Donnie Kelly extended, Cherington back 2026

Post by MJG75 » Mon Sep 29, 2025 11:14 pm

PPG reporting that Donnie Kelly has been extended as Buccos manager. Really happy for Donnie, he did a decent job managing a lineup that often featured at least 4 players below or at the Mendoza Line. He kept the team close to .500 until the semi-collapse in September. Tough to keep a group of men motivated when the season was over in the first month. Keeping them interested as long as he did is worthy of praise. I love the guy, local from the area, he has fire and he cares about winning the ballgame right in front of him.

However. He will have to once again try to win with a roster comprised mostly of over the hill bums, and never were suspects. Because our moronic GM, Ben Cherington will also be back for 2026, at least, which has also been announced in the PG. 91 losses in his 6th freaking season. Many of you hate Tomlin, I reserve my hate for this idiotic GM who can't recognize a hitter for his asshole. Makes the worst trades, signs the worst bums. Yeah unfortunately unless he suddenly transforms into a guy who understands baseball, we are likely screwed for 2026. Kelly will have to win in spite of our GM and our owner, as it has also been reported by Noah Hiles that Nutting intends to slash the payroll even deeper than this season's 87 million. Not a lot to be optimistic about here, but I won't give in to despair. We still have Skenes and Reynolds and some great starting pitching, with some AA bats on the way, hopefully! Let's go, Bucs! Gotta win in spite of the owner and GM!

This team should be so easy to fix. I think we have the only two men on the planet running things that could screw this up: Nutting and Cherington. The pitching is there which means 95% of the problem is solved. You just need to get a few competent major league hitters. And one of them, Konnor Griffin, is already in the fold.

At least they kept the hitting coach and fired Oscar Marin, mind-boggling.
