So a college degree is a taxi medallion. Sounds about right.
Well, college degrees have been watered-down to the point where you now often need a graduate degree to advance. A 4-yr degree, for most companies, is nothing more than proof you possess some minimal degree of competence, and some measure of self-discipline. Hell, even an MBA from a top school is more of a signal to future employers than actually teaching you how to run a company.

Even way back when I realized my "liberal arts" education didn't actually teach a whole lot of critical thinking or anything useful, really. It's not that I disagree with the idea, just that the execution is miserable. Most of those classes will charge you $3-$4k to give you little more than you could have gotten yourself just reading the book for $20.

In terms of courses with practical real world applications teaching valued skills, most degrees could easily be boiled down to 1.5-2 years or less.

You should sit in on one of my classes. You have noooooooooo idea. Most of our graduates at my uni can’t explain how their education prepares them for the job they are applying for. To make matters worse, they think gave good grades as opposed to learning how to think will be what impresses.

A nit pick: the liberal arts do teach you how to think well if it’s an actual liberal education. What gets called a liberal arts education almost always really isn’t.

Credit for going to a protest has to stop. If I think critically and decide not going to the protest or protesting on the other side is the way to go, why should I not get equal credit? Students are not political mercenaries.

D also has plenty of billionaires and multimillionaires in gated communities who voted for every horrendous policy that they avoid in their personal lives, especially environmental. Including public education and the effects of immigration. We saw that on Martha's Vineyard.

What's an "election denier"? Or do you mean an election skeptic like Hakeem Jeffreys and Al Franken or Al Gore?

Dan’s right. Very fine equivalent deniers on both sides. The difference now is that only one side attempts and supports coups. But give the Dems time. Catch up soon, prolly.

You sometimes engage in intelligent discourse but then regress to parroting Dem talking points like the obedient soldier that you are. No one on Jan 6 was ever changed with insurrection.

Dan, I like you, but not sure you’d be the best dinner party partner.

I suppose it’s the internet that prevents appropriate tells for successful repartee.

There have in fact been charges of seditious conspiracy for those Oath Keeper buffoons if you prefer that language, as well as keeping Congress from doing its business, aka, certifying the election.

Wwwwhat? How was Trump prevented from getting anything done? Are you saying that Biden is prevented from getting anything done because of the investigations? Investigations happen to all Presidents. Perhaps Trump was unprepared for the office and did not have any policy ready? Perhaps he relied on the Congress to make policy for him and they were unable to do anything because they have a caucus that want to burn the government down?

Do you need reminded that the GOP owned the Congress and White House for 2 years? They could pass anything they wanted but choose to just push through a tax cut and judges. Trump could have done infrastructure. The Dems said they would help him do infrastructure. He could have cut the cost for seniors drug prices. The Dems said they would help with that. Those were campaign promises he made.

There was no "soft coup" other than bad press for Trump and the GOP which cost them on the midterms. It is the same "soft coup" that happens to all Presidents and it is called politics and elections.

Investigations happen to all Presidents.
Yup. It's a cycle.

1. New President elected
2. New President's defeated opponent refuses to concede and claims said President-Elect is compromised by a hostile nation
3. New President's defeated opponent uses compliant DOJ/IC to bolster accusations
4. Compliant DOJ/IC subvert safeguards to continue investigation in attempt to find something to justify their subversion
5. While this is going on, New President's own party's most influential members repeatedly say corrupted DOJ/IC is totally above board and the investigation must be allowed to continue
6. Under the cloud of this investigation, New President's "lack of legitimacy" is cited by his foes as reasons why he can't or shouldn't be allowed to appoint judges (especially to SCOTUS), scrap regulations, sign new bills, or lead the Armed Forces
7. Investigation carries on past the mid-terms
8. New President loses House and Senate
9. New President's agenda deadlocked
10. Investigation quietly goes away
11. On to the next campaign cycle

Happens to every President.

