Re: 2023 SF Board Mock Draft (PICKS ONLY) 3.89 - NYG - JL58 -
The New York Football Giants continue to bolster their beleaguered defensive secondary by selecting
JL (not58) Skinner, Safety, Boise State
We're rolling the dice due to his injury, but we think he's worth it.
NYG 2023 Draft:
1.25 Jordan Addison, WR, USC
2.57 Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi St.
3.88 JL Skinner, S, Boise State

The Raiders must be pretty damn desperate for linebacker if they’re handing Robert Spillane a starting job.

Well, trade downs are wonderful things. You spend the first half of the wait worried that your guys are going to get snatched before it gets back to your turn and then the second half you spend second-guessing your choices and or doing due diligence and adapting. In this case, I simply back around to where I started weeks ago.
This player is fairly well-known to be one of my draft crushes this year, so not a big surprise I'm picking him. He was inarguably one of the biggest stars of this year's senior bowl– a game he wasn't even invited to originally. In his college career, he played a season of nickel DB, played a season of safety, played a season of off-ball LB and played S at one all-star game and LB at the other. It didn't matter where he lined up; he flashed in coverage, hits, ball skills, and most recently in run drills where in one series he blew up a TE on his way to crushing a RB and then ran through an OG to get another TFL and make a second big hit. This after marking and knocking the ball away from an SEC receiving specialst RB in a 1-on-1 designed to give the RB a huge advantage. After that, they were like... you don't need to show anything else; sit over there. Still, no combine invite (stupid the way they make these decisions months before the all-star season) means he got a little lost.
Oh, and did I mention that this prospect is a lifelong and diehard Steelers fan? What's not to like?
I think this year's off-ball LB class is excellent. The Safety class is not, although there are some exciting players with varying flaws. One's injured, one's old, one's Canadian, etc. All I know is, my team doesn't have a starter at the position right now and this experienced player with the dog where his heart should be could play right away at three different spots.
With the 101st pick in the 2023 SteelerFury Board Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select:
Marte Mapu, S/LB, Sacramento State

annnnnnd... we close out the 3rd round of the draft with the last player I have as a "tried and true metrics qualifier" at his position that seems to heavily rely on being an elite athlete. He's an extremely disruptive player, with good anchor and instincts vs the run but also 19.5 TFL & 12 sacks this year. He then proceeded to destroy the competition during the Shrine Bowl. Time for some 1st team MACtion.
With the 102nd pick in the 2023 SteelerFury Board Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select:

After losing Emmanuel Moseley to FA, the 49ers need to add to the depth of their corner room.
At 107, the 49ers (via trade with Patriots) select:
Mekhi Garner, Cornerback, LSU
Garner has an elite build as a cornerback and can take on those receivers that pose a 50/50 threat on the boundaries. He would be great player to snag early in the 4th round!
------
SF picks so far:
80 (via Pitt) Keeanu Benton, DL
107 Mekhi Garner, CB
