PFN Mock Draft Simulator

Post by ol skool » Fri Nov 10, 2023 7:15 pm

Say what you will about the player rankings, it's still early. Simulator works well.

Post mocks here (no trades). Come April you'll be surprised how many prospects fall/rise.

Try to ignore inexplicable falls in the first round when you do these. Example: Marvin Harrison ain't gonna be there. Ignore him if he is; move on.

https://www.profootballnetwork.com/mockdraft

1.22 Kamren Kinchens - S - Miami. 5'11'', 202lbs. Well-rounded and an absolute ballhawk. Imagine him paired with Minkah.

2.53 Malachi Corley - WR - Western Kentucky. 5'11'', 200lbs. A bit of a reach here for someone who really intrigues me. Deebo Samuel comp known as the "YAC God." Yes, please. Don't know how long DJ will be around, if Pickens will grow the fuck up or if CA3 has more to show us.

3.88 Zach Frazier - C - WVU. 6'3'', 310lbs. You're all familiar with him by now. I do trust him on an island, so far. And that would be asked of him in Pittsburgh. More likely a R2 pick.

4.102 Cam Hart - CB - Notre Dame. 6'2'', 202lbs. Feldman Freak. Lots of traits to like, but needs to clean up technique. Could also be tried at S if he fails at CB.

4.119 Luke Lachey - TE - Iowa. 6'6'', 252lbs. Steelers-type of TE. Need pick, given Muuuuth's injury history, Washington's slow start to a career and Rodney Williams being a long-shot to make it.

6.181 Carson Steele - RB - UCLA. 6'1'', 216lbs. This one was too easy. His last name is STEELE. Seriously, though, dig the well-rounded skillset.

7.216 Judge Culpepper - DT - Toledo. 6'4'', 295lbs. 5th-year Senior. 5 sacks on the year so far. Helluva name. Why not?

Obviously, we'd need to address RT in Free Agency. DL also.

Post-Packers Mock

1.23 Cooper DeJean - CB - Iowa 6'2'' 195lbs. A run-to-the-podium pick for a guy who can help in every part of the secondary.

2.54 Tommy Eichenberg - LB - Ohio State 6'2'' 235lbs. We are snakebitten at this position. Tommy could wear the green dot day one.

3.88 Cole Bishop - S - Utah 6'3'' 200lbs. Another pick for the defense? Sorry, but I can't resist a Safety with size who can line up anywhere. Sorely needed, as we saw yesterday, and could be the answer to other teams' elite TEs.

4.103. Jackson Powers-Johnson - C - Oregon 6'3'' 320lbs. Strong like bull, and plays with a mean streak. See ya, Mason!.

4.119 Jaylin Noel - WR - Iowa State 5'10'' 200lbs. Slight reach here for a sturdy and YACy WR who should be able to create separation, and we need more of that.

6.184 Matt Goncalves - OT - Pitt 6'6'' 330lbs. Could he slip this far given his injury? Who knows? But he's here for me now.

7.215 Gavin Bartholomew - TE - Pitt 6'5'' 250lbs. Yes, another Panther. Trust me, guys, the dude has sticky hands and deceptive athleticism. Has the frame to carry more weight and would be a work-in-progress as a blocker, but a reliable safety valve from the get-go.

Again, the FO would need to address DL depth in FA in this scenario. Hopefully RB, too.

Like Melton. Those Rutgers CBs are an impressive group. Lachey or Barth later on are nice for TE depth. I dig Tommy E, but most would say that's a homer pick for me. I'd like to see his combine performance, and some testosterone vs. TTUN in a couple weekends. Kam K would be a huge help for the secondary. Powers-Johnson could anchor and not get pushed into Pickett's lap the way Cole sometimes does. Some combo of those? I'd be good.

God help me, I'll probably be playing around with this tomorrow.