Ebony Pugh, the Director of Public Relations and Media Content for Pittsburgh Public Schools
 "Pew" is right. Holy crap, you just can't make up any crazier horseshit than this
The move ... which will confront “oppressive practices in math instruction with practices that center the wellness of students of color and to provide opportunities for math departments and math teachers to grow their antiracist math praxis collaboratively in pedagogy and instruction.”
I would without hesitation bet my annual salary that the student math scores in Pittsburgh will not rise even 1% (if that isn't a racist construct  ) following the "implementation" of this type of ongoing taxpayer's folly.

FFS, hasn't even ONE of the buffoons involved in this ever heard of Jaime Escalante?? (the real life math teacher at a minority-populated high school brilliantly portrayed by Edward Olmos in the movie Stand and Deliver )

Jamie Escalante was interested in math and making kids' lives better. This wretch is concerned with neither. She just wants white people dead. Ironically the result will primarily be more black people dead. Neighborhoods with the most inculcated white hate have the highest black on black crime.

All this shit originates in graduate programs in education.

There is now a disturbing trend in academic pedagogy studies (Depts of Edu) to put more and more and more emphasis on the teacher to motivate the student. It’s no longer fashionable to be a qualified expert in a field with a set of tools to explain the content clearly. No, one now must take responsibility for student “engagement,” “belonging,” one must practice “differentiated pedagogy.”

This garbage has crept into uni teaching as well.

It is the teacher’s job to explain well.

It is the student’s job to care and bust their fucking ass.

Teachers are being asked now substitute the student's own character needed to learn well with their (teachers) own efforts.

Math is only racist if you think the black community is too stupid to learn math.

Get rid of graduate departments of education.

Woah now. I’ve been trying g to stay out of these threads but there is just so much wrong with this.

I’ll start with the bolded part first. There was no “soft coup”?

Really?

So having a political opponent create bogus information and then use that information to lie to FISA courts in order to spy on a campaign AND THEN use that illegal spying to claim they had hard evidence that Trump was a compromised Russian asset which was then used to launch a special counsel with the purpose of removing him from office wasn’t a “soft coup” and “happens to all presidents”?

Really?

Please cite the many examples you must have of this happening to “all presidents”.

And Trump actually did get some things done.

- moved US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem as he said he would. Something countless other US Presidents said they’d do and said should happen but never did.

- rightfully pulled us out of the awful Paris Climate Accords. Not because the climate is t important but because it was garbage legislation that had the American taxpayer footing the bill for other countries climate stuff. It isn’t my personal responsibility (nor is it yours) to fund climate initiatives around the globe while other countries continue to pollute at will while also not paying their “fair share”.

- was building a border wall while implementing policy that had illegal entry into the country at the lowest level it had been in quite some time.

- urged Europe to decouple from its dependency on Russian oil & gas.

- lowered taxes for Americans. And not just those at the top. The tax cuts with the greatest decline occurred at the lower brackets.

- was nominated for Nobel Prize for work on the Abraham Accords.

- was putting the American tax payer first for a change.

- did not get us into any wars on his watch like many said he would.

- helped America achieve energy independence.

- signed 3 bills to help benefit native Americans.

- signed a law to make cruelty to animals a federal felony

- signed law ending gag orders on Pharmacists that prevented them from sharing money saving info.

- signed bills to help fight sex trafficking

- signed the Save Our Seas Act

- signed executive order that forces health care providers to disclose cost of their services

- signed the “First Step Act” which helps inmates successfully return to society as well as addressing inequities in sentencing that disproportionately harmed black Americans

- poverty rates fell to 17 year lows under Trump

- Poverty rates for blacks & Hispanics reached their lowest levels since the U.S. began collecting such data.

- Committed $124 million to rebuild rural water infrastructure

- Appointed 5 openly gay ambassadors

- Isis lost nearly all its territory under Trump.

