Steelers Need to be Disruptors!
The only way the Steelers will sniff another Lombardi in the next 20 years is if we give up on the franchise QB quest like every other organization is on and reinvest that money and energy into research and development for some disruptive force on defense.
The great disruptors take what is already available and arrange it in a new form and function.
Apple took what was already out in the market…touch screen, music player, and computer and just arranged it under glass and called it the iPhone.
Google took what was already out in the wild, web crawlers, and decided to scale it like no other company.
Microsoft took existing computer code and decided to windowize it.
Apple took ARM processors which have always used considerably less power and less computer code and decided to go all in on their optimization and deploy them in not only mobile devices, but gasp PCs….the M1 is the new iPhone and Intel is the next Blackberry…this has yet to play out though! But I digress!
The Steelers only chance at a Lombardi over the next 20 years will to be to deploy defensive weapons in a disrupting way! They need to be a disruptor on defense to swing the pendulum away from offense.
An all out assault on defensive research and development is in order! Find the best coaches. Find the tallest fastest players. Be on a quest for the next 3 Troy Polamalus on defense. Do an all out blitz on the NFL rules committee to tweak some rules that fits what your R&D tells you. Come up with greatest defensive philosophy and unleash it on the NFL!
This is the only chance we have after what I have seen from Mahomes, a grey area, then Allen, Herbert and Burrows. If we stick with the quest for a franchise QB, we will just be in an unwinnable arms race.
On offense just get a middle of the road QB, invest on the line, get great RB stable and get a great running game to flip time of possession in our favor….all the while deploy the greatest defense ever.

Uhhhh, did you watch the games this weekend? Defense is dead as we knew it. The Bills #1 D got carved for 42. Old man Brady, without several of his weapons, put up 27 on the Rams D which looks like it was made by a kid playing Madden in franchise mode.
The rules now heavily favor offense. QBs have evolved from immobile pocket passers like Marino to big freak athletes who can run like Josh Allen and Mahomes. Football isn’t 11 defenders on 10 offensive players anymore. It’s now 11 on 11. The only way to win anything substantial is to keep up with the scoring. 17 of the last 18 AFC Champions were Brady, Ben, Peyton, and Mahomes. Not the #1 defenses, the best QB coupled with the best roster. The next 17 AFC Champs will probably be Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Herbert and maybe the next hotshot QB to come in.
You have to build out the roster, but if you don’t have a top QB it’s pointless. Look at the #1 seed Titans. They won’t ever win shit.

That is why someone needs to come up with a disruptive defensive scheme. A Manhattan project for NFL defense with some sneaky subtle rule changes in the secondary say on offensive WR pick setting. Maybe different body types at different positions. A triangle defense for football. A new way to learn how to practice and play man defense. A new defense technique that will take 5 years for the NFL to outlaw it.
I didn’t say it would be easy…but that is our only path to another ring from what I have witnessed last night. We will be pissing in the wind otherwise trying to come up with a QB to match Mahomes and Allen.
Trying to get an offense that can outscore Mahomes and Allen or come up with a new defense that can stop them; which is the taller task?
Perch is right.
Let me add 2 things.
One we don’t need a HOF qb. Ben did not start as a hof qb. He started as a D2 underclass man with 0 experience. So do not expect impossibly high standards to start or…you never will find a qb. Steelers need a qb that can win games. Start at the start.
Steelers should flip their approach to D. Legion of boom, broncos, giants all had elite secondaries. Chiefs are gonna score. Make it hard at least. Defenses are mostly locked in nickel so they should get elite dbs and build down. Steelers focus on LB is a huge miss in this reality.

Pass rushers are the one thing that can disrupt a great QB. Mahomes in the SB last year looked human because of the pressure. He has since evolved to accept the short passing game when need be. Even with a great D, you still need an offense than can score upper 20’s to beat these guys on a day when your D is great.

I am exaggerating of course…but he is easier to draft than the next Ben, Mahomes or Allen. Does Shazier count as 1? Fitz is about 75%.
I have seen this movie too many times. If we get into a pissing contest with Mahomes we will lose 99 times out of 100 over the next 15 years. Add say a Justin Herbert type to the Steelers and it will go down to 97 out of 100.
Someone has to flip the script on defense in the NFL, that is the only way and the others will involve either blind squirrel gets a nut, injury or retirement.