I would rather not have a WR in the first 2 days. Center? Yes. They need a quality center. RT? Yes. They need to move on from Moore so solidifying the RT spot would allow Jones to move to the LT. Now here is where it is tricky. They need a quality CB and a decent safety. RT could wait until day 3 as this class is fairly deep. ILB would also be good. They seem to need one of the SS/LB hybrids or they keep trying to find them. I do love Eichenberg. Not sure he is what the Steelers look for but he is very smart and can play zone well. I wish they would have drafted Ivan Pace last draft rather than waste a pick on a 7th round QB but...

They also need to look at either a Cam replacement or a real NT. Their run defense just flat out sucks. Real NTs can be had on day 3 as the NFL under values them. A Cam replacement is different.

23. Cooper DeJean CB Iowa
54. Jayden Daniels QB LSU
88. Zach Frazier OC West Virginia
103. Dontay Corleone DT Cincinnati
119. Blake Corum RB Michigan

Yeah I know, we're not drafting a QB. One can dream though. Daniels would be perfect.

Under Matt Canada and Tomlin, Daniels better be real good at throwing 2 yard passes, back shoulder throws, completely avoiding the middle of the field and being able to turn it on in the 4th quarter if the team is down.

I'm a Pitt alum, loved watching Kenny play during that dream season at Pitt, and will continue to support as long as he's playing in Pittsburgh.

I'd love Daniels in the 2nd if available.

My run through the draft simulator.

23.Barrett Carter LB Clemson - stuck at 23 and took a Hybrid style LB. I think he plays with a style that Tomlin likes.

69. McKinnley Jackson DT Texas A&M - Traded down twice to get more mid round picks. My Dominating zero tech

84. Zach Frazier OC West Virginia - Very strong center. Not as athletic as I would like.

88. Kiran Amegadjie OT Yale - My mean smart RT. He will play in the NFL for a long time.

103. Cedric Gray LB North Carolina - good run defending LB Smart

119. Will Sheppard WR Vanderbilt - Possession type WR. Good size and good hands.

133. Johnny Dixon CB Penn State - 5th year senior. Plays outside. Could be a good #2 DB

184. Tykee Smith S Georgia - SS candidate. More of a hitter than close cover guy.

215. Carson Beck QB Georgia - BPA at this point. I do really like Beck.

You're kinda missing the point. Make picks, no trades. Notice how the player rankings change over the weeks/months, and the Steelers' draft position.

It's way too easy to make trades in that simulator, anyway. Unrealistic.

My latest:

1.23 Amarius Mims - OT - Georgia 6'7'' 330lbs.
2.54 Sedrick Van Pran - C - Georgia 6'4''310lbs.

Don't see the Steelers trying to fix the OL solely through the draft, but 2 Bulldogs at Tackle and another at the pivot? Interesting.

3.85 T'Vondre Sweat - DT - Texas 6'4'' 346lbs. Is he a wall of meat or a more dynamic threat? Willing to find out here in the 3rd.
4.106 Josh Newton - CB - TCU 5'11'' 195lbs. I've seen enough of him at TCU to trust him in press coverage.
4.119 Cade Stover - TE - Ohio State 6'4'' 251lbs. Steelers' type TE. Can't trust fragile Pat and Washington has a ways to go.
6.181 Carson Steele - RB - UCLA 6'1'' 226lbs. Yes, again. I want another RB in the stable who can play all three downs.
7.215 Tyreem Powell - LB - Rutgers 6'5'' 240lbs. Doubt the hand injury that cost him his season will cause him to fall this far. Guy was having a great season in all aspects at ILB. If those measurables check out, that's just icing on the cake.

Need to look at WR, CB and especially Safety in FA in this scenario.

23 Brock Bowers TE | Georgia B+
54 Brian Thomas Jr. WR | LSU A+
88 Edgerrin Cooper ILB | Texas A&M A
114 Connor Colby IOL | Iowa A
123 Will Shipley RB | Clemson A
201 Jordan Burch DL | Oregon A
242 Graham Mertz QB | Florida B

Steelers now drafting 16th:

1.16 Nate Wiggins - CB - Clemson 6'2'' 185lbs. Another long, athletic CB to pair with JPJ.

2.47 Ja'Tavion Sanders - TE - Texas 6'3'' 235lbs. Not a Steelers-type TE, but neither is Muth or Heyward. Let's add an athletic MOF threat.