- Sanctions against Iran had that country at the breaking point

- imposed sanctions on Venezuela

- made deal with the EU to increase US energy exports to Europe.

- stock market reached record highs and economy was booming. Up until a man made virus was released into the world and power hungry Dems demanded the economy get shut down.

- median household income hit its highest level ever.

Those are but a few things that was accomplished. All while fighting a special counsel based on fabricated info.

Now lemme guess, you like the way things are now vs then right?

Now maybe I’m wrong but the many Dems I deal with in life if asked would say without hesitation oh yes things are certainly better now than under Trump.

Are they though?

- millions upon millions of illegals migrants have invaded the country and drained resources. So much so that sanctuary city Dems are begging for help and now saying we need to finish the border wall.

- inflation at 40 year highs

- US no longer energy independent and begs the Saudis and Venezuela to pump more dirty oil.

- high oil prices have Putin the $$ he needed to invade Ukraine.

- not enforcing sanctions gave Iran money it needed to fund Hamas and Hezbollah.

- we now have two wars going fehen there were none under Trump.

-China is most certainly eyeing Taiwan.

-Fentanyl deaths continue to climb

- crime is climbing so much that major retailers are leaving urban areas in droves.

- antisemitism is rising while members of our own government are supporting the disgusting actions of murderous terrorist.

I could go on.

Now tell me how the world is better now than it was then….

Thats a long list....... and i am sure there is more to add to that.
How different this world is from 3 years ago.....
Is it 78-80% of polls say that the country is heading in the wrong direction?
Who the hell is in that other 20-22%?
Big tech, cushy millionaires, rich politicians, big tech, MSM.....that is not effected by much.
Hello, WTF up.

3 years is a short time.....but,
The difference is blinding............and if its not blinding to some or many.....
Then blind loyalty is certainly the bigger issue.

Its insane what we spend at the grocery store these days, at the pumps, at home improvement store, on home maintenance.
On heating bills, electric bills......
it is so much more expensive to dine out.
to travel.....as tolls have gone up in NJ 30-40% in a few years.
more overnight trips than 3-4 to 7 day trips.
my 401k is still down 15-20% ( devastating for those that want to retire )
I save less and spend more.
I put home repairs off, push them down the road.

I have never dipped into savings more the last 2 years than in the last 20-25 years.
I feel bad for this generation that is trying to start a family, buy a home.

I bought a home in December of 2019. My mortgage rate is 2.85%
My son started looking for homes, the 30 year rate is 8.01 to 8.25%

To borrow $300,000 at 8.2% will cost $811,440 over 30 years.
To borrow $300,000 at 2.85%...4 years ago will cost $448,920 over 30 years.

Hence, it now costs $362,000 more to borrow $300 k than it did in 3-4 years ago.
That's insane.
My son paused his search for a home and now is renting a 2 bedroom apartment for $2,200 a month.
After 12 months..... he will pay $26,000 in rent....rather than towards a mortgage.

None of my reply above is right wing talking points, conspiracy theory, exaggeration, hysteria, etc....
I did not even get into the elimination of women sports, to even removing the word women,
I did not mention the "word police", changing and eliminating words, the "ministry of information"
The ordering of social media to crush and remove opposing opinions and opposing views.....
The school board failures,
Falling grades,

Add in the fact that we are living in the most violent time of our lives, in which violence and crime is running rampant......

The number ONE priority for a government is to keep their people safe, provide a safe and civil environment.
We could not living in a more dangerous United States.

This administration and party has failed miserable at soo many things.
The most destructive and punishing administration of our lives.
And I am afraid that the worst is yet to come.....as the full effects of bad policy, soft on crime, pro-theft, open borders, defund police, hate speech, promoting violence to combat differing opinions, etc. etc. etc.....has yet to fully erupt.

