but if true tonight would be a good time.
History know, the Birrdies have had their troubles in the Windy city.

Thankfully this is on local coverage, I get so sick of hearing how great Toews was.

Marion Hossa leaving the Burgh to win a cup, then losing to the Pens in the finals to lose the cup, is still something I get great joy out of.

In 2009 I made it onto Scotty Ferrall’s radio show and he and I talked a bunch of shit about Hossa for like a minute. It was glorious.

The last five minutes find the Birdies defending much too much in their end. I thought the PK might have woken them but they are fairly sloppy so far..

Every time they show Mrs Geno you see a stunning woman then his son and the poor kid got a lot of dad's looks.

Ice is definitely tilted toward the Pens zone, but it doesn't seem like Chicago is getting too many high danger chances.

As I say that Desmith makes a gorgeous save with his left skate

Very nice of the Blackhawks to let Geno charge right through the slot uncontested.

2-0

I just noticed an interesting quirk in the Pens schedule: They've only played 6 home games to date (vs 13 on the road). That is by far the most lopsided home/away in the Eastern conference. 8 of their next 10 are at home.

This recent streak has put the Pens within 1 point of a wildcard spot and only 2 points behind Carolina for 2nd in the Metro.
