The Atlanta Falcons 2023 SF Draft:

1.14 Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU (He'll be WR1AorB with last year's star, Drake London, and also a deep ball specialist)
2.46 Adetomiwa Adebawore, EDGE, Northwestern (A great starting OLB with the size/strength to help at DE, too -- think Lamar Woodley meets DeMarvin Leal)
2.51 Jack Campbell, LB, Iowa (Wearing the green dot, he'll pair nicely with Troy Anderson to make up our starting ILBers, and also quickly become a D leader)
3.75 Jartavius "QUAN" Martin, S/CB, Illinois (Meet our new CB-S1or2, nickel and dime-pkg toy, and ST Ace)
3.84 Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee (He'll get healthy and push Ridder for starting reps before the season is over)
7.224 Wanya Morris, OT, Oklahoma (Meet our new weightroom poster boy/swing-Tackle/hopeful future LT starter)
7.225 Josh Whyle, TE, Cincinnati (He's a steal here and will push for TE2 reps, and in our offense, there's plenty to go around...more like inline-TE1 with Pitts playing the slot so much)

You’re not really into the draft unless you can fill all 53 roster spots with picks. Try harder!

3-24-1978 On This Day in Pro Football History: After 48 hours of wild speculation and rumors, O.J. Simpson was traded to the San Francisco 49ers. A weary eyed Joe Thomas, general manager of the 49ers, made the announcement.

“This is the most explosive trade I’ve ever been involved in. O.J. is more than a football player. To me, he’s the hottest item in sports today even hotter than Muhammad Ali,” Thomas said. Thomas had been involved with other big trades in his career including the Paul Warfield trade to Miami a few years ago.

Trading Simpson had been rumored off and on for about a couple of years. Simpson exclaimed, “Home at last. I’ve always wanted to play close to home but it never seemed to work out until now. I can close my career in my home and hopefully at the same time achieve what I’ve never been a part of - a championship.”

In return from parting with Simpson, the Buffalo Bills received the 49ers 2nd & 3rd round selections in the 1978 NFL draft, 1st & 4th round picks in 1979 and the 2nd round selection in 1980. The Bills new head coach Chuck Knox was instrumental in the trade. “It came down to doing what we felt best for the long-range development of the Bills into a challenging team,” Knox said.

Despite having surgery on his left knee to remove torn cartilage, Simpson passed his physical which allowed the trade to be announced. Simpson was the highest paid running back in the NFL having signed a 3 year contract back in 1976 which paid Simpson $733,000 a year. The contract had been a stumbling block for trading Simpson in the past.

Bills owner Ralph Wilson was emotional over trading his star player. “O.J. has been first of all a friend. We laughed together in good times and cried when things went poorly. He made a contribution to football and the city of Buffalo that may never be matched,” Wilson said.

Lions final haul:

1. Tyree Wilson
1. Jaxon Smith Njigba
2. Karl Brooks
2. Luke Musgrave
3. Devon Achane
5. Corey Trice Jr.
5. Jake Witt
6. Dorian Thompson Robinson

Over-drafted Brooks, but I really like him. I get a bit of a Javon Hargrave vibe from him. Always need some MACtion in my draft.

Well done everyone. This place is the best draft resource out there in my opinion.

Wil thanks for running it, much appreciated.

Final New York Football Giants draft haul:

1.25 Jordan Addison, WR, USC
2.57 Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State
3.89 JL Skinner, S, Boise State
4.128 Jalen Redmond, EDGE, Oklahoma
5.160 DeWayne McBride, RB, UAB
5.172 Jarrett Patterson, C, Notre Dame
6.209 Nick Broeker, G, Ole Miss
7.240 Cam Jones, LB, Indiana
7.243 Braeden Daniels, OT, Utah
7.254 Brayden Willis, TE, Oklahoma

