Other than Mike Weber, a pretty underwhelming group.
If I had to make a strong wager on any player in this upcoming draft becoming a Steeler, my money would be on Boykin.

I like Weber, Boykin and David Long from this group.

LB Ben Burr-Kirven from Washington

This kid doesn't have eye popping combine numbers but his film shows him to be a tackling machine that is usually around the ball. His HIG factor is very high as they might say. I only saw a handful of UW games last season or two but he always showed up. Worst case scenario with him is bye bye Dirty Red.

Also Ben Burr-Kirven seems to be around a lot of turnovers whether causing them or getting them.

His workout numbers were pretty good, and he's definitely a turnover guy. He was also out-lengthed and overpowered at times.

almost all these guys are all about Day 3 and UDFA

Boykin is a great STs guy.

I really don't know what to make of Boykin. The workout #s are ridiculous, but I don't see anything near that on tape. Takes forever to get started and looks slower and less explosive than Juju.

And you'd think a guy with his size and speed would be a huge threat downfield. All I see are games where he's blanketed. He's over-aged and never did anything before his senior year. He's also pretty pedestrian with the ball in his hands, offers little in the way of YAC.

He has skills to like, and again, the workout #s are what they are, but I don't know if I'd be comfortable using on of our top three picks on him. Late third at best, maybe even an early day three guy for me.

#Steelers are doing a lot of homework on CBs. Byron Murphy and Deandre Baker are in Pittsburgh today and tomorrow for a pre-draft visit.

That is a lot of CBs for official visits. 5 off the top of my head.

Love, love, love that they brought in Oliver for a visit. It really is true, if you look at his highlights he really does look and play like a young Vance McDonald.

Ran a 4.63, has nimble feet and good/great hands and is an unrefined blocker but he wants to be physical and nasty as a blocker. The desire is there to be a great blocker he just needs a world class TE coach like Daniel to coach him up in that department.

I think he will be gone before our 4th round pick. I would not be upset if he is our second 3rd round pick. Maybe they can use one of our 6th round picks to trade up earlier in round 4 to get him?? Many may argue that he will last longer but this guy has high, high upside to be a complete TE. Fantastic pass catcher who can be a great blocker, a true combo TE. Prospects like that do not fall and usually go higher than expected.

He had some issues locating the football/anticipating throws in the games I saw. I can see the Macdonald comparison but I don't think he's as good as Vance.

Well to be fair, the Vance of now is not the Vance when he was entering the NFL either. You look for traits and hope that coaching and their work ethic will let them develop.

I really want the Steelers to favor the more dangerous pass catcher rather than draft the kid from LSU, Foster Moreau. There are so many good/great TEs in this draft class that the Steelers should not be shy in grabbing one, and do so early if they want. It is time, James is gone, Grimble is still the same enigma he has always been, and I love McDonald but the position is due for a high pick.

To me Irv Smith Jr in round 2 or early 3, and then as my fallback, Oliver in late 3 or round 4. Both of them would be great backups/complements to McDonald. Both can be better blockers than James and also be more dangerous down the field catching the ball.

Mark Bruener worked out Donald Parham, if I remember his pro day news correctly. That would certainly be a better pass catcher than Moreau.

@RapSheet
A rarity: #LSU CB Greedy Williams has had no visits and it appears no private workouts, either. Some dinners and meetings, but that’s all. It’s not good, it’s not bad. It’s just rare. Only other player I can remember like this was Tyler Eifert, who had no questions coming out. https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/111 ... draft-2019

Either this kid is saving himself for some team or is just one of those you get what you see. Any thoughts?

Kerrith Whyte, running back/return specialist, visits the Steelers https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/ste ... 1904110103
Steelers playing host to Toledo WR Diontae Johnson https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/ste ... 1904120101

So either Switzer isn't considered a return guy anymore or he should be real nervous? Thoughts?

Steelers punt return team was 16th in the NFL. Switzer is... sorta average, maybe below average.

I’m eager to improve returners this year.

Why the Steelers continue to settle for below average returners is beyond me. However, I did think Switzer did a good job with what he had to work with at times. It's why I'm a big fan of adding Justice Hill in the 3rd Round.
