Sid passes Sakic

Post by Pabst » Fri Jan 10, 2025 12:39 am

Sid just logged his 2nd assist of the evening, so he moves past Joe Sakic for 9th on the all time points list.

Next up.....Mario Lemieux

I think he has been passing or approaching most of Lemieux’s franchise records for things like even strength goals and assists. Hats off to Sid for sure, but can you imagine if Lemieux played for a more competitive team from 1984-1988 and 2000-2005 or didn’t have the back troubles or Hodgkin’s? I saw a crazy stat that he only played in 915 of a possible 1,430 regular season games between the opening of the 1984–85 campaign and the conclusion of the 2005–2006 campaign (including the lymphoma retirement during the 1997-1998 through 1999-2000 campaigns). He missed all of 94-95 with Hodgkin’s then came back and won the scoring title in 95-96! It’s ridiculous how good he was.

After coming out of retirement he was averaging 1.5 points/game for 3 seasons. And this was during the height of the dead puck era.

I turn 40 this year - It's wild to think that the Pens have had (arguably) the best player on the planet for probably 35 of those years.
