Gotta be, for me, either Zach Frazier or Roman Wilson.
2 biggest needs outside of corner so I guess it depends on who will be available.
I wouldn't be surprised if Frazier were still on the board but Wilson was gone.

I would guess WR but that was a big run on OT and WR at the end of the 1st round. Center is a good guess as is CB

I ‘m hoping they grab one of the C prospects, jpj or Frazier!
I think they trade for Aiyuk though.

If Aiyuk is treaded, I doubt it's to the Steelers.
Steelers maybe grab Coleman because he's the best blocking WR in this draft.

The run on WRs is pretty concerning.
What I don't want to see is the Steelers draft a WR that is virtually similar to what we already have on the roster. So, we pick 19th in round 2, pick 51, that is 18 players that will be off the board.
I can see 5 WRs at least that go in that span. If all we have left is the likes of a Ja'Lynn Polk, Jalen McMillian, Brendan Rice, Devonte Walker or a Javon Baker, well, that sucks and we should spend that 2nd round pick elsewhere. The value is not there to take one of those WRs.
Maybe the Steelers give up that 4th round pick and send it to Denver for Courtland Sutton. We would have to pick up the last 2 years of his current contract, 2 years, $27.5 million, but I read where $2 million of his 2024 salary was guaranteed, maybe Denver already paid that $2 million or can be encouraged to pick that up in the trade?? Maybe it is really a $25.5 million contract when all is said and done in terms of a trade.
The need for a WR that can play at a high level is crucial, and Sutton did connect with Wilson for 10 TDs last season. He may want a new contract but he is under contract for two years and isn't a free agent until 2026, which at that time the Steelers can just move on or they can rework his contract, add a year, lower his cap hit, etc. This is really not all that different from us picking up Allen Robinson in trade from the Rams last season. I do think Sutton has more in the tank than Robinson and he might be a good stop gap until the next draft.
It might be preferable to do it this way, trade for Sutton, and then use the 2nd and 3rd on defense (CB, DT) and spend the other 3rd round pick on a center.
CB in round 2, or add a DT in round 2, or hell here is a thought, what if one of the top ILBs is sitting there at 51?? Yes, we have Queen, but what if Holcomb isn't ready to start the season? Roberts played fine last year but had trouble staying healthy too. Imagine pairing Queen with Colson or Cooper and having your ILB duo set for the next few years??
What if a Mike Sainristil or Max Melton is still there at 51?? What if Braden Fiske, Kris Jenkins or Maason Smith are there at 51??
I don't want the Steelers to nab a 3rd tier WR when they can grab a true playmaker, a rookie starter, someone who can play heavily in the rotation on defense.

I like Baker but I doubt Artie Smith has much use for him.
I like Renardo Green, think he could get PT opposite Porter Jr.
They do need a Center, a day one starter because there is nothing in free agency.
Lots of holes for this team, who touts themselves as a legit SB contender this season.
Has to be the best center they have rated other than Barton obviously even if they have to move up, although I hate the idea of losing picks. That's the only thing that makes sense with what they intend to do on offense. Running the 90's style offense the fraud in charge wants doesn't make sense with a less than dominant center imo.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Center hopefully. If we're going back to ground and pound I want us to commit fully to it with a shit kicking offensive line.

Pick 51 a long ways off to guess on a player.
Hopefully teams continue to reach to fill holes.
Quality players tumble down the board.
Fautanu was a GIFT in round 1
Now the Khan-artist can get aggressive.
Move up for a falling player.
Maybe it is one of the centers.
Maybe I’ll get my wish and they nab my guy Cooper Dejean or an impact defender.
Could just sit on their hands and take BPA, but that doesn’t appear to be Khan’s M.O.
WR a HUGE need.
After drafting Ricky Pearsall, it would seem likely the 9ers are in fact looking to move Aiyuk or even Deebo Samuel.
If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn’t be more surprised if the Steelers traded for Aiyuk.
Yep
Pick 51 for Aiyuk is grand larceny.
LOVE the player.
HATE the money.
Not nearly the player as Aiyuk, but I’ll go ahead and agree Sutton for a day 3 pick, the more likely/cost effective scenario.
Anyway, tonight should be fun.
Go get ‘em Omar!

What qualifies as a dominant center because I don't see that with Frazier or JPJ. They look too stiff to me and they don't seem to my eye to have the movement skills to pull off what Smith wants in a center.RemoAZ wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2024 12:15 pmHas to be the best center they have rated other than Barton obviously even if they have to move up, although I hate the idea of losing picks. I have watched some past games of Atlanta and they had their center getting deeper down the field than anything I saw Cole or Green do the past couple years. That Atlanta/Pittsburgh game in 2022, their center Drew Dalman he was doing very well at getting into the second level and picking off Steeler defenders. I saw him make contact with Minkah a few times and roughed him up.
The scouting report on Dalman was that he was a much better run blocker, at pulling and leading sweeps, he was not a what I call a 'phone booth' type of center.
Yeah, I watch highlights and games of Frazier and JPJ and there are plenty of moments where they are looking great in a phone booth, but they look slow and lumbering in doing anything other than that.
Hunter Nourzad should be the target in round 3. More mobile, more complete toolset and we would give up less to move up in round 3 to get him.
What i don’t want to see is us drafting a worse player because we are concerned with how the better player ‘fits’, whether that means not taking a small WR because we want big ones, or not taking a big because that’s what we already have, or not taking a slot because we plan to run a stupid scheme.
I have to believe it would take more than just our second rounder to land Aiyuk.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2024 12:35 pmPick 51 a long ways off to guess on a player.

Probably the second rounder and one of our 3rds might do the trick or something like this year's and next year's second rounders might work.
I think if all San Fran wanted for Aiyuk was a second rounder, he'd have been a Steeler a month ago.

It would be a significant improvement to have a center who can consistently snap the ball to the QB. I think mobility is overrated for a C. Being able to pull is a nice plus, but fundamentally you need someone who can handle the DT in front of him. I think C is the biggest need on the team right now and they should consider moving up to get a stud.Scunge wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2024 12:48 pmWhat qualifies as a dominant center because I don't see that with Frazier or JPJ. I think there are great smaller WRs that fit Smith's offense. People that want to consider a trade for Deebo Samuels or draft Malachi Corely should watch some film of Ainias Smith. That guy has awesome film, both as a receiver, punt returner and kick returner. I would take him in round 4 easily. Maybe Ainias and Jermain Burton have character concerns but I think they have as much talent as anybody left on the board and we can probably get them in round 3 or 4. Why overdraft a so-so WR in round 2 when there are better values at DT, at slot CB, at ILB?Mick wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2024 1:01 pmWhat i don’t want to see is us drafting a worse player because we are concerned with how the better player ‘fits’, whether that means not taking a small WR because we want big ones, or not taking a big because that’s what we already have, or not taking a slot because we plan to run a stupid scheme.

I think our RT and TE rookies from last year would love it too.
Fautanu, Seumalo, CVP, Daniels, Broderick would be a pretty nice line.
Spencer Anderson, DM Jr and Herbig as depth.
CVP make it to the end of the third round?.
Daniel Jerimiah has JPJ at 34 and Frazier at 37
Brandon Fiske - 38
Keon Coleman - 42
Malachi Corley -44
Max Melton -46
Kris Jenkins -48
Roman Wilson - 58
Orhorhoro - 62
Maason Smith - 64
Kamari Lassiter - 69
Sedrick Van Pran-Granger - 102 - SVPG (sporting news has him at 97)
Hunter Nourzad - 110 - Scunges guy. ( " " has him at 111 )
Both these guys still on the board at 3.98?
Seems like they will both be there at 3.84
WR, C.......should be 2 of the next 3 picks
Next 4 picks, INPO.........WR, C, DL, CB..........ILB if talent drops

the two centers that we are looking at.
JPJ - 6'-3" - 328 - 32 1/4" arms 9 7/8" hands
ZF - 6'-3" - 313 - 32 1/4" arms 10 7/88" hands
SVP 6'-4" - 298 - 31 3/8" arms 9 1/2" hands 5.2 - 40.
HN 6'-3" - 317 - 33 1/8" arms 10 3/4" hands ....he run the 40?
Anybody have other combine numbers on these two.
SVP looks heavier than listed 298, looks like more than half his weigh is from the waste down......anchor.
Assume he will put on NFL muscle from the waist up.
Hunter 2" longer arms and huge hands....
any other centers in these next 50-70 or so picks?

The garden gnome WR from Georgia.
I think McConkey will go pretty quick once the second round gets underway.
Being that their aren't many quality larger wide receivers left, if the Steelers don't shock everybody and pull off a trade for Brandon Aiyuk, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them pull off a trade to move up in the second round for a Keon Coleman type.
Not sure who at the WR position might be there at 51 that fits what Arthur Smith likes to do.

Going way down to 7th or maybe UDFA, still have guys like Bryan Hudson, who has pretty good length, excellent agility times, was the best blocker overall in a power 5 conference, and isn’t particularly old (2001 birthday, same as SVP and frazier). ACC for all its faults was pretty loaded at DT this season too, with about 1/3 of legit draft IDL prospects being ACC guys this year.

The more I think about it, the more I think they should use some cap room to sign the Miami Center (Connor Williams), and resign Cole to play until Williams is ready to play. Then draft WR in round 2, and DL and slot CB in round 3. Take a development center in round 4.
How bout we, you know, devise a scheme that fits the WRs we have (and the one we’ll add) rather than further paint ourselves into a corner looking only for Artie’s preferred scheme-fit?
He won’t be available, but McConkey’s calling card is getting the fuck open. If you can’t work with that, you’re in the wrong business.
