First Mock of the Year
I really wish the Steelers had more picks this year.
1 Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss
My favorite QB in this class and I think he is a perfect fit in Pittsburgh. Think he finds a way to Pittsburgh after Willis is taken early.
2 Nick Cross, SAF, Maryland
Safety is a need, and this kid is a stellar athlete. A good complement for Minkah Fitzpatrick, and a friend of Dino Tomlin.
3 Danny Gray, WR, SMU
Time to go back to SMU for another third round wide receiver. Gray will bring some speed back to this offense and I think he has some untapped potential.
4 D’Angelo Malone, OLB, Western Kentucky
Malone is meant to be a 34 outside linebacker, he’s got great get off and bend around the edge.
6 D’Marco Jackson, LB, Appalachian State
One of my favorite late round prospects, this kid reminds me a ton of Demario Davis.
7 Reggie Roberson, WR, SMU
I liked this guy last year as a draft eligible prospect, but then he decided to go back to school. Got hurt this year, but I think he’s a lot better than what people are giving him credit for…he can get down the field and is elusive with the ball in his hands.
7 Bamidele Olaseni, OT, Utah
Think it’s a pipe dream that this Ute will be here, he’s a big athletic guy from a school that has put some good offensive linemen in over the years. Feel like his best football lies ahead of him.

No please to Corral. He will be a fine backup in the league.
Watching him in that youtube I posted of Miss St Offenses vs Tenn Defense, you can see has no confidence in his arm/accuracy to put it into tight windows. He deep ball accuracy is shit. NFL average arm at best. As the word smith of our time, Mike Tomlin said "I would rather tell a QB to Whoa rather than to Giddyup." You would have to put the spurs to Corral all the time.

I'm betting on either a dumb trade up for Willis (see Bush, but even worse with a first next year as well), or they sit at #20 and go Ridder. who will be Kordell Stewart but less athletic.

If they trade up they are morons
Well…

I like some of these guys, but allow me to offer an alternative-- same posiitions each spot:
1 Cole Kelley, QB, SE Louisiana
If you're gonna swing big, swing big. Don't be worried about picking someone safe because you have to pick someone who won't fail.
2 Lewis Cine, S, Georgia
I think slot Safety/NCB is a bigger need but if we're picking a safety here, give me the better player from the better conference.
3 Calvin Austin III,WR, Memphis
There are actually some great WR choices who should be available at this pick if they don't trade it away on some mission of folly. I think Austin or Wan'Dale or Tyquan Thornton would all be great choices at this spot. So, Im sure they'll pick Skyy Moore.
4 Drake Jackson, EDGE, USC
Really like Malone, but he's a TJ Watt style player and I think they need a more complementary EDGE to that-- someone a bit bigger and sturdier with power. Jackson is one of the most explosive guys and is 272 lbs that ran a 7.02 3-cone. That's rare bend--- and he's primarily a power guy. Oh and he's 21.
6 James Houston III, LB, Jackson State.
Really Like Jackson, too. But, in the interest of the exercise, Houston was really good when playing at LB-- tested like a champ... AND he comes with top-notch instincts and blitzing skills.
7 Samori Toure, WR, Nebraska
Touré was an FCS superstar in one of their power conferences playing for an FCS title contender. Then he went to Nebraska––a team who barely threw it. Despite that, he dominated the Cornhuskers receiving and playmaking sheet, with a massive share of their receptions, yards, and TDs.
7 Myron Cunningham, OT, Louisville
I like Olaseni and I also don't believe he'll make it to the end of round 7... but despite Olaseni's upside, Cunningham is just a damn good OT who can step in and immediately play both sides. Extremely underrated.

1 20 Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia
2 51 TRADE: Brandon Aiyuk, WR
3 84 Hunter Nourzad, C, Penn State
3× 98 Jarvis Brownlee, Jr., CB, Florida State
4 128 Qwan'tez Stiggers, DB, Toronto Argonauts

My first thought is " Yeah but Skyy Moore is an inch taller so, you know..."bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 5:56 pm

Austin is going to be very good in the NFL. DJ Johnson without the drops.

You really think Cole Kelley has shot all the way up to a 1st round prospect?bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 5:56 pmI like some of these guys, but allow me to offer an alternative-- same posiitions each spot:

Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

He was the best available for purposes of this exercise.
I heard crazy talk about teams thinking about him rd 2. Nothing like a lame class of big school QBs to make teams suddenly discover the FCS exists.
I think he’s way more likely to go in the 4th, but I might have said the same thing about Daniel Jones a month out from the draft that year.

I think he's the most complete prospect physically and also pretty close to a young Ben. I've wondered if that put him higher on Colbert's list.

Maybe
I think the two guys they’d take if available to them in Rd 1: Willis and Ridder
If neither of those happens, then maybe they try and get Cole Kelley late (wouldn’t prohibit them from picking a guy 1st next year) or maybe they wait until 2023.