Kordell was a sign of the future. Look at the major QBs now and it's Kordell with about 50 more pounds of muscle. It was ludicrous how many QB runs I saw this weekend. Some designed, some from broken plays... but most of them for huge chunks of yards.
The Chiefs with their little outlet passes when Mahomes breaks containment... defenders get caught in between as the move from coverage to stopping Mahomes... then the little flip pass. It was beautiful to watch.
You can get a ring that way, but rings will be few and far between.LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 4:35 pmDisagree with zero words in your reply!Steelperch wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 4:22 pmUhhhh, did you watch the games this weekend? In the NFL it was fourteen years between the Ravens and the Seahawks.
In between there was the anomaly that was the 2002 Bucs but every other Super Bowl was won by big plays on offense.
Your freak scheme will get figured out.

Love Ben. Will always. But goddamn am I jealous of incredibly mobile QBs like Mahomes and Allen. Almost unfair.
I look forward to Post Mason era where we hopefully don’t draft a statue but a very mobile QB w a strong arm.

Tennessee is a great candidate to mortgage the future to move up for a QB upgrade in 2023. If they get the right guy, they could win. Well-coached, defense NE style, where the sum of the parts is greater than the individuals. Well,
Mahomes: 26
Allen: 25
BR: 39
So....nothing to apologize for there, Jizz.
Speaking of Mahomes. Dude told BR on the field that he wanted a game jersey from his career if Ben is willing and that Ben went out fighting like a warrior or something to that effect. Ben said they could exchange a jersey.
Then after the Bills win, he sprints across the field to find and hug Allen.
This guy is not only possibly the most all-round physically gifted QB to ever play the game, he also seems to be A+ class all the way.

I agree Defense is dead. In fact the next great defensive mind is the one that determines if you have to play the last 30 seconds of a game on defense it needs to be a street fight. No such thing as a bad defensive holding penalty.

Do they give up draft picks for a top 1-3 QB now? Shot in the dark.
Is this a good spot for Ben.
Heavy run game with the King. RB depth in Foreman and Hillard.
Pretty solid OL.
Nice WR's
Very good defense with pass rushers to disrupt the passing game. ; Simmonds Landry, Dupree.
Draft and FA
WR #2a and a TE on offense.
Use rest of draft for defense. Coverage LBs and DB's

Thoroughly enjoyed this weekend’s games
LOVED them actually.
Basically ordered my son to skip his nightly driveway hoops game to watch the Bills/Chiefs.
Told him Mahomes VS Allen IS the Super Bowl.
Those two STARS did not disappoint.
No dog in the fight, but not even 24 hours later I’m still highly annoyed at Leslie Frazier.
That wasn’t a prevent defense he trotted out there with 13 seconds left, that was a pure fear defense.
If the Bills had their secondary playing any deeper they would’ve been in the parking lot.
Couldn't see a man in the screen Kelce was left so uncovered.
Go down swinging for Gawd sakes. Jam them at the line, make them earn it.
At least a couple more seconds would’ve run off since they blew that opportunity by not squibbing (Unreal level of dumb there)
GUTLESS, HOPELESS, HEARTLESS, DICKLESS, just beyond conservative and ATROCIOUS defensive play calling. The Bills (sadly) got what they deserved.
In short, it’s not the defense that’s dead, it’s the brains behind the defense that’s dead.

Defense is dead due to choices. If a team really focused on it, it would not be dead.
Golden State Warriors known for the 3 pointers in the NBA with Steph Curry a 3 point shooting machine the likes of which nobody in the history of the game has come close to matching, now is a defensive juggernaut!
The best defense in the NBA!
Steve Kerr decided to make a change in the offensive minded league!
They have a 102.5 defensive ranking versus the best ever of 91.3 in the 74-75 season.
They simply made a change!
https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/ ... s.amp.html
The NFL could probably learn something from how Kerr’s philosophy deals with the pick and roll!

Maybe Ben to the Bucs will become the new Cowher to the Chiefs?
The rumor I saw was only the Bears showed interested in Ben last year. They aren't going to embarrass themselves shopping for a new team only to find no takers. If the right opportunity presents itself, I doubt even Ben is 100% certain he'd turn it down.Professor Half Wit wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 9:17 pmIf Ben is not actually done, it’s going to be a huge shock to his agent:

Face it folks. Ben is riding off into the sunset.
Also, if Brady is done that is a giant kick in the nuts, but the spiteful media probably isn't voting Ben in first go, anyway.

I wonder where Stevie Kerr lerned that from... Good defense, strong outside shooting pulling the defense out and opening up the inside for the big men? Excellent pick and roll...LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:32 pmDefense is dead due to choices.

The NFL could probably learn something from how Kerr’s philosophy deals with the pick and roll!
What? The rumor I saw was only the Bears showed interested in Ben last year.