3.78 Cole Bishop - S - Utah 6'2'' 205lbs. Well-rounded running mate for Minkah. Can help MOF coverage, over the top, and stick with slot WR/TE.

4.112 Jackson Powers-Johnson - C - Oregon 6'3'' 320lbs. I don't know why he keeps lasting this late, but whatever. Our OL problems start at the pivot and this man can solve that one.

4.117 Payton Wilson - LB - NC State 6'4'' 230lbs. Excellent in coverage. This Feldman Freak also brings the boom. 5th year Senior status is why he's available here.

6.174 Tyreem Powell - LB - Rutgers 6'5'' 240lbs. He's rising in the rankings, so I had to reach here. This position has been a problem and I'll gladly throw two darts at it. Powell was having a great season in all facets of playing LB. Let's hope he's been forgotten.

7.208 Cody Schrader - RB - Missouri 5'9'' 214lbs. He did it in the SEC, let's see if he can do it in the NFL. Improving the RB room is worth a 7th round dart throw.

You can't fix all the problems in one draft. Nobody can. Not even with a bunch of trades.

I focused on finding Cole's replacement, improving the secondary, adding a dynamic receiving threat, and wanted to go into camp with more options at LB.

The FO would need to find an answer at RT in FA, as well as DL depth.

1.16 Brock Browers TE Ga - I have no idea why he was there at 16 but had to pull the trigger.
2.47 Sedrick Van Pran C Ga - Need a new center
3.78 - Kiran Amegadjie OT Yale - a mean RT
4.109 - Tommy Eichenberg ILB OSU - very smart tackling machine.
4.117 - Jordan Burch - Oregon - My Cam replacement
6.175 - Moose Muhammad III WR Texas A&M - meh
7.206 - Jack Sawyer EDGE OSU - Not sure why he was here in the 7th but ...

With the exception of Amegadjie, an all power 5 draft.

Rankings have updated quite a bit on PFN...

Artie Smith as new OC mock:

1.20 Jackson Powers-Johnson - C - Oregon. Absolute bully, but most improtantly, scheme-versatile. Smith bringing more zone-blocking to town.
2.51 Darius Robinson - DE - Mizzou. Can't wait til the 3rd to nab this stud any more.
3.84 Devontez Walker - WR - UNC. Smith brings less use of slot WR. Need depth outside.
4.119 Junior Colson - LB - Michigan. Wanted Payton Wilson here, but dude is moving up quick.
4.120 MJ Devonshire - CB - Pitt. Grabbed him a bit early. Also rising.
6.196 Caedan Wallace - OT - Penn St. Another riser. Upside depth. Hope in this case the Steelers would have addressed RT in FA.
7.237 Isaac Rex - TE - BYU. Smith will use TEs more. We've got an injury prone one, a blocker who needs to get off the snap quicker, and a TE in name only. Rex is starting to turn some heads as a well-rounded type.

Post-Senior/Shrine Bowl mock.

My, how the rankings continue to change....

1.20 Jackson Powers-Johnson - C - Oregon. No write-up. You know the deal by now.
2.51 Edgerrin Cooper - LB - Texas A&M. Hate to condemn the man to injury, but we need new blood here. Good luck, kid.
3.84 Blake Fisher - OT - Notre Dame. Plug-N-Play RT.
4.119 Malik Washington - WR - Virginia. Man among boys at the Shrine Bowl.
4.120 Cam Hart - CB - Notre Dame. Not the first time I've mocked him. Senior Bowl should show you why. FTX-level theft right here.
6.196 Gabe Hall - DT - Baylor. Speaking of FTX-level theft....
7.237 Isaac Rex - TE - BYU. Named to the All-Shrine Bowl West Team for his “outstanding attitude, dedication, and leadership on and off the field.” 1 target, 1 catch in the game. I'll take it, though. Dig his all-around game.