Big Blue drafting for need mostly trying to bolster the roster after making the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Since we've made the commitment to Daniel Jones behind center, we've drafted weapons for him in Jordan Addison and DeWayne McBride, and attempted to add depth to his protection with three of our last four picks on offensive line. We have a good feeling that Jarrett Patterson will fill the void left with Nick Gates' departure to Washington. Last year's poor defensive secondary gets bolstered with Emmanuel Forbes and JL Skinner. Forbes will need to add some bulk so we'll be taking him to Keen's Steakhouse pretty regularly until Training Camp, but we really like his game. We're hoping and praying for JL Skinner to heal up quickly from a torn pectoral a month ago during pre-draft training. Even if he is not available to us in 2023, we think he's worth the pick to help in 2024. Our dark horse pick is Jalen Redmond at EDGE who displayed excellent quickness and explosiveness during the combine. All in all, we think many in this haul will help the Giants playoff chances in 2023.

Thanks again to B2B and everyone who participated in a great and very quick Steelerfury mock draft!

Patriots 2023 Draft:

1.8 Paris Johnson, OT, Ohio St
3.99 Zack Kuntz, TE, ODU
4.117 Riley Moss, CB, Iowa
4.135 Israel Abanikanda, RB, Pitt
6.187 Dante Stills, DL, WVU
6.210 Jack Colletto, ATH, Oregon St
7.245 Ryan Greenhagen, LB, Fordham

*Sent 3rd/4th/5th/6th to IND for All-Pro Guard Quenton Nelson

----

My 11 picks became 7 picks + an All-Pro Guard. Shored up the OL (and created enviable depth), brought great size/athleticism to an unsettled TE group, a 3rd/4th boundary corner with a real nose for the ball, a RB that does everything you want and then some, a rotational DL with a knack for penetrating, a Swiss Army Knife, and an LB who makes you want to run through a wall when you watch him play. Not a bad couple days' work.

The final (mock) draft for San Francisco, after not having selections before the 3rd round:

80 (via PIT) Keeanu Benton, DL
107 (via NE) Mekhi Garner, CB
145 (via CAR) Olu Oluwatimi, C
164 Dee Winters, LB
173 Carter Warren, OT
184 (via NE) Dontay Demus Jr., WR
222 Jake Moody, K
247 Griffin Hebert, TE
255 Brandon Hill, DB
Also obtained Kendrick Green as part of the pick for 3.80.

The Niners needed to get some depth in the TE room this draft, and got the second-most athletic TE in the draft (next to Kuntz). Adding depth to the D-line was essential to staying cost-effective in the future, so Benton was a great choice to move up from picks 100&101. They added Gipson to the safety room in FA, but the backfield was still light, so drafting Garner and Hill were great additions to the lineup. After losing Robbie Gould to FA, they brought on a rookie to help - but will probably still bring in competition before camp starts. Winters comes in as a possible contender for Greenlaw’s position when his contract expires in 2024. Warren comes in to help as depth, but has the potential of f taking over at RT after losing McGlinchey. Olu provides further depth on the line. Demus keeps the WR room gaining youth, speed, height, and flexibility with all the injuries.

UDFA moves could include bringing in another QB with Purdy recovering from elbow surgery, and Lance hasn’t played even half a season yet. And maybe adding another RB.
The God who made the universe knows me by my name, so it's a good day ~ Forrest Frank

Denver Broncos GM (2026)
Jaylen Waddle, WR (via Trade)
Jonah Coleman, RB
Max Klare, TE
Genesis Smith, SAF
Bryce Boettcher, ILB
Brian Parker II, OL

Denver Broncos Final Tally:

*3.65 Tyjae Spears, RB, Tulane
3.67 Cedric Tillman, WR, Tennessee
3.68 B.J. Ojulari, EDGE, LSU
**4.129 Trey Palmer, WR, Nebraska
5.139 Mike Morris, DL, Michigan
*5.161 Jon Gaines II, OL, UCLA
***6.183 Stetson Bennett, QB, Georgia
***6.198 Ryan Hayes, OL, Michigan
**7.244 Matt Landers, WR, Arkansas

* DEN sends WR Courtland Sutton & 6.194 to HOU; HOU sends 3.65, 5.161, and ILB Blake Cashman to DEN
** DEN sends 4.108 to DAL; DAL sends 4.129, 5.169, and 7.244 to DEN
*** DEN sends 5.169 to DET; DET sends 6.183, and 6.198 to DEN

Started the draft with 5 picks, ended with 9. Not bad for a draft without R1/2 picks, Pseudo-Paton… Not bad at all…

Priority Broncos UDFA Targets:
Jaxson Kirkland, OL, Washington
Quindell Johnson, S, Memphis
Jordan McFadden, OL, Clemson
Payne Durham, TE, Purdue
Noah Gindorff, TE, North Dakota State
Ben VanSumeren, LB, Michigan State
Kadeem Telfort, OT, UAB
Joey Fisher, OT, Shepherd
Tanner McCalister, S, Ohio State
Brett Neilon, C, USC

Thanks for bringing me into the fray - it was awesome doing mock draft battle alongside y'all!

Texans final draft

2. Anthony Richardson
12. Nolan Smith
33. John Micahel Schmitz
73. Bryce Ford-Wheaton
104. Hunter Luepke
179. Zaire Barnes
188. Sidy Sow
195. Jay Ward
201. Nehemiah Shelton
203. DJ Coleman
259. Scott Matlock

3.65, 5.161, Blake Cashman for Courtland Sutton and 6.195

Really injected talent into the offense with Richardson. Pony sets with Pierce, Richardson, and Luepke would be so much fun. Nolan Smith gives some much-needed athleticism to the DL unit. Grabbed the best C in the draft to anchor the middle which fills out the Texans OL (which is actually looking pretty good). Basically traded a third and a depth LB + pick swap for a perfect WR for Richardson in Sutton. Went BPA with Bryce Ford-Wheaton which gives the Texans two long athletic WRs with a large catch radius. Zaire Barnes is a nice developmental LB with speed, size, and instincts to start next year after the Denzel Perryman rental is over. Sidy Sow might be better than Kenyon Green but in the meantime will be the best swing G in the league. Jay Ward can start day 1 and gives the Texans 3 safeties who can play in the slot just as well as one high and gives them a ton of flexibility on the back end with Pitre and Jay and Jimmie Ward. Nehemiah Shelton is super scheme versatile is great depth with the ability to take over when Steven Nelson's time is over. DJ Coleman is a long athletic player who will back up Jerry Hughs for now but is so talented it will be tough to keep him off the field for long. Scott Matlock can play from the 5T - 0T and can be a versatile backup. Really happy with this draft. Mostly will be dependent on Richardson panning out but I filled all the other needs. Got younger in the most important position groups (Edge, OL, DBs) and if Richardson pans out these guys will need to be good because the rookie window is huge. Had a great time again this year!

Won't tell you guys my UDFAs because I don't want anybody stealing them in draft-a-team ;)

Thank you all for a super efficient and swift SF Board Mock! 7 days is wild, considering that back in the day we'd go three weeks!

It can it was too short to get your full enjoyment out of it, you're all invited to the 4th annual Draft-A-Team, which will start in roughly a week... depends on how soon we can get enough GMs to participate.

For those of you who might be new here, the draft-a-team is a 24-round draft where roughly 12-13 GMs build an entire team exclusively from this year's draft eligibles. You draft a player to fill all positions and it an incredible way to learn about not just the draft prospects in the top 100, but down through the future UDFAs and even XFL/UDFA/CFL players in the future. (Trust me, the XFL is a lot more fun when you're familiar wirth most of the players!).

If you want in on draft-a-team, text or message me and I will send out an announcement ASAP.

P.S.: as in previous years, the draft will be based on a google spreadsheet, where you can write in your own pick name and the time you've picked. Next player has to pick within the time limit based on the time of the previous pick and so on.

Here'a a link to the previous years' results:

You funny. I'm going to go Joe Pesci on you. "Do I amuse you?"

"Only" 59. Still, I'm a genetic wonder. Even the most hardened, hardcore street ball, trash talking Brooklyn tough guys I play with will come off the field with me saying, "You're a freak. You shouldn't be able to be doing what you're doing."

Hell, I had 3 TDs yesterday and we only had 9 as a team. I also had a pick 6 called back because no one could believe that I caught it off my shoe.

Hell, I had 3 TDs yesterday and we only had 9 as a team. I also had a pick 6 called back because no one could believe that I caught it off my shoe.
Too bad about the pick 6.
I was envisioning a young Rod Woodson type play by you.

Don't ask me to dance and the shooting me in the leg...been there done that. Ditto with knives.

Anyway, thanks a bunch for doing this exercise and making it smooth and so enjoyable. Best thing that happens on this board.

I went into this draft with nary any prep(and it showed) but I learned a ton about this draft class the past two weeks. If life were not so insane for me at this point I would do the draft a squad exercise.
Already looking forward to the 2024 Steelerfury mock run!

Thanks again Wil.

Thanks frac

And the draft is now so fast and efficient that I wonder if it's become so fast that we can't enjoy it enough lol

I know I can't enjoy it as much because I'm the only one who can text prompt everyone and almost the only who to keep the picks updated. It's so fast now that I struggle to get anything--work or personal-- done during the shenanigans.

and there is nothing even remotely Rod Woodson-ish about my play these days or any days.

Imagine a slow-footed stiff TE playing defense because of his "experience". Kind of like that. IC would have loved me.

Fake Philadelphia Eagles Fake 2023 Draft

1a) Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois: Slay is back, but only on a one-year, and he's getting longer in the tooth by the season. Witherspoon is talented, versatile and could be a fixture for a long time. In reality, there's a pretty good chance this pick is traded, as they really like always having multiple 1s in their back pocket in Philly, and there are QB-needy teams who might want to hop up here, but I like the player and value.

1b) Brian Branch, DB, Bama: Versatility is key again here in a secondary that can use an infusion of talent at safety as well as CB. Let's face it, the secondary got torched in the 2nd half of the SB, so if we're still all in on this window in Philly, shoring up the defense is a big key to success with very few offensive losses to make up for.

2) Isaiah Foskey, EDGE, ND: No lie, I was hoping Kancey would fall to this spot to duplicate some of the interior rush we're going to miss with Gravedigger headed to the Bay Area in FA, but more edge depth in a scheme that emphasizes rotation and fresh legs can't be a bad thing when you're looking at the potential QBs you'd have to beat coming out of the AFC in a potential return to the SB (and yes, Philly fan is openly thinking like this, even if the team isn't).

3) Andrew Vorhees, G, USC: Super-solid technician with some considerable nasty. Could likely step in and start in case of an injury out of the box, but depth needed replenished here after losing a starter via FA (and having a 2nd rounder in Jergens waiting to step right in). Again, a rotational approach combined with quality depth is what gives this team such an advantage in the trenches, gotta keep that pipeline functioning.

...and then there was a long interlude...

7a) Jake Bobo, WR/TE, UCLA: I'm looking at this pick as a backup/developmental receiving TE prospect as much as a big WR, where the depth behind Pro Bowler Goedert isn't really anything to write home about. There's probably some immediate upside potential as a RZ threat.

7b) Jadakis Bonds, WR, Hampton University: Potential pick here in the big slot role, along with some versatility. Good not great speed, but looks better in pads than timed speed would suggest. Man, can dish out a little punishment once the ball is in his hands, too. Philly fan will like this kid, and he fits well with the team ethic.

Thanks again, as always to B2B especially, and all the participants (especially the out of town guests, who were awesome this year!) for making this a ton of fun and an educational experience, in addition to the well-oiled machine it has become. Cheers!
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

Honestly, doling out the teams to make everyone happy is the hardest part of the job these days!

Everyone did a great job keeping it moving this year. Much appreciated.
