Yes. You can’t onside kick until the 4th quarter, and obviously, you have to declare that you are going to do it.
They continue to ruin this once great game, more and more each season.

onside kicks are only allowed in the fourth quarter of games and if the team doing it is losing. The losing team additionally must declare it is attempting the onside kick, thus eliminating the surprise factor prior to the rule change

As a result the return team can have all 11 players in the recovery zone so almost no chance of getting one unless it ricochets or is dropped.

KC this is all normal shit the last 5 years. Why deflect blame from the QB. It doesn’t matter. Nothing will move towards excellence until a new head coach.

If not penalties, then an injury, then drops, then poor route running, then poor QB play…it is just chuck-a-luck for the excuse as to why the offense always underwhelms!