I hope this next election people vote with common sense, for the well being and safety of their future and siblings rather than voting for a party.
Your party has gone rabid. Lost its mind. Its like a drug addiction, its a dependency, its a cult.
Yet 60 million will once again, march to the polls again and vote for Joe Biden......while he babbling nonsensical words, led to and fro a podium, falling over and shitting his pants, while continuing to pad his wallet and set up his family for ever, thru his corrupt money laundering business.
Madness.

Agree that "soft coup" is BS and nothing the Dems did was illegal.

Should be noted, however, that Senate Dems used the filibuster more under Trump than all other Presidents in history....combined. Then, on January 20th, 2021 the fillibuster suddenly became a relic of the Jim Crow era. That was something I had a serious issue with.

That’s an interesting take.

Let me see if I follow…

- It’s ok for a political adversary in a presidential election to create a bogus dossier that is used by DOJ to spy on the opposing campaign. I’m sure it’s illegal to lie to the FISA courts is it not?

- All of that is kept quiet (except for Trump correctly stating his campaign was being spied on- people laughed at the time) during the election process.

- Then when creator of the bogus dossier loses the election they go to plan B where they then repeatedly lie to the American people that they have hard evidence the new president is a Russian asset. Cite the “dossier” they created and launch a special counsel investigation with the intent of removing that president.

All based on fabrication & lies from the DNC.

How exactly is that not a “soft coup”?

And that doesn’t even scratch the surface in terms of the damage they did telling those lies to the voting public all those years.

Major oversight on my part leaving this one out.

The Dems were the party for women until they found a greater (and far more vocal) group to victimize.

And they do that over and over.

They pander to you until another group comes along with a greater potential to exploit.

All of a sudden women’s rights and equality no longer matters.

Some of that is on women, especially high strung leftist women.

Turns out they've just found a different group of men to submit to and get beat up by.

You won't hear a word from them about the girl whose teeth got knocked in field hockey by a biological male or the millions of women in Arab countries raped, abused treated like property.

But they sure put Gary Cooper or Captain Marvel or Indiana Jones in his place.

Tell us, dear Kathleen Kennedy, why the force is female again. Unless the force might lead to social disapproval from the NY Times editorial staff for five minutes.
The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.

Like the progressive cunt NYC public defender that just had to resign because she was caught tearing down posters of missing American children that Hamas has taken hostage?

That is the “left” these days.

Children don’t matter if Hamas is putting them into ovens.

Pathetic.

Yep. Dems straight up lied to the public and used BS opposition research to launch an impeachment inquiry. It was crap and should be called out.

That does not excuse:
- Members of the GOP rioting and attempting to stop the certification of an election.
- Convening fake electors in Michigan
- Pressuring the GA Sec of State to de-certify ballots

What the GOP is did is objectively worse. Even if you disagree with that statement, the majority of voters think otherwise.

Trump is/has destroyed the GOP.

So impeaching a president based on false evidence isn’t as bad as being upset over feeling the election was a sham and acting out as a result?

That seems backwards Pabst.

I’m not absolving the GOP of their actions. However, had there not been a bogus impeachment inquiry then there would have been no Jan 6th.

The Dems lying and cheating in an attempt to remove Trump from office created the mistrust over the election results.

I mean, if they are willing to literally create false “evidence” and tried to impeach e man over it why would they not try to cheat to win the election too?

It fails common sense to believe they would use false evidence to impeach the president but then not cheat as well during the election.

Removing him and then not letting him win again was the #1 goal. They end justifies the means to them.

So why the repubs actions were bad, they were 100% a result of sham impeachment proceedings and bogus special counsel investigations.

And those things are exactly what they were, that being a soft coup.

What else can you call it?

And what if they succeeded?

Their actions are the true threat to democracy. Not Donald Trump.

If we can’t have fair elections and allow those who legitimately win to do their job we will lose the country.

The Dems actions set precedent that is how they are going to operate.

It won’t stop when Donald Trump is gone either.
