Pens vs Capitals (1/26/23)

Post by Pabst » Thu Jan 26, 2023 9:00 pm

Well....the Caps finally got everyone back from injury and went 11-2-2 in the month of December. Unfortunately for them, the calendar flipped to January and they're only 4-6-1 in the New Year. Frankly, that record is even less impressive when you look at the pillow-soft schedule they've played this month (Washington has played only 2 teams in a playoff spot in those 11 games).

As of 3:00 CST, TJ Oshie and Nik Backstrom are expected to play (Oshie is a new daddy and Backstom has been sick). Piece-of-shit Tom Wilson missed the Caps morning skate and is a game time decision. Nic Dowd and John Carlson remain on IR. Alex Ovechkin has been banged up as well, but it's not like he does much besides set up on the dot and wait for passes (yeah, I went there).

Not going to post the Caps' lines because I don't know them.

Pens lines:

Jake Guentzel - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust
Jason Zucker - Evgeni Malkin - Rickard Rakell
Brock McGinn - Teddy Blueger - Jeff Carter
Drew O’Connor - Ryan Poehling - Danton Heinen

Marcus Pettersson / Jeff Petry
Brian Dumoulin / Kris Letang
P.O. Joseph / Chad Ruhwedel

Casey DeSmith or Dustin Tokarski

I have absolutely no idea what happened to Jarry. Desmith better get his head out of his ass or it could get ugly.

Milestone Alert: Sidney Crosby enters tonight's game one point behind Stan Mikita for 15th all time. That will be the last player he'll pass this season, as it's another 54 points before he gets to Paul Coffey.

Can they dress an extra forward and just let Carter come on for key faceoffs on his forehand side, then go back to the bench?

I don't understand why they can't just sit Carter for a day or two and let him regroup. He's offering next to nothing at this point.
1 20 Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia

3 84 Hunter Nourzad, C, Penn State
3× 98 Jarvis Brownlee, Jr., CB, Florida State

DeSmith actually looks like an NHL goalie tonight.

Pens are just not crisp right now. Passing and puck control is all over the place.

Kind of surprised that Malkin was in the third slot instead of Letang.
