For context, Burrow totaled 67 passing yards on 33 dropbacks today (much against prevent defense), and Watson wasn’t much better. Pickett was playing the top D in the league.

Pickett was terrible. But not really worth much overreaction.
Burrow sat all preseason and is coming off injury. He looked like ass week 1 last year too. He also has shown he’s a top 2 QB in the league over the past few years. I can certainly accept a clunker from a HOF QB like Ben or stud like Burrow once a season. Pickett has not shown he can lead the Steelers offense to multiple scores in a game yet. He’s fucking 25 years old.

KP8 final pre-season stat line:

13-15
86.6%
199 yards
13.26 YPA
2 TD
0 Int
158.3 QB Rating
5 drives, 5 touchdowns

Don’t give a damn if it’s pre-season, pop warner ball, pick up in the park, that’s getting shit done.
Imagine how many more people on this board would be praising him if they'd picked him in their mock drafts...
Sadly, it seems like this has become what this board is all about

I'm no draftnik. I'm just getting tired of the massive, unjustified KP over-hype and kool-aid drinking. I don't see any basis for it- KP had a few decent games against bad teams to end the season last year, looked pretty good against back-ups in preaseason games, and had a few puff pieces in the Pittsburgh media. Big deal. Nevertheless, half the fanbase is treating him like the combo of Tom Brady and Pat Mahomes.

I think today is a good reality check. IMO, KP's ceiling is a Tannehill / Jimmy G. / Kirk Cousins type who is good enough to maintain NHALS but not a championship-level QB. The KP hype is totally out of line from what I believe we can reasonably expect from him. I think it's due to KP being from Pitt - I doubt we'd see the same hysteria if KP went to Boise State or some other school with no connection to the 'burgh. KP was the first QB taken in 2022, but he was outplayed by at least three others from that draft today- Purdy, Howell, and Ridder. Hopefully he can show that today was a fluke, but, until he does, I think we should ratchet back the hype a few notches.

Kenny Pickett TD / INT ratio:

Sophomore year: 12-6 in 14 games
Junior year: 13-9 in 12 games
Senior year: 13-9 in 9 games
Rookie pro season: 7-9 in 12 games
2nd year pro: 1-2 in 1 game

46 TD - 35 INT in 48 games…. That’s the guy we’re riding our hopes on, a guy who throws less than 1 TD per game…. A guy who literally since high school has been a productive QB only once, when he was a 23 year old 5th year starter in the ACC. Good luck with that.

X10,000. All of it. The absolute worse he could be is Baker Mayfield, a.k.a "franchise killer" [which the Browns shockingly avoided that trap].

Not to overreact to Wk1 against the #1 'D', but Pickett has shown me very little to believe he can be an elite QB, while also showing me enough to think he'll be hard to give-up on.

Purdy was facing a top defense, too, and he looked poised and comfortable while carving them up. I said before there was so much disdain for that QB class it was unlikely to produce even 1, much less 2, great QB's.

And 100% agree there wouldn't be this hype, at all, for Pickett if he hadn't played here in college.

Purdy, Howell, and Ridder all won today. All scored over 20 points. And combined for just 1 pick between the three of them. They probably all have superior offensive talent to the Steelers though.

Why did we have zero run game today? Maybe Kenny made them look as bad as they are?
I hope you kept the receipt for that gold jacket
You and Perch are hard asses on Pickett, but you both do not honestly think he is as bad as he was today.

Pickett is an accurate passer and something happened today that wrecked all the timing and exacerbated his outlier poor accuracy today….and it is most likely:

1.) Oline on skates
a. Too many arms in the air close in because the o-line is way too passive and gave up too much ground at the snap.
b. The initial shift in the line of scrimmage I would guess is the problem….I just kept seeing the RBs getting in KPs throwing halo in the first half and then obviously zero consistency in the running game.
2.) No run game see bullet 1 and then the quick scores didn’t help.
3.) Running backs in KP’s throwing halo. See bullet 1.
4.) Guessing WRs getting manhandled on their routes which is on the coaching to not get that incorporated into practice and also on the coaching for not screaming at the refs.

Absolutely no violence today! I thought we had something when McCaffery got blown up on the 3rd and 1….and then it all went down hill. Kenny and the Steelers will recover……I hope!

Uh, as bad as the other problems are, if Kenny P can’t be great against great teams, we’re possibly more fucked than we would be with almost any other issue.
Kenny Pickett most certainly wasn't great against a great team.

Wanna know who else was arguably worse than Pickett?

The entire defense, other than TJ Watt.

The entire offensive line.

KP threw too many bad passes to his receivers, but they weren't good by any means either

The absolute worst of everyone associated with the Steelers?

Mike Tomlin and Matt Canada.

They showed me early in the game they weren't playing to attack the 49ers.

Tomlin and Canada were trying to make this a 6-3 game.

You'll see. Maybe KP will suck so bad he'll be out after this season.

You know who won't be out when the Steelers continue to suck?

3 guesses.

You can't reason with these 2 gunts.

Kodiak was shitting himself when Kenny was playing great in the preseason. Didn't know whether to shit or wind his watch but at least he posted.

Perch hid under his bed in the fetal position.

Only showed up when shit was going wrong today against one helluva loaded team (the kind of team Ben Roethlisberger was drafted into).

You sure sounded different a few weeks ago…..while Perch was hiding under his bed, twatwaffle.

It’s hilarious. You guys would much rather see Pickett fail and the Steelers lose than Pickett playing well, which he will, and the Steelers win.

Gonna be a fun year for sure!!

Oh, if "Big Ken" flames out, I'm sure you'll be hammering the next guy for not being Ben Roethlisberger.

Oh wait, Brock Purdy who was drafted into the same situation as Ben and is playing in a similar manner.

...and if Purdy continues playing the way he is, on this LOADED TEAM AT EVERY POSITION ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL then Purdy could also win a Super Bowl in his second year, just like Ben.

Good lord would you blow your load if that happens!

It isn't Kenny, it's anybody that followed Ben Roethlisberger.

Anybody.

This was one game where we were beaten in every possible phase.

Christ, did you see their punter compared to ours?

Harvin played like a middle schooler in comparison.

This was week 1. 16 weeks to go. If we beat Cleveland now, the usual suspects will shut the fuck up until Pickett plays badly again, then they will rejoice.

But they're Steeler fans........they want what's best for the team, I'm sure.

I’ve never hammered Big Kenneth for anything other than bad QB play. I didn’t like the pick because he’s a very limited QB with four years of bad tape, followed by one huge year when he was 23 playing against 19 year olds. I saw damn near every start he had at Pitt, this is what he is. We spent a 1st round pick on him, so I hope he works out. Evidence is showing he likely won’t.

But just imagine being such a miserable prick that you had to shit on every throw of the final season of our HOF QBs career then followed that up by making excuses for this dud. Just imagine…

Big Kenneth……lol

It’s not REALLY about Ben vs Ken IMO

Imo it’s much more about a franchise that often seems to base longterm contracts on things other than 100% merit

And then of course there is this board….lol….some of you just get completely off the rails and won’t ever admit you might be wrong

You didn't like the pick and I didn't like Ben hanging on when he was clearly done. Christ the Steelers made Roethlisberger take a pay cut. That should have been the hint that it was time to hang them up, but Ben came back. He had some moments but the dude was washed. You don't want to hear that. I couldn't give a flying fuck. You believe I hate Roethlisberger. I also couldn't give a flying fuck what you believe. I don't know you nor will I ever know you. You're a name online. A name online that would hate any QB the Steelers played (who are rebuilding at a bunch of positions, with Pickett being a part of that. Pickett didn't walk into the loaded team situation that Ben Roethlisberger did. Few do, except maybe a guy like Brock Purdy? Hmmm.....) that wasn't named Ben Roethlisberger.

If Kenny has a big game next week and we beat the Browns, you won't be anywhere near this site.

Can't wait for the next game!

The one thing I think I know is this: If Kenny isn't MVP this year, it's probably because DJ sucks.

Oh, I think DJ will be gone for a loooooong time now with the hammy. Probably hurt himself initially slipping when he tried to jump. That went well.

If Kenny has a big game next week and we beat the Browns, you won't be anywhere near this site.
Damnit, looks like I’ll have to post here every week for a LOONG time. Been posting on these sites since 1999 and this guy thinks I hide.

I’m sure you just had family obligations or something until the whole team unraveled today.

Awww, he really wanted to pound his chest over some meaningless preseason drives. Sorry I don’t sign in during the off-season. Go right ahead, I’m here to listen. How about we do a bet on Pickett, SteelerFury retirement match. If he finishes top 15 in TD passes or QB rating I’ll delete my account. If he doesn’t, you do.

I couldn’t care less if Pickett finishes top 15 in TD passes. An offense isn’t just one player. Ben played in a LOADED offense with a great defense early in his career and was no TD throwing machine. He was a game manager who did a great job performing his role.

Kenny has almost none of what Ben walked into.

It’s hilarious how you blame today entirely on Kenny Pickett. It’s pure comedy and that’s why I know you’re still butthurt Ben isn’t under center and he isn’t coming back.

Any QB that replaced your beloved Ben would be suffering your wrath. It’s kinda sweet actually.
