I’m not normally a fan of leagues manipulating schedules for ratings, but backloading schedules with mostly divisional games is one my favorite trends in sports right now.
It basically makes the playoffs start a few weeks sooner. It’s extending the playoffs without actually extending the playoffs.

and the nice thing about today is that the Rags and Isles are early and give some room to watch round three of the Masters mid day. Then the biggie game Pens/Prunes is at 8 just when the third round is starting to wind down.
Nice timing.
Unfortunately I got stuck on the short end of the stick and might luck into watching the last two periods of the Pens game.
Rust and Sid certainly have carried the offensive load but they better not replicate their defensive performance against the Wings tonight.

Isles lose in OT. Not optimal, but not terrible either.

Means at least for now pens control their own destiny as far as catching the islesLouis Lipps Service wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 7:42 pmIsles lose in OT. Not optimal, but not terrible either.

Two things stood out to me in that period.
One good, one not so.
On PP the Pens are running 65 at the top middle point(normal) with a floating point player to either side. There is no gap between them and no depth so Boston is pressuring the player with the puck. From that you saw the Pens toss the puck laterally too often ten feet inside their blue line. That is a recipe for disaster.
One stick on the puck and it is going the other way, with steam.
Get the puck deep and work from the corners then high instead of stringing the puck laterally from inside your blue line.
The Pens blocked shots that had chances. DOC had one with less than 7 minutes left in the period that probably saved a goal. Kid makes plays.
They did a good job on Pasta early and into the middle of the second half of the period. Dude had a few chances which you can't do much about but if they can keep him off balance then they improve their chances of winning.

I don't get this 12% to make the playoffs. Way I figure it, Pens get in if winning thier final two, if two of the following three happen:
*Isles lose to Devils on Monday in regulation
*Detroit lose one of two to Canadians (even if an OT loss)
*Caps lose to EITHER Bruins or Flyers (even if an OT loss)
*Isles lose to Devils on Monday in regulation
*Detroit lose one of two to Canadians (even if an OT loss)
*Caps lose to EITHER Bruins or Flyers (even if an OT loss)
Seems about right to me. Purely based on chance only 25% likelihood of winning their final two.swissvale72 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 4:55 amI don't get this 12% to make the playoffs. Way I figure it, Pens get in if winning thier final two, if two of the following three happen:
