Tortoise and the Hare

1.) Deonte Banks 6’0 197 DB Maryland- Nothing slow about this turtle. Came in with the same freshman class as Dino. Combine SUPERSTAR. 4.35 40, 42 vert, and an insane 11’2 broad. Yep. The Steelers are once again telegraphing their 1st round pick by meeting with all the stud corners. I just pray Tomlin doesn’t trade up for Peezy’s boy. With spring break just around the corner, a new TV just isn’t in the budget.

2T) Keion White 6’5 285 DE Georgia Tech- Rare is the mock that I include a Yellow Jacket but no Bulldogs (“What in the hell is the world comin’ to?”-Sherriff Buford T. Justice). Wish this POWERFUL, all-out hustler would’ve ran the 40 but 30 reps on the bench and ’34 vert will do nicely. Again, this round 2 pick courtesy a most generous Bears organization is going to be a valuable commoditiy. I trade down just a few spots here. White and DeMarvin Leal a nice set of young ends to groom behind Suwanee GA’s own, Cam Heyward.

2B) Blake Freeland 6’8 302 OT BYU- Fast rising ‘Coug after his record-breaking workout in Indy. This team captain is flying up draft boards after blazing a 1.68 ten split along with a 10’ broad and a historic ’37 vert. RAS monster coming in with a stellar 9.82 score (23rd out of 1,227 OT scores since 1987). Kenny desperately needs a revamped left side of the line be it through free agency or the draft.

3T) Trey Palmer 6’0 192 WR Nebraska- Some serious Louisiana Lightning right here. My Hare if you will. This former 5 star LSU recruit set all kinds of receiving records at crappy ass Nebraska this past season. ‘Ol Trey nearly broke twitter after armchair stopwatches clocked this rocket at a 4.21 NOT the official 4.33. Again, I feel oh so dirty mocking home run hitters to the Tomlida offense. YOU SUCK, CANADA (Not the country. Fun times up there)!

3) Zach Kuntz 6’7 255 TE Old Dominion- And here’s what a perfect 10 RAS score looks like with a smooth 4.55 40, insane ’40 vert, 10’8 broad, and a ridiculous 6.87 3 cone. This year’s version of Jelani Woods will surely see a meteoric draft rise going from a day 3 afterthought to a sure fire day 2 selection. Oh and he’s also buddies with Muuuth going back to their days together at Happy Valley. Nepotism my friends, nepotism.

4.) Ricky Stromberg 6’3 306 OC Arkansas- Getting to be that silly season where we track all the prospects that have met face to face with our beloved Steelers like this big ‘ol Hog. Venerable 40 game starter in the mighty SEC. We can do better than Mason Cole at center thinks I.

5T) Keondre Coburn 6’2 332 DT Texas- Saw a clip somewhere of this big ‘sum bitch getting pummeled by the beforementioned Ricky Stromberg. He may not be the next Casey Hampton, but he was offered a scholarship to Alabama by Steelers’ defensive line coach Karl Dunbar. The same Karl Dunbar who ran the defensive line drills in Indy this past weekend. Connect the dots, bitches.

7) Shaka Heyward 6’3 235 LB Duke- Nepotism. I now HATE that word. But it’s going to happen. You know it and I know it. Tomlin is going to draft Joey Porter Jr in round 1, then he’s going to nab Cam and Connor’s cousin here on day 3 (but hopefully not before signing a starting LB in free agency such as the always mentioned TJ Edwards by way of Andy Weidl’s Eagles).

7) Rakim Jarrett 6’0 192 WR Maryland- What’s in the water over in Annapolis? Good gravy some fast ass turtles over there. Former 5 star recruit never lived up to the hype but a good day 3 roll of the dice selection. Dino’s old coach Mike Locksley will be the next Steelers’ OC. NEPOTISM. Such an ugly word. YOU SUCK, TOMLIN!

Thanks as always for reading. Please comment on the players you like and those you don’t. Another fun filled combine in the books. Holy corners, batman! My guy Anthony Richardson blew the lid off Lucas Oil. Sooo many fun prospects so few draft picks. TRADE DOWN he said.

I would be stunned if Zach Kuntz made it out of the 2nd let alone to the Steeler 3rd round pick but thumbs up. Great draft.

4 of the last 14 maryland players that have been drafted were taken by the steelers;

Sean Davis, Derwin Gray, Anthony McFarland, Antoine Brooks.

Really can’t feign any enthusiasm for grabbing a CB from there in the 1st round who couldn’t make 2nd team all-ACC simply because he combined almost as well as Sean Davis. That is a pipeline I’d really like to see valved off tight.

But then Tomlin might not get asked to his boyz, Mike Locksley (the black coaches current power broker), next cookout!

Not to mention, Dino's gonna need a J O B in a few short months....

C'mon man!

I watch a nearly non-socially acceptable amount of B1G football, and I really can't understand the fascination with Maryland (the school that gave us Neil O'Donnell) players.

B1G guy also, who watches an shitload of college football, a high percentage of which is B1G, and I agree. A poor JV level program (see what I did there) that rarely attracts high end talent. And for some reason, Mike Locksley is put up on a pedestal. I don’t get it!

Does provide nice access from Delaware to a Buckeye game every 2 years, though, which I still think (aside from recruiting footprint) was the main point of adding Buttgers and the Derps. East coast fan access.

Certainly. They are in the East Coast Market and soon the West Coast. Chicago, New York, and now LA.

At least the West Coast acquisitions add something to the league.
